Summary: Possibly one of the best Hitchcock films ever done!
Review: I have seen this film many times, and never tire of it. But seeing the restored version was a real thrill! And, as always, every angle of every camera shot is a work of art at the hands of the master. If you own any of Hitchcock's films at all, you MUST own this one, and REAR WINDOW.

Summary: Superb movie, shame about the DVD commentary
Review: First, the movie is of course superb. If you like Hitchcock, then naturally you will want to have this. If you aversive to Hitchcock, then you will still find this an exception (along, probably, with Rear Window). Enough has been said by other reviewers about the plot to make further comments superfluous. The DVD is excellent - the picture and sound resotration are superb (yes, the Foley had to be re-done, but given the choice between that and no restoration, there really was no option, and it isn't as intrusive as some people have claimed). My one complaint is the optional audio commentary on the DVD version. Normally this is a good extra on a DVD, but after the first half hour or so, the commentary on the action in front of you trails off and is replaced by a sequence of reminiscences about working with Hitch. Thus, some of the most famous scenes in movie history pass by undiscussed or (infuriatingly) moments of high passion and tension are coupled with unconnected reminiscences. I'd still give this picture a 5 rating, but the DVD extras get a zero.

Summary: Surreal ?
Review: Bernard Herrmans, terrific score is just one part of this great film. There are actual sequences where there is no dialogue for 20 minutes. Montage is in effect here also. Its not only the Saul Bass titles..but the incredible montage set off by Stewarts recognition of the " necklace" . William Cameron Menzies would have liked this sequence. Pure( color) Cinema

Summary: Hitch's finest hour - and one of the best movies ever
Review: One of the darkest, most disturbing and most beautiful movie ever produced, 'Vertigo' is one of the few celluloid's products that deserve the "work of genius" tag. It's an incredible accomplishment, both on the technical and the artistic side - and is also terrific entertainment, of the classic kind -the complex, haunting but not confusing plot will keep you involved for the whole film's lenght. Add to this James Stewart's most intense role, Bernand Herrman's most powerful score, one of the greates main title sequence ever filmed and a final scene assured to give you infinite goosebumps... and the Remastere-Restored edition is one of the best crafted EVER. How can you go wrong with this one?

Summary: I have fallen in love with Kim Novak
Review: James Stewart did a great job performing in this movie.I am a BIG FAN of him in all of his shows. Kim Novak is a BEAUTIFUL actress.YOU should see the part when James Stewart is trying to figure out the murder of his wife. A Great Romantic you all must see.

Summary: A great psychological thriller, top-notch Hitchcock
Review: One of Hitchcock's very best. A complex film that needs and certainly deserves multiple viewings. Rich in a number of themes including reality vs illusion and things are not always what they seem. James Stewart gives a fine performance but Kim Movak is not much more than adequate. Beautiful color photography and a mesmerizing score by Bernard Herrmann.

Summary: "Vertigo" Is Better Than Ever- Except That Foley!
Review: I've been mesmerized by "Vertigo" for years, so I greatly looked forward to its restoration. Now that the restoration is here, and available on home video, it is everything I hoped it would be- with one glaring exception. The sound effects portion of the soundtrack (called the "Foley" track) has been completely replaced, although the speech and music tracks are still original. The new Foley is really jarring! It's too loud, it's lacking a proper grasp of sound perspective, and it's too literal. No one in the film can so much as take the softest step without the soundtrack treating the hapless viewer to an overly amplified, newly created sound of a footstep that sounds like it was taken by the Jolly Green Giant while wearing golf cleats. The gunshots in the opening sequence do not sound as if they were coming from the direction indicated in the onscreen action- and so it goes. I love the new picture- I just wish I had a way of running it against the old soundtrack. Hitchcock knew how to dub a picture impressionistically; it's too bad that skill is not around today.

Summary: An obssessive Masterpiece
Review: I came across Vertigo for the first time in the early 80's, when due to copyright restrictions, it wasn't available to be seen on video, TV or in theaters...Having read many books on Hitch's films, I always wondered why the writers of these books always thought Vertigo was his best...It wasn't until Vertigo was re-released in 1984 that I saw it for the first time, and immediately it became my favorite Hitch movie as well...There is something so hauntingly beautiful about this movie that it stayed with me...As soon as it went on video I bought it and it became a cult movie for me, I would watch it over and over, studying every scene, seeing new things upon each viewing...Unfortunately, I couldn't see the restored version when it hit theaters a couple of yrs ago, this I will always regret...But now that I bought the DVD I was blown away at how wonderful and vivid the colors now seem...I could go on for days as to why I love the movie so much, but all I can say is...If you are a hopeless romantic, and you don't see Vertigo, you will have done yourself a terrible disservice...Watch it, again and again...fall in love again and again, and have your heart broken again and again...I love the film so much...it represents the good and bad things in life, yet done with such class and suspense that only a genius like Hitch could have done it....a 10 star movie in my book!
