Summary: Film Noir at its best!!
Review: The story revolves around a mobster named Caesar ( Joe Pantoliano), his mistress Violet (Jennifer Tilly), and a tough female ex con named Corky ( Gina Gershon). Corky moves into the same building as Caesar and Violet. The two women eventually become attracted to each other and then become lovers. They devise a flawless plan to steal 2 million dollars of the mob's money, and leave the blame on Caesar.

"Bound" is an outstanding caper film that features tons of twists, turns, and close calls. The overall suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is also an intelliegent film that is very well laid out. The film flows brilliantly and leaves no loose ends. The script is outstanding and really provides for a lot of enjoyable dialogue from the actors. The performances given by Pantoliano, Tilly, and Gershon are all incredible, and I gurantee that you will like them all. Watching the two women work together in and out of the bedroom, really provides for a film that brings the crime genre to a whole new level. The DVD offers the unrated version of the film, as well as commentary from the directors (Wachowski Brothers) , and the stars ( Pantoliano, Tilly, and Gershon). It is highly affordable as well. The film itself, and the nice DVD make "Bound" a must own for any DVD collection.

Final Grade : A+

Summary: Good film by the directors of the Matrix
Review: I have to be honest. The only reason I bought the film was because of the steamy love scene between Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. But after watching the entire movie, I was astounded by how good the film was. It is by the same directors of the Matrix.

Tilly is a mob moll looking for a way out, and as she gets on the elevator in her building one day, she meets Corky, a plumber renovating the apartment next door. Fairly soon the two consummate their relationship, and fall in love. After a mobster steals A LOT of money from the mob, Tilly's MALE lover recovers it, and the two women hatch a plan to steal it.

But many things go wrong, and they will be lucky to get out of it with their lives. The suspense will leave you on the edge of your seat, guranteed. One of the greatest gangster thrillers in a long time. While the DVD has only the trailer and audio commentary, it boasts great picture/sound. Worth checking out. And for those of you looking for just the love scene, you won't be disappointed. And you will also like to rest of the film, too.

Summary: By the Directors of the Matrix
Review: I heard of this movie when I saw the Matrix DVD bonus extras. This was the movie that got them the Matrix. I felt that is was excellently done with plot twists and mistakes in plans that were excellently directed. Well worth seeing.

Summary: BETTER THAN EXPECTED
Review: This was on television recently, it was a film i'd heard a little bit about, but most talk didn't get past the lesbian scenes. The fact that it was directed by the Wachowski Brothers (Matrix)persuaded me to watch it. I was expecting a low budget, experimental type movie that would use gratuitous sexual scenes to increase its appeal-the type of movie that comes back to haunt the directors, like an early porn film to a top actor. Well I hold my hands up and admit I was very wrong. This really was a great movie, it doesn't use an original formula but does use the lesbian relationship between Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon to give something a little new to the proceedings. I was expecting the relationship to be dealt with sleasily in a way that would cheapen the movie. Instead it is used in a way that challenges the male dominated Mafia and almost satirises the genre.

The script is well written and the film is coordinated perfectly by the director. The movie delivers suspense better than most which is definately helped by the convincing displays from the lead actors. This movie has the quality that will stand up on repeat viewings and is, therefore definately worth buying...but if in doubt, rent it out.

Summary: Knotted And Kinky
Review: BOUND tells the twisted tale of a Mobster (Joe Pantiliano), his mistress Violet (Jennifer Tilly), her lover Corky (Gina Gershon), and 2 Million dollars of the Mob's money. The film was written and dircted by the Wachowski Brothers, who also brought us THE MATRIX, is a winner from start to finish. From its twists and turns, to its bold use of sexuality, and its humor, the film is hard to classify into a genre. It is a mob movie, for sure, but it's also could be a thriller, or comedy caper. The first time I saw BOUND, I had no idea how it was going to end up, or who would ultimately come out on top. Pantiliano doesn't disappoint as your "typical" Mafia man. Tilly and Gershon certainly make for an interesting couple, but as with most things in life, it all really comes down to the money. Perfectly paced and directed with a tilted style, the movie is sure to leave any viewer satisfied, and guessing till the end.

The DVD with the unrated cut of the film takes things a bit further than the theatrical version did. The DVD also features a fun commentary track with cast members and filmmakers. Everyone offers some cool trivia and info about the film. The only other extra on the disc is the trailer. Don't let the film's lack of classification throw you. BOUND is sure to excite any and all who see it Highly Recommended. Special Edition anyone...?

