Summary: indescribable
Review: This movie from beginning to end from every aspect is as solid as any I've seen. Whether it be the plot, character development, musical score, setting..everything about this movie was created...no...meticulously crafted to give a very real and grim presentation. This is without question the best movie about serial killers and detectives. It never gained the recognition is deserved, but will always be one of the top favorites on my shelf.

Summary: Not as scary as it thinks
Review: Morgan Freeman is the seasoned homicide detective and Brad Pitt his green and eager partner, a fresh trainee who thinks rules only exist to hamper good cops in "Se7en". The title refers to the deadly sins which collectively inspire some horrible serial killer to perpetrate particularly gory murders (one man is overfed to death, another is kept in bed with his limbs and tongue removed, still another is forced to perform an act of unspeakable sexual violation). There isn't much of a story here, mostly because director David Fincher spends most of his time on the visuals - the setting is some barely identifiable city where the weather is perpetually horrible (it's always raining, like in Blade Runner), and everybody looks like they deserve some kind of divine retribution. Unfortunately, the visuals not only take attention from the story, they make it almost impossible to understand what the story really is. (Just like in Fincher's "Alien3", only that film did sustain a fair amount of suspense for the first half hour). The characters aren't well developed - with Freeman playing his worldly wise self, Pitt as the young hotwire slated to replace him, and Kevin Spacey as the object of their hunt. Besides the stars, everybody else seems to exist in some form only slightly more substantial than the fog that engulfs the city. When the killer turns himself in (you didn't think a script this thin allowed for some real detective work, did you?) the lack of character definition is clear. Who is the killer and how has his hunt been brought to end - are questions that you not only can't answer after finishing this movie, but you are sapped for any reason to even care. The film ends on a major cop out. I can't believe somebody thought that the cooler thrills of "Silence of the Lambs" were any way touched by this film.

Summary: An Amazing DVD!
Review: I think we can all agree that the first version of "Seven" that came out on DVD was a little more than disappointing. The picture quality and sound could've been a whole lot better. There could've been more extras, which the first DVD totally lacked. Most of all, the movie was on BOTH sides of the DVD, which meant that you had to change sides halfway through the movie. Well, all of that has changed, because now you can own "Seven" in a new restored and loaded with extras special edition.

First, let's talk about the DVD. The picture quality is outstanding and is a lot more clearer than the earlier version. The sound has also improved greatly, (especially since you can choose DTS if you have it), and makes the movie seem more darker and twisted than before. There are so many extras on it that it's not even funny. There's little documentaries on making part of the movie, (like how the notebooks found in John Doe's apartment were created). This special edition is two disks, which means there are more than enough special features that will keep you happy.

Now, let's talk about the movie. Let's face it; you're not going to spend a lot of money on a DVD that you do not like just because it's loaded with extras. Why would you want a horrible movie with great extras? Well, this is a suspenseful and dark thriller that will stay with you even after it's all said and done. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman play detectives who are hunting down a maniac serial killer who kills people by their sins. Each murder is more puzzling, gruesome, and bizarre than the last. They must find out who the killer is before he finishes his so-called "masterpiece." How much blood must be shed before the killer is caught? This is an unforgettable movie that will haunt you in your dreams.

This is a spectacular collection that really does the movie justice. I must warn you that you might want to rent this one first before buying it. It is a very disturbing and gruesome movie with very graphic and explicit crime scenes. This movie is not for people with weak stomachs. If you love the movie, then by all means, purchase this explosive DVD. It'll leave you breathless.

