Rating: Summary: Good, But Not Great Review: I read the first two novels of the Left Behind series and thouroughly enjoyed them. I waited and waited for the first movie to show up and I thought it was very well done. When I saw the sequel in the video store, I instantly grabbed it to watch. Again, I was not disappointed with the production valuse or acting. I was disappointed that they shaved so much out of the movie. This does not have the epic scale of Left Behind, but it was entertaing - even for a non-Christian.
Rating: Summary: What a boring film Review: i think that the greatest problem for Evangelical filmmakers is that they don't understand moral conflict - you're either saved or not. There's no in between, hence they see nothing exciting or don't know how, I'm not sure, to write morally conflictive scenes, where there's a spiritual and temporal threat to the characters. Hence, they write dialogue-heavy, overbearing and certainly unrealistic "religiousy" dialogue, as though that were all that's needed to resolve every crisis, however dramatically interesting. Get a real writer for the next film, please. And don't be so darn cheap with the budget - you made lots on the 1st film.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful film. A very great sequel Review: I thourghly enjoyed this film. The story line starts picking up pace as do the events. The message of salvation is constant but not preachy. Rayfords character is stronger and not so meekish as in the first movie. You really start to see Carpithia work his way through the ranks and take tighter control and see his hatred come out towards those who oppose him. The finale where Ben Judah meets the two witnesses (with the events around it) and later makes his annoucement to the world is quite emotional. No one should be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Judged unfairly Review: Can it be that the same public that busts this film for having production values that fail to measure up also embraced The Blairwitch Project and turned it into a runaway hit? Face it: A lot of people will eventually settle on criticizing the obvious (the budget and FX) because they know criticizing the faith implicict in the film would be just un-PC enough to make them sound unenlightened or prejudiced. Sure the film preaches largely to the already-converted. But in a climate in which the uncoverted will latch onto any trivial thing to renounce a film, what is a Christian filmmaker to do? The makers have compromised to arrive at a solution which upsets a lot of people here, but so it goes: You have YOUR hits, and we'll have OURS for the present time. Or put another way, we'll give aid and comfort to believers when unbelievers are incontrovertibly hostile and unopen to our message and P.O.V.. This may not be good Christianity, but it makes the kind of business sense that may one day make mounting a Christian Lord of the Rings-caliber SFX extravaganza that also teaches and converts possible. Think about it. Even Christian filmakers live in a business world and pray for a time when something like that won't be only a dream.
Rating: Summary: At least watchable Review: This one was definitely better than Left Behind, but it was still VERY substandard and not a movie to be taken seriously by the mainstream public. Once again, we Christians are accepting a movie that we would NEVER like if we didn't know it was a "Christian" film. If you want to see a movie made by Christians that actually has quality, check out Hometown Legend. I was skeptical of that movie because it was executive produced by Jerry Jenkins, author of the Left Behind series, but it proved why he did not support the Left Behind movies. It has fantastic acting, music, cinematography, and has actually been taken seriously by the mainstream and released by Warner Brothers, not just a Christian company. Hometown Legend was the first film made by Christians that actually excited me. I really hope that films made by Christians can improve, but as of now, we're still way behind the curve, and we should demand better.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Movie Review: I have read ALL of the books - so far - and have been eagerly awaiting the movie(s). The only complaint I have is that we only have 2 movies made from the series, so far. If you enjoy the books, then you'll enjoy the movies too. It is a shame that the movie went straight to video bypassing the theaters; it would be great to expose as many people to God as we can and if a medium like the movie theaters can be used, then we should take advantage of it. The actors did a wonderful job and I commend them all for using their talents to create movies that could change so many lives. Bravo and Thank You! This from a proud Christian in Georgia.
