Rating: Summary: A marvelous movie, but a disappointing DVD Review: "The Vanishing" is an excellent movie for those who like thrillers with a strong sense of realism. The movie itself is worthy of five stars. Unfortunately, the DVD fails to take advantage of the qualities inherent in the DVD medium. The picture format is standard rather than widescreen. Additionally, the subtitles are always on and they sometimes cover a full third of the screen. Thus, for those who would like to turn the subtitles off and get a really good look at the picture, albeit at standard version picture, this DVD will be a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: It is a good movie; however, the remake is more exiting Review: This is a good movie; however, i find the remake by far more exciting. If the director concentrsted on the music in a better way, he would have added more suspense to the movie. If you are a movie fanatic, get both this one and the remake. If you are looking for suspense and exitment, get the ramke only.
Rating: Summary: spinechilling Review: There is no comparsion between this movie and the Hollywood version. Avoid the latter! This movie is riviting from the very beginning to the end. It is relentless in it suspense. A woman disappears from a rest stop and her husband goes to extrordinary means to find out what had happened to her. Eventually he meets the kidnapper and decides to get the answer he so despertly wants - What happened to her? What happens will grab you by the throat and not let go. The acting is superb. The scariest thing is - There are people out there right now just like this kidnapper. Keep a close eye on your loved ones.
Rating: Summary: not for the timid Review: This film starts slowly, with many flashbacks. You find yourself sympathizing with the protagonist and developing an intense distaste for the villain, both of whom are played excellently. The ending is traumatic and is worth the wait. However, it is an extremely disquieting film and will stay with the viewer for days.
Rating: Summary: Excellent movie; the better version Review: I found this movie to be excellent. I also believe it is much better than the American re-make of it: the American re-make had a different ending, to make it more "palatable".
Rating: Summary: An Brilliant Film Review: This moving has everything a good film needs; suspense, intrugue, human relationship, and a great ending. Although the ending is not in the traditional Hollywood style, this amazing Dutch film will leave you pondering the characters' motives and questioning their insight. A Dutch man spends three years looking for his lost love, Saskia, and not even a new romance can stop him from doing what he must to confront the abducter and the gruesome truth. A smart movie.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating characters and an amazing ending! Review: One of the best movies I've ever seen, I've been telling everybody who'll listen to SEE THIS NOW! The Vanishing contains 3 or 4 of the most chilling scenes in film history, the characters are well developed and interesting, words fail to describe this movie. I haven't seen the American version with Jeff Bridges and Keifer Sutherland, but I hear that the ending is different (if that's the case, don't bother with the Amer. version) as perfection should not be tampered with! SEE THIS FILM!
Rating: Summary: Very suspense full, much better than the US version Review: A creepy thriller that keeps you guessing all the way to the end. The US version doesn't even compare to the original.
Rating: Summary: IGNORE AMERICAN REMAKE Review: Ignore the lame American remake-this is the one to watch. Suspense and horror-all in the bright light of day. This is a portrait of a sociopath and his testing of himself. That this includes both the good and the evil makes it all the more chilling. It is also a story of obsession with knowing the truth about yourself and others. The directing is wonderful and the unhurried pace of the editing only enhances the suspense.
Rating: Summary: A bit of a warning... Review: I you haven't seen this movie yet, and plan on seeing it, skip the review entitled "A Horror Film In Every Sense Of The Word". This reviewer gives away the ending, which may ruin a really good movie for ya.
