Summary: Greatmusic, good show Worth seeing for Coleen Sexton
Review: Although David Hasselhoff's acting can be laugh-out-loud funny a times, the show itself is pretty good. There are some incredible songs: Someone Like You, In His Eyes, A New Life. If I could only give you one reason to see this video, it's because of Coleen Sexton's unforgettable performance as Lucy Harris. She is one of the most talented people I've ever seen. She is way better than Linda Eder from the original cast. All of her songs are the high points in the show, the parts you won't want to stop watching. The rest of the show is alright. If you're into Broadway, I'd say this is worth seeing.

Summary: I WAS SHOCKED!!
Review: WELL WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT THE KNIGHT RIDING BAY WATCHER COULD ACT AND SING. I HAVE TO SAY HE DID IMPRESS ME, ESPECIALLY FROM PAST STARS WHO TRIED TO MAKE IT ON BROADWAY AND FAILED. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT SHOW IN ALL. I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT THE FABULOUS COLEEN SEXTON WAS AMAZING IN IT. THE FIRST TIME I HEARD HER VOICE WAS WHEN I HAPPEN TO CATCH THIS SHOW ON HBO. EVER SINCE THAT I HAVE BEEN INFATUATED WITH HER. SHE IS AMAZING!! WHAT A POWERFUL VOICE, NOT TO MENTION VERY PRETTY. IN RESPONSE TO KIM FROM CHICAGO REVIEW ( THE LAST REVIEW ON THIS PAGE). I THINK COLEEN DID NOT HAVE A NASAL VOICE, SHE WAS PERFECT. ITS CALLED POWER NOT NASAL. IF ANYONE PURHCASES THIS VIDEO I HAVE TO SAY SHE SOUNDED GREAT WHEN SHE SANG BEAUTIFULLY" NO BODY KNOWS.. NOT EVEN YOU.. NO ONE KNOWS WHO I," ITS BEAUTIFUL!! YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER AS WELL.

Summary: Best show!!
Review: I don't know why anyone would hate this dvd so much. This is such a good show. Go easy on David Hasslehoff please! He's a very good actor, and I don't know how he's able to do CONFRONTATION without passing out.
Then there's Coleen Sexton as Lucy Harris, one word POWERFUL!!! She can certinally belt and SOMEONE LIKE YOU and A NEW LIFE are such memborable songs cuz
1. They'revery well written
2. They're well sung
Then there's Andrea Rivette as Emma Carrew, Jekyll's fiancce. She has a beautiful voice and ,I know as a singer it's very hard to hit a high note like that, and shows no sign of straining in ONCE UPON A DREAM.
Perhaps IN HIS EYES is my favorite song because it has Coleen Sexton and Andrea Rivette singing in it. Then again, who wouldnt' love to hear a song where the 2 best actresses and singers in the show are singing together.
I'm a kid and I love this show. I've been raised watching and listening to shows like THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and LES MISABLES so maybe thats why I didn't find this one bit disturbing, but for any kids who like a dramatic musical, thats so darn membroable, ask for this dvd.
JEKYLL & HYDE is now my one of my favorite musicals, and I'm working on a website for it.

Summary: Ridiculous stinker
Review: I own this on VHS. Being a long-time fan of the musical, I was looking forward to having a live version in my possession. I've always found David Hasselhoff to be fairly inoffensive and a competent actor, but I'd never heard him sing, but I figured hey if he's a huge international pop star I'm sure he'll be fine.

Boy, was I wrong. David H. CAN. NOT. SING. He's painful to listen to, having NO vibrato whatsoever, and he overacts and mugs his way through this sheer, unadulterated [music]. I couldn't even sit through the entire thing in one sitting, it was that embarrassing and bad. I can't say enough about how horrible David H. is, especially compared to his Broadway predecessor who is a fine and lyrical tenor.

I don't even know where to start with what's wrong with this [weak] production. Well, I guess the producers felt the cast would carry this production (HA! HA! HA!) so most of the set looks as though it were done in crayon. From its lifeless, nasal Lucy (with whom David H. has NO CHEMISTRY) to its frighteningly homely and simpering Emma, the supporting cast fairs no better. ...

