Review: This film is one of the greatest ever made. It's complex charectors aren't cardboard cutouts of gangster's, but real people making transfermations. James Caan is brilliant and that last scene where he dies is breathtaking. Michaels transfermation is equally breathtaking. Brando is magnificent!

Summary: Arguably the best movie ever made!
Review: From the opening shot in the Don's dark office, you can tell this movie is like no other film. The quiet transformation of Michael (Al Pacino) is so subtle, you don't notice it until the very end, when the door is shut, and a new era begins. We begin the movie, with aging Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando)trying to find a good heir to his fortune. Hotheaded Sonny(James Caan), weak Fredo(John Cazale), or All- American youngest son, Michael. When did Michael begin his rise? Was it when he visited his father in the hospital, and he whispers "I'm with you now..." A beautiful scene, and a chilling one. So many scenes here are classic, the horse's head obviously, the peace meeting, the death of Sonny, Michael's wedding in Sicily, the baptism scene, the final scene, and many others. Go see this movie now!

Review: If there is any film that does its book counterpart any justice whatsoever, this is it. Never before have characters been so accurately depicted from its literary version. Virtuoso performances from Pacino, Duvall, Brando and Caan encompass experiences that the viewer can cathartically relate to: From familial love and undying loyalty to facing the ultimate enemy of all : betrayal. In the genre of the classic gangster film The Godfather lies at its pinnacle, now the only real crime is to miss it!

Summary: One of the greatest films of all time.
Review: This movie is on the short list of the greatest films ever. The real star of the movie is Al Pacino, not Brando. The central theme is Michael Corleone's transformation from all-American college boy/ war hero to mafia don. It's one beautiful, albeit violent, scene after another. Particularly stunning is the sequence where Michael presides at the baptism of his godson while his henchmen waste all of his rivals. Also memorable is Sonny's last drive through a toll booth. If you haven't seen this one, don't wait another minute !

Summary: Refuse this offer!
Review: Okay, I know it's The Godfather. This movie is in the top ten of the best movies ever made. The reason to refuse this offer is the quality of this DVD. Paramount should be ashamed of this transfer. We've all waited a long time to have the opportunity to buy the original movie by itself. Paramount chose to do nothing but give us a third rate transfer. This classic movie deserves the full treatment. It needs to be remastered in the worst way. The only extra you get is the directors commentary. Are you kidding us? This is all you could come up with. It's very strange that many more extras are available if you buy the DVD collection with all three movies.
Do yourself a favor and wait for another edition of this DVD or just tape it off television. It's the same difference.

Summary: LOUSY TRANSFER OF A CLASSIC
Review: I can only add my voice to the many who were disappointed by the DVD transfer. How can you mess up one of the best movies of the last half century? Looks very grainy in some indoor scenes...in fact, some scenes looked like they were filmed with an old, cheap video camera. That said, the story, acting, editing and music are just about perfect. The only thing that rings false is the carelessness the family exhibits after Don Corleone's attack. They act a bit like amateurs. This begs for a DO-OVER (maybe they're waiting for another anniversary year to roll around to release a definitive edition). I refuse to buy the box set as it includes the inferior Part 3. Hopefully, when they release Part 2, they pay more attention to the quality of the transfer.

Summary: The Greatest Movie of All Times
Review: Thirty years after "The Godfather" was introduced as a film to the unassuming American public, it has now bought the Corleone Family the admiration and respect that even the great Don Vito Corleone himself could never achieve. You can keep your raves about Titanic, you can restrain your affection for Gone With The Wind. This movie represents the best of American films the way The Great Gatsby represents American literature. The story of the Corleone Family's dynasty, I cannot find a better word for this movie than perfection. The acting-- Marlon Brando's legendary performance as Don Corleone, Al Pachino as rebellious, Micheal, who "makes his bones" for his father's sake, and ends up becoming more than the other New York Families imagined. The filming-- a perfect blend of light and colors, and the camera angles, though not Hitchcock, vividly show the power of the Dons in the Meeting scene, the tension hovering in the air when Micheal is with his father in the hospital, and the classic shots (CAMERA, not gun) of the many gangland killings. The script, faithful to the bones of Mario Puzo's truly incredible novel, are breathtaking. It's hard to believe that Brando is connected to the Family business when you see him dancing with his daughter at her wedding, and when Mike says, "That's my family, Kay, not me," you feel almost regretful. The devilish killings of all the Heads of the Five Families in New York, while Mike is renouncing Satan at his godchild's baptism is so horrifying, yet a feeling of justice being served is all too overwhelming. This film is, and will always be, the greatest film ever created. You haven't lived until you see it. If you refuse to view it, however, don't be surprised if someone comes over to "make you an offer you won't refuse".

Summary: Outstanding in every detail, a masterpiece of cinema
Review: Francis Ford Coppola directed an absolute masterpiece on film when he made the immortal classic "The Godfather", which was adapted from Mario Puzo's best selling book about the inner working and ordeals of the Corleone Family who was head of the powerful Mafia organization. An excellent screenplay, excellent actors and excellent cinematography makes this one of the best films ever produced and its not hard to see why. The film stars Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone aka "The Godfather", Al Pacino as The Godfather's son Michael, James Caan as Sonny who is The Godfather's eldest son and heir apparent, John Cazale as Fredo, the "innocent" son of Vito Corleone, Talia Shire as Connie the daughter and last but not least Robert Duvall as "Tom Hagen" as the adviser to the Don. The rest of the supporting cast is outstanding as well. The screenplay is faithful to the storyline of the book, which excludes some chapters from the novel, however this doesn't diminish the movie in anyway. It is a story, ultimately a tragic one, about the powerful Corleone Family and the internal strife, struggle, loyalty and love mixed in with a need for power ultimately makes victims of all members of the family. I am sure all who have seen the movie know the plot well, and for those who havent seen the movie, I wont spoil any of it, since it is a movie "you cant refuse" to see. The ultimate lesson of the movie in my opinion is "Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely". The characters in the movie are supposedly based on real life Mafioso's such as real Gambino crime boss Sam "Boom Boom" Giancana is the inspiration for Vito Corleone and Johnny Fontaine is based on Frank Sinatra as it will be easy to see when the viewer watches the movie. This is a true classic in every sense of the word and I can't recommend it highly enough for those who enjoy classic movies and movies that last throughout time. This is only the opening chapter however and there are two more movies (Godfather II and III) in this incredible saga that are just as brilliant as this one and I highly recommend that they be viewed as well to see the ultimate tragedy of the Corleone Family.
