Summary: Good....But Not Great...
Review: It's a very watchable movie, but tells little about what made Jim Morrison tick. Scenes where whe are supposed to get an idea of where Jim got his inspiration are VERY vaugue. Also (not to say Jim wasn't interesting enough for a film to focus on him - he was.) It hardly tells anything at all about the rest of the band. I have to admit, I did not know much about this band before seeing The Doors. But the soudtrack and concert scenes were MORE than enough to cinvince me to check out their music and get me hooked! ....A good flick, but I doubt it's any more then semi-ficticious at the least

Summary: Jim without soul!
Review: Good film from the USA, but this movie can't show the reasons! This film isn't include Jim's soul.

Summary: The best movie out there
Review: Val Kilmer does an excellent job. He is, however, wrong when he requested to sing all of the parts. Val Kilmer is not Jim Morrison, nor is he justified in singing any Morrison lyrics without even a vauge knowledge of what Jim Morrison was like.Other than that, it was the best movie I've ever seen.

Summary: It was OK, but...
Review: I have read about a dozen books on The Doors. Needless to say they are one of the GREATEST bands ever to enter the human ear. In fact, I personally, believe they are the GREATEST band ever (Yes, even better than the Beatles), so I'd have to say the movie was not what it should have been. The Doors were art. The movie was not. The movie prefered to concentrate on the (semi-fiction) "antics" of a mentally unbalanced Jim Morrison, instead of the poetic side. Also the movie did not live up to it's own title! It's called "The Doors," not "The life and times of Jim Morrison!" It should have concentrated on the band more (not to say Jim was not a very interesting person...HE WAS!!!) Anyhow, other than a few lies (ok, more than a few) it's overall an entertaining movie. Watch it for Val Kilmer as Jim (EXCELLENT performance!!), watch it for the WONDERFUL concert scenes, and watch it for the great soundtrack, but don't count on a truthful account of the greatest band EVER!

Summary: It could have been so much better!
Review: Oliver Stone should really give up making movies about history. I never wanted to see this movie, but when you end up in a video store where you've seen nearly everything...that's about the only way you'd pick this one up.

I think Val Kilmer did an alright job, but everyone else seemed to be portraying some cartoon of who they thought the people were.

I am a Doors fan from childhood (had a lot of older brothers), so I wish the movie hadn't been made because people that don't care about Jim Morrison's memory will just believe that's how it really happened. For those of us who care, we only need to hear the music.

Watch the movie, but realize their life wasn't about drugs and getting out of control. That was a consequence of Fame.

Summary: Excellent! One of Stone's best works.
Review: In my opinion, One of Oliver Stone's best works. He chronicles the hedonistic excesses of one of rock's most misunderstood icons, while never glamorizing them. The acting, photography, and music are dead-on perfect, creating a hallucinatory view of the period... and the man. I give this film the highest possible rating. Stone is a genius, and here, it shows.

Summary: This movie RULZ
Review: One can not go through life conciously avoiding this movie! This movie is a life story of modern history's greatest poet/songwriter. Oliver Stone at his best, Val kilmer playing the role of Jim Morrison brilliantly. This is not another tale of a god like hero, it is a tale of life and death of a man, who in my opinion means more to the music of today than Mozart.

Summary: Engrossing yet ultimately flawed film
Review: Sure, the average viewer is not likely to turn off the tv from boredom while watching Oliver Stone's "The Doors." Yet, the average viewer is not likely to believe that this is a great - nor even rather good - film, either.

What are the film's good or great points? On the "great" side is the Doors' music - the classics come alive here very well. Though, the glory in reference to the music goes to Morrison and the Doors, not Stone. The other great point is Val Kilmer's potrayal of Morrison - he deserved an oscar nomination(did he get one?). He was great. The supporting cast is decent, too - especially Kathy Quinlen. On occasion, the film can be entertaining. The crew's early gigs are especially fun to see.

Yet, on the lousy side, on occassion, Stone probes so deep into Morrisson's alleged ugly life that the film becomes ugly itself - so ugly that its stature goes down. At times, it's almost unbearable! Also, the film is highly depressing. The film also suffers from a lack of a total agenda. At one moment we see the band's sexual excesses. At another moment we see the band's drug excesses. At another we see Morrisson's strange religious side. At another we see Morrisson's strange alcoholic binge, or his stomach overkill, etc. etc. Also disapointing is Meg Ryan. She does very little for the movie. Her character is walked upon and she did not stand up for herself!

Why did Stone even make this film? Why uplift such a rather ugly and raunchy character such as this? What does this give to us as a society except knowing that such a scum bag(with all due respect...)existed? Sure, he was a genius in many ways - yet - he is not a good movie character. Nobody cares!

All in all, "The Doors" is nto your typical Oliver Stone movie - it's not really good. I'd recommend it to Doors fans, and to those who enjoy Stone's usual crazy movie antics. But to others, I'd recommnend that they simply buy the soundtrack and enjoy the classics.

Summary: THE LIZARD KING IS BACK
Review: THIS IS AN EXCELLENT REPRESENTATION OF THE DOORS STRUGGLE INTO THE LIME LIGHT AND THEN JIM MORRISON'S DEMISE AND THE EVENTUAL COLLAPSE OF THE DOORS. EVERYTIME THAT I WATCH THIS MOVIE I PICK UP SOMETHING NEW. VAL KILMER CATCHES THE ESSENCE OF JIM MORRISON AND OLIVER STONE DIRECTS AN AWESOME FILM. A MUST SEE FILM FOR ANY LOVER OF CLASSICAL ROCK AND ROLL. WHEN THE DOORS OF PERCEPTION ARE CLEANSED, EVERYTHING IS SEEN AS IT IS.....INFINITE!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: WOW!
Review: How can I be the first one to place this review?? It's '99! Any ways, this movie is an absolute must for any DOORS fan or for any other movie goer who knows doesn't know much about the DOORS. Val Kilmer is outstanding and unbelievable. The music is great and the quality of video is excellent (it's THX mastered- i don't think it said that on the Amazon review, but that doesn't mean as much as it does with receivers or DVD-players)
