Summary: the best told ghost story on film
Review: This movie is not for those who must see thrilling special effects or bloody violence to be scared. This movie is for those of us (and I hope we are many) who appreciate subtilty and storytelling in a good ghost story. There is little eye candy, no naked ladies, no amazing computer generated monsters, just a great story and lots of creepiness. I love this movie because it follows some of the activity reported in actual hauntings. Things move on there own, and booming noises pound repeatedly through the halls. The storyline unfolds slowly, but that is proper in suspense stories. It is much more scary dealing with the unknown isn't it. All in all, this is a wonderful film that still keeps me from sleeping after watching it. I am so very happy that this film has not been forgotten and is now on DVD.

Summary: Boo,What a Dumb Movie !
Review: I bet the film makers are glad this wasn't shown at Cannes because if it had been it would have been booed and had tomatos thrown at the screen.I was bored while watching this movie and couldent stop making jokes about the movie.The entire film feels akward with strange shots and stupid dialogue. Why was Melvin Douglas or George C.Scott in this movie?I was going to rent this movie because my friend raved about it,boy was I glad I hadn't it would have been a waste of money.

Summary: Good for a scare or three.
Review: Great little ghost-story sleeper starring George C. Scott. Is actually a sequel to DAY OF THE DOLPHIN(Just Kidding!). Scott plays a widowed man who moves into a big old haunted house. Has some good scary moments and is not at all schlocky. One I always offer up when someone asks for a frightening film. Looks as good as ever on dvd!

Review: Peter Medak's 1979 masterpiece "The Changeling" is a knockout ghost story, one of the most chilling and atmospheric horror films of all time. I must have watched this film 1000 times as a kid, and it stayed with me like few others. Since there are a number of reviews here that go into great detail summarizing the plot, which is much better left to the viewer - it is a mystery, after all - I want to comment on the DVD version, for all those who are familiar with the film and have been anxiously awaiting the DVD. There seems to be very little information about how the film is presented on most websites that I've found, but after obtaining my own copy, I have to say that even though there's a lack of extras, the DVD does not disappoint. The picture quality is surprisingly wonderful. Colours are rich and deep, with great dark scenes and warm hues. The picture does not appear plugged up or oversaturated, and is refreshingly natural. Like the recent DVD release of "Jaws", it's like watching this film for the first time. Astonishingly, there are no distracting artifacts and the picture does not look dated at all, and as one who has owned about 4 VHS copies in the past, I can honestly say that this is the best this film has ever looked. Contrary to what some websites say, the DVD is presented in a 16x9 widescreen format, and appears to have been matted at about 1.78:1. The Dolby Surround is great, heightening the suspense and atmosphere wonderfully. If you are a fan of this film, the DVD is a dream come true, and if you're simply curious, you can't go wrong - "The Changeling" ranks up with the original version of "The Haunting" and "The Uninvited" as the best examples of the supernatural ever brought to the screen.

Summary: The Absolute Best Horror Film I Have Seen
Review: Wow, this is the only film I have ever seen that really scared the hell out of me when I first saw it some 20 years ago. I remember having the chills all the way home after seeing it. Terrific acting by George C. Scott. I thought the tape recorder scene was the best I have witnessed in a movie and actually made my hair stand on end. No gore and violence which I find annoying in most horror flicks. Will look to buy in DVD if it ever gets around to that.

Summary: Great Spokky Film
Review: This is an excellent ghost story which builds slowly to a horrifying climax. It doesn't need gore or wild, elaborate FX to scare the viewer. By the time you reach the seance scene you're hooked. And look out for the scene in the child's bedroom, which in my mind hasn't been topped by any other movie I've seen.

NOT SO MUCH A "JUMP OUT AND SCARE YOU" KIND OF FILM (ALTHOUGH THERE ARE A COUPLE)BUT MORE OF A SPINE CHILLING PYSCHOLOGICAL TALE. THE STORY ITSELF UNFOLDS BRILLIANTLY AS IT REVEALS ITSELF MORE AND MORE UNTIL IT ALL MAKES SENSE.THE SEANCE SCENE IS SPINE TINGLING AND THAT DAMN WHEEL CHAIR CHASING HER AROUND THE HOUSE IS THE STUFF OF PURE NIGHTMARE! YOU WONT BE DISSAPPOINTED.

Summary: Spellbinding, Intense & Gripping
Review: Do you believe in the supernatural and paranormal? No? This movie will challenge that. A delightful and refreshing type of ghost story that strikes at the heart of the viewer. An empathy is immediately established for the widowed George C. Scott, when his wife and little child are killed in a bizarre tragedy. The suffering Scott seeks solace and isolation in a setting that could have only been destined for him, as he himself has been "baptized" into the world of despair, such as the entity whom he shares his reclusive lodging. Not only a great ghost story, but a wonderfully written mystery. You are set to discover what is the purpose of the apparition and why Scott so selectively chosen, should solve this enigma. What could have us more supportive of the undaunted main player, than his quest to right a serious injustice and end what may have been an eternal suffering of the tortured soul of an abused and handicapped child. Exceptional plot and cinematography, a very believeable melancholy tone and forlornness sets the mood for the opening scenes. The desperation of Scott to solve the mystery is perhaps a means to his salvation and escape from his own loss and suffering. This gives way to hope and a sense that justice must prevail no matter the cost. Perhaps his wife and child did not die in vain, in as much Scott became a channel for a voice from the grave, long since dead. I would give this two thumbs up and a "hat's off" to Scott that gave an exceptional performance. I have been waiting for another movie like this to come out, but none in my opinion have equaled the suspense and shock-effects this movie provides. No poorly attempted special effects or gore, very well done. It appeals to an intelligient viewer and will keep you captivated until the end.

Summary: classic horror, no gore, just pee-in-your-pants fear
Review: George C. Scott plays a man whose life has been turned upside down after tragicly losing his wife and child to an accident. He tries to put his life back together and moves into a gigantic, eerie mansion. Just as he tries to find peace in his life, things start moving around... an annoying ball bounces ominously down the stairs... Scott no longer has any children and no pet monkeys... so who keeps throwing this ball? No matter where he puts the ball, even locked in a drawer, the ball is bouncing down the stairs again. Finally, Scott drives miles away and tosses the ball in a river. When he gets home, guess what's waiting for him, bouncing down the stairs? In the style of "Poltergeist," Scott pulls in the big guns... folks specializing in the paranormal from seance readings to "automatic reading" come to the house to try and figure out who this person is and what they want. The answers he finds are the last things he expects and they take him (and the viewer) through an emotional roller coaster ride of who-dunnits and good old psychological fear. This movie was not what I expected. It is superbly acted and truly terrifies... and yet is in many ways a "feel-good" movie as Scott finds a place of comfort in struggling with the loss of his family. This is a very scary movie and there is violence purpetrated against a young child, so I highly recommend against showing this film to children. If you like murder mysteries, sci-fi and/or ghost stories that keep you on the edge of your seat (mentally and physically!), this is a classic you won't want to miss.
