Rating: Summary: A classic Review: One of many great performances from George C. Scott
Rating: Summary: Genuinely chilling Review: If you like intelligent, low-key, well-crafted horror films such as The Others or the original version of The Haunting, you'll probably like The Changeling. The script isn't the greatest, but director Peter Medak really has a feel for creating a spectral atmosphere. Features the best seance scene since the one in Jacques Tourneur's Night of the Demon.
Rating: Summary: Ruin by atmosphere constantly cut off Review: Don't believe the hype:It's more a suspense than a real horror movie!Sure the story is good but I found the overall dull. A cute storie but not to view it twice when you know the end.First, the main character is a tired old man (goerge scott). They should use a 35-40 woman. Where the director miss the point is when a scene become to bring some creepy tension ... it suddenly cut and jump in time to a boring ordinary scene instead of extending it. All these abrupt cuts ruins entirely all the atmosphere and put the movie to the rank of 'only for the story suspense' instead of real horror film. No gore, no blood and unfortunatly not enough atmosphere (because it's constantly cut off)... amityville is much better as atmospheric ghost story than this boring suspense.

Rating: Summary: Not what I thought it was Review: I had never actually heard of this movie until a few months ago. I finally decided to rent it based on the good reviews from this site. Unfortunately, the movie didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. The director does do a good job of making the audience like his characters. You feel sorry for Scott's character when few people believe him and you like the ghost because he was just a victim. But that is almost part of the problem. Because you find yourself liking the ghost, it is hard to find any of the movie very scary. Of course, the plot would have suffered terribly if the ghost had been malevolent, but since the ghost is only trying to help Scott realize what had happened to him, it just detracts from the creepiness-factor. Additionally, I thought much of the movie was predictable. For example, the moment I saw Scott's character at the bridge, I new the ball would return, and this is supposed to be the creepiest part. To finish the movie, the ending does not make too much sense (why would the ghost try to hurt Scott, who has been trying to help the ghost all along?). The Changeling is a decent movie in terms of plot and development, but if you are looking for genuine scares like I was, I suggest you look for something different.
Rating: Summary: Intelligent suspense Review: I have never watched any of the usual horror movies (Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween) that started when I was a teenager. I see no value in watching people be bloodied and chopped up and I find it offensive that we as a nation have sunk so low. I will watch movies that have violence, but that violence has a point and real people lived through it. Movies such as Saving Private Ryan, the Killing Fields, and Braveheart are an example of these. After growing up watching Alfred Hitchcock and Twilight Zone reruns every night that I was either allowed to stay up and watch or risked getting caught with my ear to the tv after being told to go to bed, I like suspense done well. This is my favorite scary movie of all time; intelligent and suspenseful. It was the first scary movie that I ever let my then 10 year old daughter with her friend and his mother. After the movie, her friend's mother was afraid to go to the bathroom alone and we had to wait outside the door for her. It's too bad that Hollywood doesn't recognize that there are some of us who do not wish to see violence for the sake of violence, but do enjoy movies like this. These are the sleepers that you stumble upon. I only wish there were more. . . look at how old this movie is! I'm buying it today, because my son is now 10 and I don't find it's like out there. I guess I should plan to stand outside the bathroom for him for a couple of weeks.
Rating: Summary: Made me jump! That Kind of Scary!!! Review: One of the first movies to actually make me Jump! I rented this movie years ago and will never forget it. There is this weird fear of old rickety wheelchairs that scares the pants off of me. Just seeing the cover of this movie scared me. You will realize that a wheelchair can scare you like that. A child's rubber ball...harmless??? Yeah right. Watch this movie and see if you don't freak out over a rubber ball. I really loved this movie. After buying it on DVD I again was as scared and freak-out just the same as I was the first time I saw it years ago. The sound and picture are pretty good and nothing to complain about. Enjoy this movie with a person that likes to cling to your arm during movies. They'll never let go and you might have to ask them to release a little pressure from your arm occasionally. G.
Rating: Summary: Stellar Horror film Review: When I first saw this as a child I was terrified for months. I don't even think i would take baths after that. Yea, it's that good. This is one of the scariest movies ever made, and one of the most underrated. If you thought the evil dead or the shining was terrifying..heh, get this. I've seen them all friends, this is in the top 3. George C. Scott's performance is 100%. One of the true greats of the 20th century and it shows in this Performance. Also check out the VERY underrated Exorcist 3 in which Scott also plays the lead role.
Rating: Summary: Definately not the best haunted house story! Review: In a couple of scenes, you can see the camera man's shadow, and even his reflection! This really isn't scary, so skip it. The only good part is the end.
