Summary: A DVD review
Review: "The Green Mile can be so long," this quote from the movie had to be an inside joke. This movie runs long, but in the end, worth it. The DVD is fairly standard no extras that bring out DVDs potential. A trailer, cast/crew notes for 5 actors, and a 10 minute 'making of' documentary that overall gave little insight into the movie. You would have thought such a long movie could have had a longer documentary. Overall a DVD to have in your collection if you enjoy a good, although long, story.

Summary: One of those must see films.
Review: Tom Hanks gives a stunning perfomance in this moving and uplifting movie. The cold dark reality of the electric chair and those who wait for it on the "Green Mile" is starkly contrasted with the childlike innocence of the giant negro John Coffee and a circus mouse called mr Jangles. We see the worst kind of horrors of man against the best kind of magic of the human soul. Above all is the calm quiet manner of the warders on the death wing, a gentle group of men who care for a band of murderers at the end of their lives. They practice the rituals of the electric chair so that they minimise the trauma to the dying man. This film is a triumph of the spirit, uplifting in the way the Shawshank redemption and the Sixth Sense get to you. See it.

Summary: A Powerful drama
Review: It never fails, cast Tom Hanks and it is destined to be a great movie. The Green Mile is no exception, an outstanding drama that keeps you watching despite its longevity. Tom Hanks plays the lead character, Paul Edgecomb, a prison guard for death row inmates. Then one day, a new prisoner who is a gentle giant in every sense of the word, is brought over, played well by Micheal Duncan. He introduces himself by saying, "My name is John Coffey, coffey not spelled like the drink." Edgecomb discovers Coffey's amazing gift first with the other guards realizing it later. The prison guards would like nothing better than to let Coffey go because of his abilities. Of course, they can't and it leads to an emotional rollercoaster at the end that will bring tears to anyone who has a heart. GRADE: A

Summary: A Quality Film
Review: One of Tom Hanks' best movies that has alot of simalarities to The Shawshank Redemption. If your a fan of Shawshank rent this film immediatly. There are a number of good character's in this movie including Prison Guards and Prisoners. Although its 3 hours long you won't feel the time. You won't be disapointed with this.

Summary: Love versus Hate
Review: Two movies in 1999 brought me to tears on more than one occasion (yeah, I'm easy, so sue me).... One was "The Green Mile" and the other movie was "Hurricane". Both of these movies reminds me how we wish things could be versus how reality (by our every day actions) allows us to treat our fellow man. Justice is a word often used by people and many seem to point to the "justice versus Injustice" of the world. But it all boils down to our reactions (drilled into us by our parents and peers) to the "love versus hate" qualities we all share in this world. This movie and The Hurricane both give one great pause as to today's reality versus how we wish life would be. Both Michael Clark Duncan (Green Mile) and Denzel Washington (Hurricane) deserved Academy awards for their performances. Both films are rewarding experiences and I recommend them both.

Summary: All Beasts--Large & Small
Review: Can you imagine melding a little furry mouse, a huge hulking beast of a man, into a wonderfully woven magical tale, and your name is NOT "Disney"? I couldn't. However, super-natural master author, Stephen King, has a gift unsurpassed by few if any among modern day writers. And when he teams up with Disney--voila--one of the finest films made.

King's gift brings us this mysterious story of a man, John Coffey, who is wrongly imprisoned for the hideous murders of two small girls. Coffey is on deathrow, back in the 1930's. He has a "gift" too. And when the guards learn of this, they use this wonderfully strange force in miraculous ways.

I did have problems watching the intake & outflow of ---yuckkk ---what I guess I would call part of the magic. Hanks et al were well cast, and the electric chair room shots were extremely intense.

By now, most know the entire plot from either the book comprised of 6 novellas or from this hit movie. Either way, "The Green Mile" is rich, textural, heart-wrenching and just makes us want to protect all beasts, large and small.

Thank you for your interest & comment votes--CDS

Summary: Bible Rip-Off?
Review: This was a great film which I enjoyed a lot. it was too slow paced however, and was not nearly as morally challenging as it could have been. It contained a lot of parallels with the execution of Jesus Christ (even down to his initals) which did make it quite predictable. It contained too much american pie for my liking - apart from one obvious exception the prison guards were all golden boys - as were the inmates. The film could have tackled redemption better than it did, and JC could have had better reasons for wanting to die rather than his own suffering. Call me harsh, but that is a bit of a selfish attitude when he possessed the ability to do so much good. Overall, a thought-provoking film - a cut above the usual tripe, but by no means perfect

Summary: So Moving
Review: Been a grown man of 30 years old I never thought I would ever get the 'weepy' feeling whilst watching a movie again in my life (well not since the champ anyway;) but alas the unthinkable has happended I watched this movie last night with my wife and can quite honestly say that for the full 3 hours I was captivated. It all makes sense and although a fictional story I could well put myself in the shoes of Tom Hanks or any one of the talented supporting actors and believe in the 'giant-with-a-gift' called John Cofie (like the drink only spelt differently). I will remember every moment of my time spent on the green mile, for a very long time to come.