Summary: it wasn't that bad
Review: Oh dear, where should I begin? David Hasselhoff is not an old fashioned Broadway singer and yes, This Is the Moment is painfully and obviously too much for him to handle. That song requires a voice that has been through years of vocal training and powerful range. David doesn't have that but what he did do, he did rather well. He can't do an English accent and he seemed like he was having a hard time getting into being Henry Jekyll but he made an interesting Hyde.

Now, for the ladies. The actress portraying Emma was adequate. The young lady portraying Lucy was pretty good as a poor man's version of Linda Elder. Would I see this cast in person? No way, but if you've never seen Jekyll and Hyde before and if you know you will never see a real Broadway show anytime soon, and IF you are a Hasselhoff fan then you'll enjoy this version of Jekyll and Hyde.

Summary: Does not do justice to this musical
Review: I originally saw Jekyll & Hyde when it first was created here in Houston and have seen it live several times, before and after it went to Broadway and it is my all-time favorite musical, bar none.
So, even though this production had none of the cast I had seen, I figured the musical was so awesome that it would be good regardless.
Well, I was wrong. The songs I loved are there, but this cast doesn't begin to hold a candle to the ones I had seen live and David Hasselhoff is terrible. And the girl playing Lucy can't begin to hold a candle to Linda Eder, who I saw originally create the role. I could barely finish watching it.
Don't waste your money. Instead buy the CD of the original cast and just imagine the visuals in your head.

Summary: Can we please go easy on Mr. Hasselhoff
Review: I am a major fan of the Jekyl and Hyde story, as well as the musical and let me tell you, that performance by David Hasselhoff was pretty damn good in my opinion. He gave it his absolute all, and impressed me which is not easy. I think people are a lot harder on him because of his past in the 80's and early 90's which makes him an easy target. All I'm gonna say is unless you can do it better than perhaps you should ease up. I personally loved it and would highly recommend it. Just remember when you watch it don't watch it with the notion that David Hasselhoff is in it so therefore it's stupid. Instead, objectively, just give it a chance.

Summary: A Disappoint Version
Review: I have been the fan of "Jekyll and Hyde" & Frank Wildhorn since I first heard the concept album of the "J&H" with Colm Wilkson & Mrs Wildhorn, and I do have all three of the recording of "J&H", 'Pimpernal", and "The Civil Wars".

Back to the DVD, although most of the cast beside "David Hasselhoff" is quite well perform (but it been a very long time since he did musical when he is a child actor), I have to say the down side of this production are the stage direction and the design of the stage, it is not as good as Les Miserable (both in the transiation and the layout). I personal think if this two elements can be redesign it well be a wonderful play, it is really far far from what I image as I listern to the concept album with Anthoy Warlow.

There is also since to be some problem with the recording, somtime the sound of the singer just disppear somewhere.

However if you are like me as the die hard fan for "J&H" and Frank Wildhorn, this is a must have DVD for the musical collection.

Summary: DEAR GOD
Review: I saw this musical when it came out on Broadway originally and was struck dumb by how incredible it was. Then, to see it on HBO with David Hasselhoff... I was horrified. First of all, the man can't act and who was drunk when they cast him?! He butchers an incredibly rich and emotional roll, a roll that needs a more accomplished actor who knows how deep Jekyll and Hyde's duel roll is. His jerky and bulging-eye crazy man act for the last scene of the battle of Jekyll and Hyde murders a wonderfully rich song...

For anyone who wants to get to know this musical? Get the original cast recording. SKIP THIS DVD.

Summary: This was too painful to watch. Don't!!!
Review: Simply put, I couldn't finish watching this horror of a production. None of the acting (especially that moron Hasselhoff), none of the singing (of particular note, the poor child who had to follow the amazing voice that belongs to Linda Eder), nothing could compare with the Broadway production and it was just awful. Thankfully, I was watching it for free on TV. If I had actually spent money buying this movie, I would have found a way, anyway to return it and get my money back. Words cannot describe how terrible this was.
