Summary: This won Oscars?
Review: Okay, so it's a good little movie. Kind weird, kinda quirky, definitely the bizarre kind of black comedy you'd expect from the Coen brothers. It's good. But an Oscar winner? Uh...

I mean, don't get me wrong, the writing is wonderful, the people actually talk like real people, not every little event is related to the case, it's interesting and funny and and violent and scary. It's a really well-written movie. But Best Screenplay? It's just not that type of film.

And Frances McDormand is great and all, and I'm extremely impressed that she never even so much as goes into *false* labor or anything, but it's just not the kind of role that usually gets Best Actress. It just wasn't all that... dramatic.

It's a good movie, and I do recommend it. But just don't go into it expecting some dramatic cinematic masterpiece of great importance. You'll likely be a little disappointed.

And why the heck did they call it "Fargo" anyway? Wouldn't "Brainerd" have made more sense?

Summary: "..that was your accomplice there in the woodchipper."
Review: Fargo fits into a tiny crack between popcorn flick and truly interesting, and not just because it's based on a true story. It feels the right amount of homely and immersing to be just another irrelevent kidnapping "drama", all the while keeping its simplistic "movie feel".

The story is told from mutliple perspectives of the main characters. A less-than-successful car salesman Jerry Lundegaard [Macy] agrees to pay two crooks, Carl Showalter [Buscemi] and Gaear Grimsrud [Stormare] to kidnap his wife Jean [Rudrüd]. But along the way, complications happen and the body count rises as Lundegaard and his two hired crooks try, unsuccesfully, to follow through on their plan. Through this, we meet the primary character, or the one whose perspective we look through most--Marge Gunderson [MacDormand], a 7-months-pregnant police officer who takes it upon herself to figure out the situation.

Fargo has more of a small town murder investigation plot than a dramatic something-isn't-quite-right kidnapping focus, which does nothing to worsen the quality of the overall storyline and how it plays out, but there are points where you can spot editing errors and total blandness, but the movie itself is shorter than you would expect and manages to work in such an innovative take on the genre to the frame. The acting is done well and is completely convincing, and the good direction goes hand-in-hand with it. As mentioned, there are spots were the script could be better done, but so much whereas it takes away from the feel of the movie.

Summary: MASTERPIECE
Review: I never get tired of watching this movie! It is one of the all-time best. The acting - Frances McDormand and William H. Macy are fantastic, to the dialogue and the plot, are the best...
As other reviewers have said, although the story is of
a kidnapping plan that goes horribly wrong, (as if kidnapping itself isn't a bad idea), is is also one of the funniest
crime stories I have ever seen...Just remember it is a "black comedy"....

Summary: "I sez it don't sound so good for those people in Brainard."
Review: Oh, the dialogue, the dialogue, the dialogue.

One of my favorite scenes involves a good samaritan out sweeping slush from his sidewalk. To a deputy sheriff he's reporting some suspicious info he heard from a guy whose "kind funny lookin' in a general sort of way". He concludes by saying "So I heard about them murders in Brainard on the news and I though I'd call this in.... So I'm callin' it in... End of story." What a wonderful display of midwestern sensibility.

This movie's a gem. One of the most original ever made, and well made at that.

Yur darn tootin'!

Summary: One of the best.......ever!
Review: If you haven't seen this movie yet, you absolutly must check it out. I didn't see it until about 2 years ago, when I was well aware of all the hype and commotion the movie caused. Truthfully, at the time, I really didn't want to see the movie, I just happened to see it in a clearance rack and said "OK" and bought it.

WOW!!!!

From the first ten minutes, I knew that I was going to fall in love with this movie. William H. Macy's character is a simple man, who has some serious financial problems, so he dreams up this wild kidnapping scheme with a couple of goons as the kidnappers. Steve Buscemi(one of my personal favorites) plays the "leader" of the goons. The other goon is a quiet, big fella, who's name escapes me now.

Basically, these two are to kidnap Macy's wife and demand ransom from her rich father. The goons and Macy will meet, with the ransom money, and split it two ways. Sound good, right?? Well, we wouldn't have the awesome story we end up with if everything went as planned.

This movie is not only hilarious, but very frightening. There are some scenes that are so gruesome and unexpected that you almost have to look away from the screen(and I'm a huge horro movie fan). The violence and killings in this movie are very graphic and again, you just don't see it coming.

All in all, this is a fabulous movie, complete with humor, suspense, action, great acting and a plot that never quits.

See this movie, it WILL NOT disappoint!

Summary: Fargo: "Wow, Daddy" Great
Review: Fargo is a truly great modern-classic. Frances McDormand is touching with her old-fashioned values amongst all the violence and greed of the other characters. William H. Macy is able to gain our sympathies, even after all the horrible events that unfold. He wasn't a bad guy, just stupid. Steve Buscemi is hilarious and perfect playing a weasily little man "Wow, Daddy." Peter Stormare is brutal, and very much resembling an angel of death when he walks from his car after the accident. And to think that such cold, introverted people exist among is is chilling. Also, the Coen brothers casting of actors who look average is also very effective, not only in the main roles, but small parts too. The man who tells the police officer information on Steve Buscemi is hilarious in his natural, average demeanor. And instead of picking a conventionally gorgeous woman to be placed in the flipped-over car, the Coen's pick a woman with a kind of average prettiness, that's much more powerful because she is like people we know, and we can see her having a family and friends who would miss her. The music, also, is wonderfully sad and moving. Fargo is not a comedy, but it is a kind of joke, and when watching it one must remember that the Coens are probably laughing at every scene, even if we are not.
Also, the family who thinks Fargo is the worst movie ever, and when discussing bad movies says: "but is it FARGO bad?!?!" must be the biggest bunch of dumbasses in the world. Please stop watching movies, and if that is too much to ask, please, please stop polluting the internet.
But yeah, Fargo is very good. May take a few viewings to appreciate fully, so worth buying definitely.

Summary: Not a comedy
Review: Fargo is indeed an intresting Coen brothers film. However, I do not agree with it being billed as "One of the best comedies ever".

As for the story, a car salesman hires two criminals to kidnap his wife in order for the salesman's father in law to pay tons of money in ransom. The salesman will then use the money to finance one of his own deals.

Now for the genre. I would bill it as a drama. There are indeed funny moments, but unfortunately, they are a little gray area and poke fun at the plight of human beings.

There is very good acting. Margie the police officer is one of the better roles. The salesman's son managed to bring me to tears. He is afraid that his mom is not going to be okay, despite whatever his dad says.

An okay movie, with good moments. I wouldn't recomend seeing it more than once. Definately not for the faint of heart.

Summary: A bad movie
Review: Even without the hype of Fargo, I thought this was a really bad movie.

If you can tell me why so many people gave this movie 5 stars, i would love to know,