Rating: Summary: Super movie!! Review: I saw this video two days ago and I loved it!! I was very impressed because each Peter and Paul Lalonde production becomes more polished. There is a huge difference between this movie and their first theatrical release Apolcalypse, which is still my sentimental favourite. I really like the cast of these movies. They are excellent. Kirk Cameron is stellar, along with Brad Johnson and Gordon Currie. My daughter tells me the books are better (which I haven't read yet) but I was impressed by Left Behind and this sequel. If there are going to be 10 movies like the books, you bet I'm going to be buying them all!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent movie Review: I just got my DVD copy of Tribulation Force, and found it to be rather exciting, okay sure it doesn't follow along exactly with the book, but...so what? If the movie makers were to make a movie word for word to the book, it would be a 4 hour epic, so come on. The movie is a loose interpritation of the book. I loved the different pacing of this movie from the original, mixing the mild romance between Buck and Chloe and the action that comes climaxing with the events at the wailing wall, and the insuing speech. Okay, so certain characters didn't die at the end. I am glad that all of the original actors came back to play in thir consecuitive roles, it gives it that extra sense of continuity, and the soundtrack was good, and it added a lot to the feel of the scenes.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: Although, I will try not be as harsh as some of the other negative reviews of this film, I have to agree with most of the sentiments. The real tragedy with this movie series, is that they had SO much going for them. It seems to me that with one of the best seller novel series ever written, pulling together the necessary resources and investing to produce hollywood level movies would not be that hard. Frankly, I would love to be a personal investor as I am sure many other people would. I, like everyone else, would love to see an actual christian based film not make me cringe when I watch it. I have been following cloud ten and was hoping to see great things from them, but they continually show weakness in the areas of actors and more importantly writing. Also, evangelism is why we are doing this but when are we going to realise that no one likes being beat over the head. My problems with this movie release. 1. The GROSS departure from the story was upsetting. Don't try to re-write a best seller. The genuinly good story telling elements of the book were replaced with in your face evangelism that even offended me, and I have been a believer since I was 6. There is one scene in this movie where Rayford and Buck are teaming up against a character explaining to him why he is a sinner. The next scene we see that character at his home with a gun about to shoot himself. Laying aside the fact that this was NEVER in the book, Both scenes were pretty awful. The first making me hide my Christian badge and the second making my roll my eyes becuase of the total overdramatization of the situation. The whole spinning the gun on the table nonsense? OK, look, you have a gun, you want to kill yourself, we get it. Why the spinning? 2. If I hear ANOTHER person sing "Amazing Grace" badly in a cloud ten picture, I am going to be the one spinning the gun. (please don't take that too seriously. I am only kidding) 3. The shadows of september 11 were apparent in this film. It appeared that they were trying to parallel the situations. This is a more minor point but still noticed. 4. OK can we talk for a second. The REASON there is absolutely no chemistry between Buck and Chloe is because Kirk Cameron's (Buck) wife is also cast in the movie as Haddy. Who's brilliant casting choice was this. They are going to be in real trouble when these two are supposed to get married. Again, the problem in the christian world is that an actor who is married can't "act" like he is in love with another woman and god forbid they actually kiss like real people who are supposed to be in love do. This is one of the many reasons christian projects like this will not cross over. At some point there needs to be permission in this community to put a little realism into the telling of a story. For instance cursing is not the best thing in the world and christians should work to not do in their everyday lives, but in the telling of a story about someone who isn't saved, how are we supposed to relate to that character if he or she is saying gosh golly. Here is where I actually have to commend cloud 10, only slightly though:-). In the movie Revelation, there was actually an incredible scene when the main acter playe by Jeff Fahey (you may remember as the leading actor in the Lawmower Man) is sparring God to nock over a glass of water and he actually used the word "Hell" as a curse word. Although most of this movie too was laced with poor acting and the like. That scene was VERY well done and believable. It's a shame that it takes a non saved person like Fahey to accurately portray what a real conversion is like. 5. OK, the low budget argument does not fly with me anymore. the entire budget for all three Lord of the Rings Films was a 100 Million, which is about 33 for each film, which is only about twice what was spent on Left Behind. There are Millions of christians and non christian who would jump to see this film if it were good. The success of the books proves this. Well I ended up coming across harder in this review than I intended. It is only because I think now is the time to start bringing forth a harvest. People are becoming more aware and expressing strong interest in end time prophecies. We simply can no longer afford to be putting out shotty productions. I do pray for the producers of Cloud Tem and honestly hope they continue to strive for excellence in their work. I do very much strongly commend them for their efforts
