Summary: a must have
Review: this video is a must have for anyone who enjoys the doors. Val Kilmner's portrayal of Jim Morrison is the best thing that he has ever done. you will swear that he is posessed by the spirit of Morrison. Meg Ryan as Pam completes this tale of late 60's drug crazed rock and roll. Get it you won't regret it.

Summary: you decide
Review: i was very impressed by this film upon my first viewing it lead to a spree of doors memorabillia crowding my home and the neighbours complaining about jims wailing on the cd player, for atleast two months this movie really affected me and turned me to music that i considered flea market hippie garbage reminiscent of an era of ridiculous hygiene and recreational excess. this film has a lot of quality out bursts and is definately one of oliver stones better films but i preferred this vision as a more desirable role only in fiction, olivers jim would be right up there with travis bickle, colonel kurtz and mickey mouse but the reality would have been hideous. the book by densmore tells a more humane tale of a man who got caught up in something only he could have laughed and smiled. stones dramatisation plays like king of kings on acid with an electric guitar.

Summary: Very good cast

Summary: Great
Review: This is a great movie. If you like the doors or EVEN if you dont like the doors it's still great. It has a lot of the doors songs on the movie and also great TRUE facts although some are false. If you haven't seen this movie I advise you to.

Summary: More True Than You Think....
Review: So many people have knocked this movie for it's "inaccuracies" but is it really as fictional as some people would have you believe? Amazingly not. I say amazingly because the very people who make out this movie to be way off the factual mark are the same people who confirm the film to be very truthful. One example is Ray Manzarek, the Doors keyboard player. Ray has confirmed that these scenes in the movie actually happened as the movie portrayed them:

* Jim singing Mooonlight Drive on the beach in Venice( He even goes on to say that Jim did appear out of the sunlight!)

* Jim refusing to comply with Ed Sullivan and not sing "Higher" on this TV show.Telling Ed that they are a "Sullen group" when he tells them to smile.

And so on and so forth....

This things are shown in the movie but Mr.Manzarek( Who I have the greatese respect for)says the depiction is untrue.

It's as simple as this really:

If you don't know anything about the Doors, this movie will inform you and entertain you.

All of us die-hard Doors fans and those people close to Jim will aways have different opinions and views on what did happen, how and why. But whether you like it or not, this movie IS a re-production of events that DID happen. Watch and enjoy...

Summary: Inaccurate, but worth seeing
Review: This movie only shows one side of Jim Morrison and includes some false information. In any event it is a movie worth seeing if you are interested in Morrison and good music. Just don't be mislead.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Accurate? Who Cares!
Review: The people endlessly trashing this film are obviously biased against Mr. Stone, or the idea of their guru Jim Morrison being portrayed by someone else on celluloid. I haven't read an objective review yet, which is pretty sad, considering that this is a brilliant movie made by an extraordinary filmmaker. To quote James Woods reffering to Stone: "Oliver Stone is now making films that show a subjective experience, that have no omniscient point of view. This guy is doing work that if it were by Orson Welles would be hailed as genius." I totally agree. Stone angers a lot of people with his risky style, and that's why his films take more heat than most others.

The endless quivelling over this movie's accuracy is downright insane! First of all, why say "If you want a true account of the Doors, read Light My Fire by Ray Manzarek"? How can you trust Mr. Manzarek as the definitive source for a Doors biography? I'm sure drugs have poisoned the memories of the entire group, and Manzarek is no exception. Do you people realize how involved the real-life individuals were in the making of this biopic? It's practically based on John Densmore's book! If they thought some major travesties were being committed against the band, they wouldn't have let Stone go through with them. Pam Courson's family didn't let Stone portray their daughter as the junkie she truly was. Think about it.

If Morrison has no poetic side in this film, I'd like to know why everything he said was an epiphany. Face it, this is a great film, and, although inaccurate, it's just a MOVIE, not a documentary, and artistic liberties are taken with all biopics, no matter who is at the helm. You must admit that there are some truly brilliant moments in this movie. I didn't hate Morrison. Kilmer did great, and there should've been Oscar nods for him, as well as the *genius* cinematography, etc. To trash this film because it's "inaccurate" is mere card stacking.

Summary: JIM IS STONE
Review: I didn't have the opportunity to see Oliver Stone's THE DOORS until now and I must admit that this movie is one of the best, if not the best, of the career of this director. Why ? Because you don't have to be a Jim Morrison fan to be wild about THE DOORS.

The description of the rise and fall of Jim Morrison is a Hollywood theme by excellence. It seems that men cannot breathe once they are at the top level of their career or their inspiration. You can't approach the Gods at no risk.

It's clear that you can recognize a part of Oliver Stone in this biography. In fact, THE DOORS is an adequate description of the artist's destiny. Poetry, music, paintings and the other arts require a medium or a shaman, the artist, in order to be revealed to mankind. But inspiration hidden in drugs, alcoholic beverages or excess destroys the medium. So Morale is safe. Pretty sad but so is life.

A DVD for your library.

Summary: This Is an Inaccurate Movie
Review: Oliver Stone's portrayal of the Doors and Jim Morrison is extreme and in many cases untrue and exaggerated. He takes the events of the Doors and binds them into cliche rock band problems that never happened. The UCLA film by Jim Morrison was never that extreme, and there were a lot more inaccuracies in the movie. If you want a true account of the Doors, read Light My Fire by Ray Manzarek.
