Summary: Fatally flawed
Review: Great dancing, terrific music, splendid show overall, BUT the film editor had apparently never seen a mixing board before, and was so captivated by this new toy that the video is a choppy nightmare that jumps from shot to shot every three or four seconds. It's hard to keep track of what the dancers are doing, who's who or even where they are. The end result is as enervating as watching TV while the remote is in the hands of someone who switches channels every three seconds. It was with some regret (for the good bits) that I dropped this tape in the Goodwill box after one watching, but I knew I'd never sit through it again for anything.

Review: I bought this video while I was in England and was sooo disappointed when I found out PAL tapes didn't play in American VCRs. It's a terrific show and I highly recommend it.

Summary: okay for some, not an instruction video
Review: I caught a preview of the video at Walmart and the dancing looked fast paced and exciting so I bought the VHS from Borders Books and Music and took it home. The first viewing was great (but the sexiness of some of the dancing, costumes, and themes caught me off guard), rate almost 5 stars for initial impact. The second viewing I tried to watch the steps of each dance, but the video isn't intended for that, rate about 3 starts. By the third viewing, I've decided this is for those who love the theatrics of dance and performance, rate 4 starts. If you like stage shows, this is excellent. The performers should get 10 stars each. If you want to learn something about dance, then it is best to concentrate on the excellence of each dancer (facial expressions, body moves, athletecism, stanima, how pairs move together), rather than trying to observe steps because the camera angles change TOO MUCH for that...each viewing gives me headaches in certain sections, rate 1 star. Maybe the younger generation can handle the constant change from zoom-ins, zoom-outs, moving and flashing lights, view from above, view from eye level, view from the floor, slow motions then regular speed...but for me it's too much. While editing is well done and blends well, the overall impression for me is the video is very busy. I didn't like the beginning. I do enjoy the costumes, story lines, dancer interaction, and music selections. Latin, smooth, swing, boogie, it's all there. There's some sections where I just want to get up and dance because the energy is infectious; other parts I'd rather skip over. Overall, I'm glad I got the video for my home library.

Summary: Sexy and Fun
Review: I guess it helps that they used two of my favorite songs, the Carousel Waltz and Let's Face the Music. Overall I found this a very enjoyable dance performance.My one quibble would be with the editing. In some of the numbers the cuts are too quick and jumpy so that you don't really see what's going on. I'd also have to fault them for playing favorites with some of the dancers. In what is meant to be ensemble dance, some couples are featured repeatedly while others barely get a single close-up Still, I've watched it a dozen times already. It's great for aerobics.

The costuming, sets, lighting and dancing are quite fine and the choreography is....spectacularly unimaginative...I kept waiting to see SOMETHING that was remotely compelling and creative and the "techno" dance sequence came closest to providing that. Everything else, however, seemed to be a process of finding a movement and repeating it ad naseaum. Watch Bob Fosse's choreography for "Sing, Sing, Sing" sometime and compare.

Review: I saw Burn the Floor on PBS and was mesmerized. I'm thinking of flying to LA to see the show live. I sat and shook my head in disbelief at the energy these dancers have. The variety was wonderful. Makes you want to take a couple of dance lessons. UNREAL!

Review: I saw this on PBS before I bought it so I new what to expect, the costumes are fun where called for and beautiful or imaginitive where they should be, the dancing varies from Ballroom to Modern to interpritive Jazz, and is performed in spectacular style, it is hard to reconcile some of the negative reviews with what I see on this DVD, however if you are expecting Ballroom dancing as you would see it on PBS, or the Ballroom competicions on cable channels, you will be disapointed, if you like spectacular Theater you will love it.

Review: I think this video is amazing! I saw the show live (which everyone should see!), and thats where I bought the video. That was about 3 days ago, and I've watched it about 50 times. I think all the rewindin is going to ware it out. Its sexy, and beautiful. Its in no way an instructional video, its entertainment. If you love to see people dance, this is the #1 movie to get! Its awesome!

Summary: absolutely wonderful!!!
Review: I'm a fan of ballroom dancing, and I bought this DVD because, well, it's about ballroom dancing!!! All the performances are really fun, there is no question about the dancers' skills, the choreography, their costumes, and the stage setup. My favorite part of the show is the Finale (Hot), oh my, the whole arrangement is wonderful!!! There really is no sufficient word to describe the show, but if you like ballroom and latin, I would recommend buying this one.