Summary: one of the best movies of the 90's, no doubt about it
Review: "Seven" is one of the most intelligent, thought provoking movies of the 90's. I would not, however, characterize it as "realism", but rather as morbid surrealism, in the sense that the director is less concerned with getting the details of the real world right and more concerned with painting a picture of a doomed, dark, and basically evil world. This is the only performance Brad Pitt has ever given that I can stomach, and I would even go so far as to say that he does very well as the well intelligent but none too bright young detective, Mills. Morgan Freeman gives a flawless performance as Somerset, a misanthropic intellectual who is beginning to question both his occupation and the basic goodness and desirability of human life. Fincher is obviously trying to tell us something very unpleasant with this film, and yet his message is relevant and not simply intended to depress or disgust. The evil in the world is crushing when we stop ignoring it and is quite irreparable, there is no way to take back one act of malice or one atrocity, and therefore we cannot see the world as necessarily 'good'. Although he goes a little overboard with the rain and sometimes lapses into pretentiousness, most of it is subtle, masterfully done, darkly humorous at times, and chillingly believable. If you think you can't take the unrelentingly bleak atmosphere of it, wait until you see the ending, which is undoubtedly one of the most disturbing and horrific finales I've ever seen in a motion picture. This is not just a 'shocker' or an 'MTV movie', and is probably one of the best movies of the 90's. If you're a hypersensitive or depressive person, however, I would not recommend it.

Summary: A great movie. But you may want to send the kids to bed
Review: Frightning. This is the movie I hoped Silence of the lambs would be. In aworld where "who dun it oh it was my best friend" Murder mysteries abound Seven is a breath of fresh air. THe killer isn't some one you would never expect. It's someone you never expect to meet. The acting is surpurb. And it's a slasher film with out being exceedingly vilont. No fountin of blood sprinig from a paper cut. This Movie is sleek, slick and disturbing. It's also funny and deeply moving. The ending will shock you.

Summary: Pitt and Freeman in So- So Thriller
Review: I think this movie is way, way overrated. The film is shot nicely and everything, but there just isn't a very strong entertaining quality to it. It's dark and dingey. Normally, I like that sort of thing if it's done right. This is just too cold. The two stars are good. (spoiler) This movie isn't scary at all, nor is it very exciting. A pretty bland, mediocre offering that could've(and should've) been ten times better.

Summary: A Modern Day Classic!
Review: Se7en is already a classic in the thriller genre. The story about a serial killer punishing his victims for their sinful living by killing them in a most gruesome manner. Old detective Summerset(Freeman) is put on the case with his new partner(Pitt), the movie is full of suspense from the first moment, the clues, the investigation and the two detectives private conversations. They are opposites. Pitt the idealistic young detective, that want to conquer the world, and Freeman the tired old man, that see that it makes no difference and you cannot change the world(even though he might learn something in the end). Gwyneth Paltrow plays Pitts beautiful wife, and she is great even though she does not appear alot. The showdown is one of the best and most suspenseful I have seen in a long time.
The movie is grim and dark. There are no strong colors and the light is always gritty, which helps to create the atmosphere of the movie. A great movie, great acting, great directing. Watch it!

Summary: This is a great film. But I'm afraid to watch it again.
Review: I didn't enjoy this film. Like 'Apocalypse Now,' I didn't enjoy it; in fact, it sickened me at times. But--wow--what a great film. Watching it, I got the feeling that its makers paid the closest attention to the minutest detail; that they took what they were doing very seriously, and I got the feeling their movie was trying to say something very important. And so I say it's great because it seriously tries to say something and does. I'll let you figure out the message for yourself, though. But don't worry--you won't have trouble discerning it. This isn't a film of vague symbolism. It'll give you the message outright, almost blatantly.

There's nothing more I appreciate than realism. There are few films as realistic as this one. There are many murders in the film; it shows the murder victims just as a homicide detective would see them. The detectives are shown as they should be also, real. Everything is accurate and realistic. However, realism alone doesn't make a great film. 'Seven' is fully engrossing too. So much so, in fact, that at its end, I felt as if my insides had been rearranged. First torn and ripped apart, then rearranged.

If I had just sat down halfway through the movie, watched ten minutes, then left, I would've left thinking. But I sat and watched it all. Afterwards, I didn't go anywhere.

Summary: Creepy...
Review: Some of the images in this movie are pretty disturbing, but not to the point of being overtly gross. I was caught off guard at the ending. I truly did not see that coming! I found the sound to be very "muddy"... many times I could not understand the dialog. Even after replaying some sections, I still could not figure out what they were saying.