Summary: A brilliant mob movie played against type.
Review: This is a wonderful movie, and being used to the standard offering where macho italian mobsters beat up on their dumb molls, it is a real breath of fresh air.

Jennifer Tilley oozes sexuality from the opening scene in this movie, and never stops right to the end. She plays Violet, her character, brilliantly. A mob club Vamp who is there as furniture for the boys, and they drool and fight over her, little realising her true nature.

Enter Gina Gershon, the butch ex-con called Corky, flaming obvious lesbian, replete with tattoos and leathers. Boom! Violet moves from Vamp to seductress in some of the hottest sex scenes ever filmed - gay or straight!

Having formed a sexually charged but shallow bond, the ladies embark on a plan to relieve the mob of a couple of million in blood money. Violets significant other, Caesar (played brilliantly by Joe Pantoliano) is busy in the apartment laundering the money for the mob. In a tongue in cheek parody, he actually has to launder the money, washing off the blood, haning it to dry, and ironing it.

In classic Hitchcock tradition, Violet and Corkey tell us exactly how the heist is going to go down. And of course, it all goes horrible wrong. Caesar is not as dumb as they thought, and the plot escalates into angst, madness, violence and murder with a neat Tarantino-esqe twist.

This is a great movie - Hitchcock meets Tarantino. Lots of atmosphere and suspense, but also lots of laughs, not to mention mayhem and murder. Not a movie for those who are squeamish around blood, murder, violence, lesbianism or drain clearence. But highly recommended for those who love bondage, leather, tattoos, butch lady decorators and shiny stainless steel sink traps.

Summary: Innovative film portrayal of lesbians and good noir.
Review: For warchild27: Yes, on track 18 of my DVD, Joey Pants' commentary cuts out for most of the rest of the track. From track 19 on, the commentary should be fine. However, I bought a used copy which has visible scratches. If your audio cuts out on some other track than 18, then you have a defective disk (and so do I).

Film is an actor's film, rich in suspense and nuance. Joey Pants is great as always. Tilly is odd, and Gina Gershon is a bit disappointing to me, but all of the character actors were great, especially Law & Order SVU's Christopher Meloni, a riot as a whacked-out psychopathic henchman.

I was a bit disappointed in the editing, although some shots and editing are clever. Some of the editing decisions are explained in the commentary, which I found to be a hoot and which genuinely enriched my experience of the film. Too bad all of the stars showed up late for the commentary session, Tilly and Gershon coming in about 30 minutes before the end of the flick!

This is not a lesbian suspense film; it's a suspense film in which the protagonists are lesbians. The film attempts, I think successfully, to make their lesbianism seem normal.

Summary: audio difficulty
Review: I loved the movie so much that I bought the dvd some years ago. Wondering though, is it just my particular dvd that has problems with the audio commentary? It cuts out for a few minutes and it's really been bugging me.

Summary: Great Little Movie, Well Photographed, But Not In Anamorphic
Review: So again, there's no point in me buying this DVD since it won't work on my widescreen TV.

Summary: Over-rated: Here be spoilers
Review: I thought this movie was visually very interesting. There are unusual camera angles (underneath a sink, under the dashboard of a car, through the walls between apartments) and the lighting is an actor in its own right.
But please don't tell me that this is a good plot. The only thing that makes it unique is that the lovers are both female. If Gina Gershon's character were a guy, the story would be hackneyed and moldy. I'm all in favor of strong female leading characters and positive, assertive lesbian characters, but these two don't enhance an otherwise tired story in a unique way.
SPOILER ALERT: The scene with Johnnie and Shelley in the bathroom with the pruning shears goes too far. You could stop that scene when he produces the shears and says "I'm gonna ask you ten times" and it would have been suspenseful and horrifying enough. They didn't have to show blood spurts and dropped digits. Jennifer Tilly's reactions to the sound effects are far more effective than anything they could show. Like the girls' second intimate scene (the seduction fulfilled), the directors just went gratuitously over the top. A hint is enough. Cheap titillation like that drags down an otherwise very good film.

SPOILER ALERT TWO: I'm still not sure how I feel about the ending of this film. It's nice that they had a semi-happy ending, but there are times when you think that they couldn't possibly get away with it.

And I agree with some of my fellow reviewers: if you can stand the sound of Jennifer Tilly's voice, you'll be fine.
