Summary: a good but over-rated movie
Review: A good movie, with some fine performances (especially William H. Macy). But also a very disturbing (and in some crucial ways a) loathsome one. It is almost a comment on our society and its willingness to casually absorb the slaughter of six people in a search for diversion. Almost.... Ask yourself the next time you feel like laughing at or with Marge's quaint accent: what if the two people who happen to drive by the scene of the police officer's murder and are therefore slaughtered themselves were your friends or family! Frances MacDormand's Oscar-winning performance was a one-note caricature, absurdly overpraised. If the casual acceptance of this movie as a comedy doesn't make you question our society's values then we are in for a shocking 21st century. It's a good movie, well made. But it's a scary phenomenon.

Summary: Great characters, great movie!
Review: Truely one the best movies ever. Especially enjoyed the Indian "Shep Proudfoot". "I did'nt vouch for him". Makes Minnesotans look like idiots, but most are outside of major popululated areas. Most people from here hate this movie, but they can't get past the accents portrayed, which are pretty realistic with local slackjaws.

Summary: Fascinating
Review: This movie gives new meaning to the term "dark humor". The fact that one can actually laugh in the middle of such a disturbing movie speaks volumes for the talent of the Coen brothers. They portray with dead-on accuracy how absurd life can be. This movie has an incredible cast lead by Frances McDormant who is absolutely fabulous. She is the only character in the movie that escapes the "complete idiot" classification. If you haven't seen it, you should. It is definitely worth your time

Summary: .
Review: The most strictly controlled, carefully orchestrated, and aesthetically tight of the Coen brothers' creations. It's true that it's no "Seven Samurai," as lamented in an earlier review, but the delicate orchestration of simple details, and the general atmosphere evoked by the movie, are rather unique, and the movie is far from being "trash." I don't think Fargo manages to be quite as engaging as it would like to be, and some of the humor is a bit awkward, but there is plenty to be enjoyed and admired here.

Summary: Superb Acting & Dark Humor Makes This One a Must See!
Review: Everytime I watch this DVD, I catch something different. Frances's oscar was definitely well-deserved and Peter Stormare's performance was underrated -- a nice complement to his crazy counterpart. A friend from the Dakota's watched this with me and was amazed at how realistic the acting and dialect of the Dakota's were depicted. A friend borrowed this DVD and never gave it back -- so I got two more -- just in case. LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

Summary: ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES OF OUR TIME
Review: This film is so unique and original that no words can desribe it. Everything is perfect - acting, directing, the story development. This is really one of the greatest movies ever and I recommend it to everyone.

Summary: great story telling, visually astonishing
Review: This is one of those films, the first time you watch it you don't think about it too much and eventually you become addictive to it and start to be able to pick out the fine points that make this movie unforgettable. The entire movie is white and cold, with sharp contrast of red blood and the momentary coziness of the inside. Very powerful visually. One of the best movies of the 90's, in my opinion.

Summary: gentle, intelligent and funny
Review: These guys pulled off the impossible. They made a film that is simultaneously gentle, intelligent and funny. I've watched it a dozen times and loved it each time.
