Summary: It doesn't just Jerk the tears...
Review: Every so often there comes an event. Not just a movie, but a whole event! "Magic" best describes this Story. I'm not one to read the book after seeing the movie. I read Stephen King's "The Green Mile" before getting the DVD. The book was fantastic, and the movie acted as a lens at amplifying the effect! I've dripped tears while watching movies in the past, but I broke out in some serious Sobs while watching The Green Mile. Hanks, once again, performs wonderfully while being backed up by a stellar cast of Above Average actors! The Green Mile was also Brilliantly Directed! The plot was truly original, and the ending is, without a doubt, not what you'd expect! This movie goes to show that excellent filmmaking is far from dead! Kudos to everyone involved in brining this masterpiece into a full and magnificent life!

Summary: As good as the book
Review: For over 30 years, I have felt that movies based on books were not as good - especially Stephen King's books, where the lion's share of the action takes place in people's minds. This movie is a rare exception, with flawless performances all around. This is a must-see for King fans, and fans of the book.

Summary: Mediocre
Review: Yawn.... okay, it was an "okay" movie, but not the "highly-acclaimed" film I was expecting. Great acting on all parts... but too long and not very credible. The only realism was the fact that an innocent black man was found guilty for a crime he did not commit. I guess it was "okay" for a Steven King story, but... Oh - and the academy award goes to the mouse, Mr. Jingles. :)

Glad I waited til this was out on video. I would have regretted paying theater prices for a so-so film.

Summary: Excellent! My 2nd fav movie from 1999
Review: This is a very good movie. Tom Hanks is great as always and Michael Clark Duncan is just as good! The movie is a bit long but it's so good it keeps you into the movie thus you don't really mind the time length of the film. Hanks supervises Death Row in the 30's and meets John Coffey (Duncan), a Death Row inmate who seems to have the gift of seeing people how they really are and the gift of being able to heal and more. Thats all i will say as you need to see the movie.

Summary: A simple yet magical tale
Review: The Green Mile is the story of the Death Row (the "Green Mile") in a depression era prison. It is an exploration of humanity and injustice and has an element of magic.

This is a great film. The characters are well developed and the acting very strong across the board. I found the minimalist cinematography of the "Green Mile" itself very creative and powerful. I really felt I was there and a part of the small family of prison guards and inmates who looked after each other. This is a story that moved me to tears.

Some people found the film a bit long, partly due to the fact that most of the film takes place inside of the "Green Mile", but I felt that gave the film a chance to develop at its own pace and really allow us to know the characters and either make friends or enemies with them.

What I like best about this film is how much it does with so little. I also loved the way that I was able to identify with a group of men in an extremely difficult job in very hard times who never loose touch with their humanity.

Summary: You're crazy if you don't like this movie!
Review: Let me start by saying this: When i was in the movie theater watching 'THE GREEN MILE',i was literally holding back the tears.(seeing a man cry is just humiliating, you see)This has got to be one of the best movies i've seen in years. Tom Hanks and Michael Clark Duncan are simply great together! Duncan as the "gentle giant"was so believable and Tom Hanks as the Head Warden played a very humble and likable person in this movie.Every single character in this movie was excellent. Some characters you're gonna love to death, others you are gonna hate with a passion!Director Frank Darabont really brought these characters to life! If you haven't read the book before the movie then you will rent this movie not knowing whats going on, but thats the best way to approach this movie: naive. It's more fun that way, thats what i did! This movie is unlike any movie you've ever seen.Excellent attempt at putting a lump in my throat! I betcha cry? RENT IT TODAY! GREAT STUFF!

Summary: Boring, too long, very typical American melodrama.
Review: Boring, boring, not touching, overrated. And I just can't stand Tom Hanks playing the same guy over and over again in his movies.

Summary: The Green Mile
Review: I was very pleased with this movie! It had a slow start, but I was literally on the edge of my seat through most of it. I am an 18yr. old girl and I loved it, but never realized how "cruel and unusual punishment" the electric chair was. I was a little shocked by some of the actions in this movie, maybe we have been desensitized by some forms of violence, but I think this movie really might have changed my mind on the issue of using the electric chair. I think I might look at mice a little differently too. I shed many tears throughout this movie and you will two. A must-see!

Summary: Gren Mile Goes a Long Way
Review: I have seen this film three times and each time was left with mixed emotions of awe and sorrow ! The Green Mile also contained strong elements from movie and book classics of the past such as The Grapes of Wrath (story taking place during the Great Depression) and Of Mice and Men (the mouse and the big-hearted mentally challenged giant). This is surely a modern masterpiece bound for classic status ! True, this is not a film for all ages. Yet, there are many messages on the value of life and our human existence we can all draw from... As for the three hours plus, not a single frame of the film or scene was wasted; It went the extra mile !
