Summary: Some of the worst aspects of the media, but still Lynch
Review: David Lynch can't tell a straight story, if you pardon the pun. I don't mind time-bending storylines ("Pulp Fiction," "Memento") but they have to have an underlying, live plot, as opposed to images, mood and style. And the film was too long and too self-involved. What do I mean by self-involved? I'm tired of books about authors ("Wonderboys"), plays about stage performers ("Noises Off"), songs about musicians ("Faithfully") and most of all, films about actors. Quit getting off on yourselves for once. Why three stars? Because Lynch is Lynch. Who else could give you characters like the Cowboy and the Incompetent Hitman? Even I recognize genius.

Summary: hollywood 'lucinations...
Review: ...I don't think everything is supposed to make sense, which if your a REAL Lynch-er should go without explanation. And what about the humor in the movie? I about exploded when I saw Billy Ray Cyrus laying in bed with Justin Theroux's wife. ... I remind you that Lost Highway at times was little more than Soft-Core Porn ala Cinemax. The reason I likehis movie is that it strips Hollywood of it's glossy veneer, showing that deep, dark,dirty underbelly that pushes it along. This movie will haunt you. I have to say, though, the absence of a chapter list REALLY [smells], but I guess I can deal with it.

Summary: Disappointing Second Half
Review: I really wanted to like this film, but as happens in about half of his films, David Lynch gets too frustrating/confusing for me.On the plus side, the entire film features great cinematography, and the first half of the film builds a storyline that keeps my interest. Sadly, the second half of the film self-destructs in a ball of confusion that makes the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey seem clear in comparison.

Summary: badly acted, slow story, poorly written and confusing plot..
Review: I gave this movie 1 star only cause that is the minimum, other wise it wouldn't get any stars from me. Mulholland Drive is one of these new generation "artsy" films that try to confuse you until the last scene of the movie and then reveal everything to pull it all together. Great movies like this inlcude Vanilla Sky and Memento. Unfortunately this movie only confuses you. The only reason why I sat through this 116 minute, poorly acted and poorly written movie was because I spent [money] to rent it. So I was determined to understand this very confusing storyline, but was left unsatisfied when the credits started rolling because I was still dumbfounded. I'm sure if I watched it about 5 times over I would get the plot but that would be torture and I have a life. So I came to Amazon.com to hopefully get the plot. And I thank all of the people who had the dedication to watch this movie 5 times over and explain it. What was also annoying was that there are no scene selections on the DVD. So of couse I was not able to finish the movie in one sitting so when I went back to it I had to sit for 5 minutes fast forwarding through the whole friggin movie. (which is actually more tollerable at 10x speed. and you don't miss out on any storyline). I do not suggest spending any money on this movie unless you really really want a good example of a extremely bad movie.

Review: David Lynch, give me back the two and a half hours of my life I lost forever by watching this garbage!! Not to mention my...rental fee. Only recommended for those who enjoy overblown pretentious pseudo-intellectual "films" that actually make absolutely no sense and are about as fulfilling and entertaining as watching paint dry.

Review: Careful -- Many of these reviews are full of spoilers. The most fun thing about this movie is trying to figure out what's going on. Some of these other reviews give you the most plausible interpretation, which you would otherwise have no chance of divining until at least 3/4 of the way through the movie (personally, I didn't really figure it out until the end credits started to roll). It's just not the same experience if you know ahead of time.

Review: I gave it three stars b/c....I just did not get it. I was following along up until they went to that theater....then it was all over the head from there. Somebody..PLEASE!! What the heck was this movie all about?? Great acting though....I'll give it that. Naomi Watts was excellent!

Summary: C'mon, people! The man is naked!
Review: David Lynch is a latter-day giant of quirky, complex film noir. His previous works, especially the superb "Blue Velvet," pull emotions out of viewers like a vivisectionist extracts entrails. Helpless, the viewer is drawn into Lynch's world and struggles to keep up, just as one might struggle to keep one's feet on the bottom while swimming in rough surf. In "Mulholland Dr," however, Lynch has turned his art around and ensnared his viewers in his idea of a practical joke. His film - or more specifically, the public's perception of his film - is a brilliant retelling of "The Emperor's New Clothes." ...The film has no beginning or end. Different characters have the same names (or is it the same characters are played by different actors?), some die and yet live (or is it some live and yet are dead?). Richly textured layers are thrown atop one another as carelessly as oriental rugs at a bazaar, with mismatched corners sticking out and overlaps galore. ...In fact, it will not reveal its mysteries no matter how many times it is watched. No ...experience is the same, nor is this film perceived the same way twice. And that is precisely what the director plans for us. While visually - and viscerally - captivating, the film winks at the viewer and hopes the viewer winks back. How bemused must David Lynch be that this film has been hailed as his magnum opus by so many, and nominations and awards heaped upon his efforts in bringing it to the screen. Not yet has he heard what he surely hoped he would hear, until now: David Lynch, my hat's off to you. But the Emperor has no clothes!

Summary: Irritating, unfulfilling
Review: Worst Lynch film yet. I'm going to side with the people who want a story, because most of us don't have the time to watch it over and over again to dissect what may well be utter senselessness. And why would anyone care to figure it out anyway? You won't give a hang about any of the characters, I assure you. They resemble nothing you know and stand for nothing you care about or are remotely enraged by as an ordinary citizen. The only reason to sit thru this entire movie is to wait for an explanation of the last 2 plus hours, which you will not get. At least Lost Highway had a nifty dark mood and Robert Blake's dwarfish camera wielding fiend to spook things up. This movie's surreal whatchamacallit shows up twice for about five seconds each time, and you have no idea why or what it has to do with anything else. I am a David Lynch fan, and "Blue Velvet" is in my top five movies of all time, but maybe I ought not be if this is the real David Lynch. Call me a plebe for not understanding this jive if you like, but I don't see what all these Sherlock Holmeses see in this hallucinatory dud. Naomi Watts is the only bright spot in the affair, epitomizing pert and diminutive beauty. Lucky you, you get a lesbian love scene with her and busty Laura Harring. It would have been exciting if I hadn't been laughing in disbelief that Lynch had stooped to it. Absurd. You can read the other reviews to see what the "plot" is, ha ha.

Summary: The arroganc of hollywood directors
Review: Why do I get the feeling from Mulholland Drive that I am supposed to like it simply because David Lynch directed it. I have never before seen a film where a director played on his name as much as Mr. Lynch did in this particular movie. To be perfectly honest, I did see the film because I have always enjoyed Mr. Lynch's films in the past but expecting anyone to sit through or enjoy such a piece of unbearable tripe is pushing things a little too far. MD was not only disjointed and poorly acted, it was probably the most boring film I have ever FORCED myself to sit through. The only redeeming feature in the whole show was the disparate group of characters s l o w l y trudging their way through a badly put together piece of David Lynch's folly.
