Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece, not a Megabudgeter. Review: Where do I start? How many films can you honestly watch three times in a fortnight and know it wont be too long before you feel compelled to view it again? 12 Angry Men, a movie that risks everything on a script, and succeeds triumphantly because that script sets you back on your heels(instead of earth-shatteringly expensive special effects or exotic location work) and draws a uniformly astounding set of performances from a cast most of whom were unfamiliar at the time. Henry Fonda, one of only two "big" names amongst the dozen participants, has the advantage also of being the one who stands against the view of a group of jurors, hell bent on putting a young boy in the electric chair for "obviously" murdering his father. Yet each character is played so well, is so interestingly unique in each case, and is given such telling lines, that you hang on the words of them all equally. The other well known face, (at least in 1957), is Lee J. Cobb, who in any other film would have stolen it completely, but here is "merely" as memorable as all the others. Robert Webbers character is excruciatingly irritating, but hes playing it to perfection none the less. That Fondas viewpoint will win the day is probably never in doubt, but how he,(and infact some of the other characters despite themselves), achieves this is positively gripping and astonishing. Sidney Lumet, in his directorial debut, proved at once what he was capable of, and, in this single set scenario, that classic status does not necessarily depend on an extravagant outlay. One of the Top Five Best Movies of all time. I rest my case!
Rating: Summary: internet Review: I'd like to see the photography of the 12 actors and some part of the film with nonverbal communication
Rating: Summary: It was a thought provoking movie! Review: Okay, I'm only a 13 year old, but my Texas History teacher has gotten me to appreciate and enjoy classic movies like this one. We saw this in class, and I thought Henry Fonda was brilliant. I really enjoy his acting! This movie is a great drama for all people!
Rating: Summary: Excellent, even today. Review: This has always been one of my favorite movies. It's amazing what the director accomplished in a simple court room setting. The tension, confusion, and anger are brought out masterfully and are aided in grand style by the camera's close-ups. The cast is wonderful, and the acting is outstanding across the board. This is a movie to be enjoyed over and over again. I can't believe that everyone hasn't seen this film yet. Between 1 and 10, "12 Angry Men" gets a solid 9.
Rating: Summary: Bad day at work? Let these guys vent for ya! Review: Forget today's special effects, big explosions and easy to swallow dialog. For an hour and a half we are drawn in to a heated argument over a young boys life. 12 terrific screen and stage actors duke it out to determine his guilt or innocence. Henry Fonda's role as the lone man who stands up for what he believes in is almost overshadowed by a powerful performance by a angst driven Lee J. Cobb. Terrific performances by E.G. Marshall, Jack Klugman and Ed Begley make this a must have for classic movie buffs. The show is carried in one room by some of the best. Two thumbs baby!
Rating: Summary: Nothing but drama (In one room!!!) Review: 'Twelve Angry Men', after seeing it . . . and seeing it . . . and, hey, I saw it again, has escalated to quickly become my favorite movie of all time. The 1997 version is okay, but Lumet's version is SO much better! There's twelve central characters, yet the movie manages to provide plenty of drama and character interaction. All this is done in ONE room for an hour and a half without any time skips or music. A remarkable feat.
Rating: Summary: superb Review: this movie is superb, opposingly to the more recent version with a bunch of so called actors. It's this one you have to see!
Rating: Summary: A Superb Commentary on fear, McCarthyism, and me-tooism Review: This film is a superb commentary on man's fear, McCarthyism in the 50's and the power of one man to make a difference. I would recommend this film be shown in every classroom in america with a discussion of peer group pressure and personal character. My understanding is the writer suffered from the red scare/black-listing of the time and wrote this film under an assumed name.Henry Fonda portrays a man standing in the face of a run-away jury and asks one simple question, "is it possible". Henry Fonda never states his belief that the defendant is guiltless, just that it is possible he is not guilty. See the film, and teach our children the strength of character it takes to go against the crowd.
Rating: Summary: The best jury room scenes I ever saw Review: I don't know if this is a "colorized" version - for heaven's sake, find the black and white original. Don't insult yourself and the film. As for the movie itself, I doubt many modern filmmakers would dare attempt something like this - nothing but raw human drama IN ONE ROOM for the entire film. And the script, the acting, and the direction really make it work - this is as gripping as it gets. Wonderful to behold. Psychology professors might consider showing this to their classes if they are studying motivation and persuasion.
Rating: Summary: Great video for enhancing your critical thinking skills Review: This video demonstrates great examples of critical thinking in a crisis situation. You will not regret when you have seen it. It is one of the greatest video that makes you think and it is fun to watch!
