Summary: Fabulous Film
Review: This is definitely one of Tom Hanks best films, and that is saying a lot. Hanks provides his usual top notch performance, while M.C. Duncan provides a performance that should have won the Oscar. The movie is long, but it is time well spent in a moving and intelligent tale. This is a fabulous interpretation of a Stephen King novel.

Summary: I won't forget this one.
Review: It was the little things that made this movie work for me. Watching these depression era guards conduct themselves with dignity and responsibility in what would have certainly been a horrendously difficult job. The exchanges between these men were inspiring. They risked their jobs to help others when losing a job meant a whole lot more than it does today. They stood up for each other and had a moral aspect to their lives that has regrettably gone the way of the jitterbug.

At times, of course, you are pulling for the happy ending, like the Shawshank Redemption, but knowing full-well that escape or reprieve isn't going to happen. "We all have a death to pay," as the film teaches us, but what we learn upon the way is what makes up our life. This movie has a lot to teach along the way and would have been my choice for best picture of 1999.

Summary: Well put!
Review: This movie is moving and funny. It has all of your classifications in it, i.e. suspense, comedy, horror, and dramatic. I could watch it over and over again. This movie is one of Tom Hanks best in my opinion. I loved him in Forrest Gump and You've Got Mail, but it was kind of wired to see him play that kind of role. I loved him in it, and he made me believe his charecter in this "Well Put" film, and that is all that matters! He is one of the most talented actors I have ever seen! His co-stars in this movie were excellent. (please forgive me but I don't know all of thee names) The man who played in this movie as Paul is gifted as well he played in The Long Kiss Goodnight with Jeena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. The little man who played Percey in this movie was a mean little S.O.B. but loved him anyway! This is my review.

Summary: Awesome movie!
Review: I was not really planning to watch this movie--partly because Stephen King movies tend to be horrific, and partly because Tom Hanks is so great & so "Intense" that you just have to be in a mood to handle it. However, my cousin rented this movie while I was spending the weekend. We were going to watch half of it one night and half the next. After the first half, I could barely sleep that night. We got up and watched the second half the next morning. It was an incredible movie--one of the best I've seen! Even though, the one execution was particularly horrifying, it was necessary to the movie. Coffey made you fall in love with him, and even though you dread his execution, you almost feel relief at the end when he is finally released from such a hard life. Tom Hanks was incredible, as always--he literally becomes whoever he portrays.

Definitely one of the best movies this year!

Summary: I tried being cynical, but failed
Review: I was somewhat skeptical of this film after reading reviews (prison guards with hearts? etc.), but after seeing it I must say that this film was touching, involving, and not overlong in the least... the characters were well drawn (allowing for the fact that this story is a fable) and the ending rang true for me... good job all around (and although you may hear contrary views on the film that are certainly valid and understandable, anyone who would give it one star or two just is not worth a listen--sorry)... well worth a rent and for many, a purchase

Summary: Wow
Review: Putting one of Stephen Kings best works with arguable the best actor today in Tom Hanks, it's inevitable that this be one of the best films of the new century -from the director of "Shawshank Redemption," another King adaptation.

When it comes to recreating a Stephen King novel for the screen, it's often nearly impossible to do. But with Shawshank and The Green Mile, it's done nearly word for word. The only omission in The Green Mile was during the modern day scenes w/ Paul Edgecomb in his "retirement community." In the book, Paul endures an orderly that hassles him who reminds him of the obnoxious and rude Percy from his years on E block. I thought that leaving him out of the movie was a great idea, because he didn't bring much to the plotline and would have extended an already long movie.

Regardless of the movie length, if you want a wonderfully told story, with absolutely superb acting, this is a must-own movie.
