Review: VERTIGO is a mesmerizing, hypnotic thriller. Undoubtedly Hitchcock's best (Forget PSYCHO, this is the real Hitchcock), VERTIGO mixes in a large dose of romance with its suspense and mystery. The haunting score was composed by the impeccable musicman, Bernard Herrmann, and is one of the most memorable musical scores ever composed for a film. Even the music will haunt you. This exquisite, widescreen, restored edition is the best yet and is by far THE edition to see. A must for all video collectors, VERTIGO is definitly Hitchcock's most haunting, personal and best film.

Summary: HAUNTINGLY BEAUTIFUL
Review: I am always trying to convince my friends to watch what I consider my favorite movies. Often they see them and I can tell they become bored or not entirely impressed. At first I usually got mad and could not understand why someone would not love a movie like Vertigo. Then I realized something very important. I have seen the movie numerous times and have also read many critical insights about it. The first time I saw Vertigo I thought it was good. The second time I saw it I knew that it would become one of my favorite films. I recommend watching this movie once. Then going back several weeks later and watching it again. It works on so many subtle levels that it actually is better to see it when you already know the basic outline. Fully enjoying this film takes time and knowledge. It is like classical music that may sound good as a melody, but becomes an obsession when you know a little about the history of the composer and the historical context it was written in. Vertigo belongs to that short list of films that actually becomes better with each viewing

Review: Although most critics disliked Vertigo when it was first released,it is now in the top ten list of almost every critic and movie lover.With its new restoration and loads of extras,this movie is among the must-haves and it is the best Hitchcock offer since North by Northwest has not been released on dvd format..Buy it without hesitation..

Summary: Thought's emotions put to visual film
Review: Tremendous film, I first saw it when i was 14, as part of a theatre double header with Rear Window. Naturally I liked Rear Window better than Vertigo-but that was then. Vertigo seemed dreamy like and inconclusive. Now, 16 years later and an owner of the dvd, I understand the capriciousness of life and of this movie. I was blown away by the colors and dialogue of this complex film. You truly feel as if you are in the movie, an invisible spirit perched on Scottie's shoulder, perhaps. The colors, the drama, the twists and turns....a glimpse into a San Francisco long gone and human emotions that are eternal. You cannot help but think of obsession and loss after seeing this great film.

Summary: Viscious and beautiful!
Review: The first time I saw this movie, I was only 10. Years and years later on, I still dreamed about it. I was deeply moved and captured by the magnificent power of Kim Novak as "Madeleine" and Cary Grant as "Scotty". A few years ago I found the movie by coincidence, and bought it for my collection. I must have seen it about 15 times, and every time I see the movie, I discover something new about the plot. It is a movie you will never forget. The drama surrounding the love of Madeleine and Scottie is both fragile and beautiful - yet violent and scary. I bought the soundtrack recently (Bernard Herrmann),and especially "Madeleines theme" captures the essence of the story, and you cant help but pity Scottie as he looses Madeleine and turnes his newfound lover Judy into a true copy of her... The symbolism is amazing, the flowers, the dreams, the graveyard, the church and the picture of Carlotta...It all makes sence in the end, yet one is left behind with a grief - "oh no, this movie can't be ending now! I wanna see more!" was the feeling it left me with. Needless to say: this is my favourite movie ever. I recommend this movie to all thriller/lovestory people out there. This is a must-see...did you know that it wasnt that populare when it was released back then?...enjoy!

Summary: A classic of the BIG SCREEN
Review: I can't say too much about "Vertigo," so I won't try, but I will say that watching it in NY in 1984 changed my life. I want everyone to try and see it on the big screen, where it should be seen. Oh sure it's nice to have it on video, but if it's every playing near you, run, don't walk.

Summary: Good movie.
Review: In the beginning, I wouldn't have given an Alfred Hitchcock movie the time of day. Oh, sure--I watched the old "Twilight Zone" like episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," but as for a movie? I wouldn't watch one. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I was forced to watch both "Verigo" and "North by Northwest" in a film class a little over a year ago. I enjoyed the latter, but I enjoyed the former even more. Just when I thought the movie would end (and when I was satisfied with the ending)--bam--another twist. This is a very satisfying movie, and it deals with perhaps one of my most favorite themes of all time--the double.

Summary: Keep "Citizen Kane;" I'll Take This One Any Day!
Review: There are not enough words in the English language - or any other - that can accurately describe the PERFECT film. This is one of those pictures that only improves after each viewing. James Stewart and Kim Novack are stellar in this true masterpiece of filmdom. Bernard Herrmann's score complements the movie immensely and is an integral part of the story. Only Alfred Hitchcock, a man who epitomizes the movie-making art could have made this film. No one can touch the master, Sir Alfred, and the film is evidence of that very fact. To show genius at work, the viewer needs to check out the backgrounds or the beautifully photographed scenes of San Francisco and surrounding areas; they are as meticulously done as any of the works of such painters as Degas or da Vinci. Hitchcock may not have invented the motion picture camera, but he certainly understood it! It's too bad that the rating only limits me to five stars. THIS ONE RATES A 10!

James Stewart's performance in this film has got to be his finest, and Kim Novak's duel role is both mesmerizing and flawless.Her stunning beauty is rivaled, only by that of San Francisco's awesome scenery.This is truly one of the greatest films ever made.
