Michael Flatley - Feet of Flames

Summary: An embarassment to all involved!
Review: As I watched this video, I wondered what, if anything, this was supposed to have to do with Ireland. At first, I thought that Flatley had created a new form of dance that had been adapted for the stage, and I was all right with that. Later, though, Ireland is blatantly exploited just to get more cheers. Really--a three-tier stage in white, green and orange? As a traditionally trained competitive Irish dancer, I can tell you that Flatley is not the god he thinks he is. I saw more impressive feats at my last competition, and those by twelve-year-olds! If Bernadette Flynn would break away from Flatley and start her own dance troupe, I would be in the front row every time. Her technique and style are perfection itself. Flatley, though, has gotten sloppy. Most of the time he isn't even on his toes, a must for Irish dance. Another thing that very much bothered me was the fact that he took a traditional Shaker hymn and turned it into a Vegas-type theme. Although I do not belong to that particular religion, I happen to know that the song refers to Jesus Christ as the lord of the dance. Does Flatley think he's the Messiah?

Summary: Absolutely the highest energy entertainment I have seen
Review: I have seen the other two performances by Michael Flately and thinking there would be no outdoing each I was just absolutley overwhelmed with Feet of Flames. I cannot imagine what went into the production of such a performance. This is just a must for any video collection.

Review: First saw this show on PBS. Had to have my own copy. My only regret is that I did not see this show in person. The energy of Michael Flatery and his group is a joy to watch.

Review: His best yet, and I loved Lord of the Dance. This is better, as it fleshes out LOTD (saw the show when they were in Johannesburg). Of course this is about Michael Flatley - who else can dance like that?? Don't miss it.

Summary: Personally, I don't care for it.
Review: As a competitive Irish dancer, I just can't get into this show. Michael Flatley, although he has brought some degree of awareness to Irish dancing (not without the help of others, however), has at the same time turned this wonderful art form into a slick, Las Vegas-type revue. The costumes (or lack thereof), the hairdos, new arm movements - it all makes for an interesting expedition into what Irish dancing could, but hopefully will not, become, but personally, I don't care for it.

Review: Okay, I am an Irish dancer, and I'll admit it - I love Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, so I decided to watch Feet of Flames. Now, mind you, I'm not a big fan o'Flatley, but I thought - what the heck! I can honestly say, this show is the singular most horrendous abomination of dancing I have ever seen. It is little more than a showcase for Michael Flatley's ego. His dancing much more closely resembles tap rather than Irish - no crossing of the feet, swinging arms, etc. He doesn't even dance in this show - he stands in front of the line of hardworking troupe dancers, bumping and grinding. He twirls his flute like a baton. The girls in "Breakout" wear mock feis costumes (sleeveless, no less) - cute, until they strip to unflattering black sports bras & pantyhose. Gillian Norris wears a red catsuit with red ghillies. Bernadette Flynn dances the traditional set dance "King of the Fairies" in a white sequined halter top and a tiny black skirt. At one point, Michael even bumps and grinds it with one of the fiddlers (who is wearing some sort of latex bodysuit...) Need I say more? I recommend renting this video if and only if you need a good laugh!

Summary: Feet of Flames is too hot to handle
Review: Watching Feet of Flames and seeing Michael Flatley proform his magic was absoulutly breathtaking. It was bigger and better than ever. It was a wonderful way for him to go out with a bang as he is retiring. I loved it and I recommend it to everyone from those who are just learning about the Lord of the Dance and Michael Flatley, to the avid fan. It made me tap my feet more than once.

Summary: A Singular Sensation
Review: Here is Lord of the Dance raised to the 110th Power. Not only do Michael Flatley and his troupe of 100 Irish dancers outdo themselves with precision and artistry, there is the music of Ronan Hardiman, the songs of Anne Buckley and most memorably, the flute of Michael Flatley. And with his solo, called Feet of Flames, he proves to all that he IS the greatest dancer in the world. In his last performance as the Lord of the Dance, he gives his heart to the audience and they give him theirs in return. Breathtaking and full of joie de vivre, this is a not-to-be-missed video.
