Review: I ran to buy this DVD, after I saw Hugh Jackman's AMAZING performance in "The Boy From Oz".
Couldn't wait to see it and I surely wasn't disappointed, of course ! It's absolutely superb production !
I loved everything about it !
Hugh and Shuler are simply brilliant.
For me, it was so much better, than the 1955 film version, the chemistry between Curly and Laurie is electrifying here !
I grew up on the classical Hollywood musicals and so happy, that after I saw The Boy From Oz, Oklahoma! and Chicago, I beleive that musicals are back, big time !Hughly, oh excuse me...highly recommended

Review: I recently saw this on television, and ever since, my sisters and I have been singing the songs and recalling our favorite parts. Truely a success, Oklahoma is a movie for all ages. "People Will Say We`re in Love" and "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" are absolutly superb along with so many other songs. Hugh Jackman does an excellent and unbeatable job as Curly. Aunt Eller is hillarious as well as Ado Annie`s "I cain`t say no" problem. Scenes with Jud Fry and Curly keep you on the edge of your chair. Plus,the many pieces with Curly and Laurie are funny and very cute. I would immediatly recommend this movie without hesitation.

Summary: Absolutely terrific!!
Review: I saw a little bit of this production of Oklahoma! on PBS and was instantly hooked! I had to run out the next day and purchase a copy so I could see the entire play. It is absolutely terrific! Hugh Jackman is awesome as Curly and Josefina Gabrielle is wonderful as Laurey. Shuler Hensley brings a sympathy-inducing tone to the character of Judd (something I never felt for Judd in previous productions). This is so different from any other Oklahoma! that I have seen. And I love it!
I was really surprised that there wasn't a "Dream Curly" or "Dream Laurey." When I watch the movie (which I also love), I almost always fast-forward the dream sequence. I found that I just didn't care about the "Dream Curly" or the "Dream Laurey" because it was two different actors from the originals. It ruined the continutity. But, when I saw that the two originals were doing their own dancing in this production, I wanted to watch. I thought "Wow, they can dance too!" I was very impressed. It makes me wish that I could have seen it live on stage. But then you'd have to give up all of the close-ups of Hugh Jackman!

Review: I saw the broadway production which is similar to this, and i must say wow! I own the london 1998 cd and i must say wow. the show has great singing, orchestrations, acting, dancing and sets. i can't wait till i can buy it or see it on PBS.

Review: i saw the film version of "OKLAHOMA" and i must say that this theatrical production is better than the movie itself. for one thing, hugh jakcman is better to listen to and look at. the choreography is next to brilliant and the ensemble cast is superb.
there were songs that were not shown in the film, i guess, for time constraint..
this theater production is long, 3 hours, but you'll never be bored.
and yes, mind you, hugh jackman can sing!

Summary: This "Oklahoma!" is not OK!
Review: I saw this drab, dusty over-hyped London version of "Oklahoma!" on PBS. Outside of Tony-Award and Olivier-Award winner Shuler Hensley's superior realization of the role of Judd Fry, I have to say this version of "Oklahoma!" was a letdown. If this London version desired any claim on authenticity, Trevor Nunn should not have stopped with the music score or a dusty set. He should have moved on to perfect the cast's delivery of the dialog and comedy. The comedic timing of the dialog in the London version was terribly off. The peddler, Ali, just wasn't that funny in the London version--although he performed a song not done in the 1955 film version. The Persian good-bye kiss was remarkably humorless. Neither did Ado Annie's comedy leap off the screen the way Gloria Graham's 1955 portrayal did. The Aunt Eller portrayal also lacked the necessary comic timing even on such easy laugh-getting lines as, "Let's not break the law; let's just bend it a little." Without a well-timed drawl, these words lack attitude and humor. The dialect of the non-American actors and actresses made me cringe . . . a lot! I'm from the Red River region of Oklahoma and Texas and I've seen my share of "Oklahoma!" productions in Oklahoma and in Texas. Was a dialect coach consulted? The offglides for dipthongs were wrong in this version--moreso in the spoken lines than in the singing. A casual drawl is essential to a play set in Oklahoma. I believe I mentioned "drab" earlier. The Todd-AO film technique used for filming the 1955 version was a feast for the eyes. Not so in the dusty London version. Who watches musicals for THAT kind of realism? The shots of the audience applauding in between scenes broke any sense of dramatic continuity. Gertie's laugh was horrendous--and not in an entertaining way, either. Buy this version only if you want to hear the way Rodgers originally conceived the orchestration. Buy it for Shuler Hensley as Judd Fry. Even though the 1955 Jones-MacRae version may not be 100% faithful to the way Rodgers originally wrote "Oklahoma!", I prefer it in its technicolor splendor; and Jones and MacRae's versions of Oklahoma dialect at least doesn't make me cringe. The London version of "Oklahoma!" is not OK.

Summary: A true spectacle!
Review: I skipped OK-l-a-h-o-m-a (!) during its Broadway run, because it's just not my kind of musical; but, when I heard that the London revival production was to be released on DVD, I pre-ordered it immediately, and waited patiently for its arrival - after several delays with the planned release date. I just watched it, and was completely floored with the production. I really wish they would archive more musical theater in this fashion. The camera work is superb, the sound is excellent, terrific all-around acting, superior direction, and the list goes on and on. It's really not much of a "moving" sort of musical, but the production value and staging make up for all that. Don't forget to watch the 2nd DVD first, which is "the making of. . ." Unless you insert the disc, nowhere on the cover is one told that the second disc is a brief documentary. This DVD set is true value-for-money, and deserves to be in the ranks of the best musical theater productions ever captured on film. . . a truly wonderful and rewarding experience all in all.

Review: I was absolutely blown away by this production of Oklahoma! I was never a fan of this musical and somehow Trevor Nunn's production has brought a new prespective to me. I saw it on Sunday night and bought the DVD on Monday. Hugh Jackman is fantastic as Curly. He took this part and ran with it all the way to Oklahoma! I forgot that I was watching a British production without a trace of an Australian or English accent. I totally recommend this for any fan of Rogers and Hammerstein musicals.

I've followed perhaps every version of each of these that have been recorded and NONE surpass this version of Oklahoma. I was completely unaware it existed until a few weeks ago. I had just been blown away by the incredible performance Hugh Jackman gives in the current production of BOY FROM OZ. Coming home from NYC, I perused what other musicals he might have done and found this one. I ordered it immediately and have watched it over and over. What a joy!! Now I feel that the one improvement to the movie CHICAGO would have been casting Hugh Jackman in the role that went to Richard Gere ... then that role too would have won an Academy Award. It is a true pleasure to be living at a time when there is an actor capable of bringing new life to Rogers & Hammerstein. There has never been a better Curly. Jackman brings highest quality to everything he appears in, perhaps the finest performer of our era! This is an exceptional production and will be on my gift list to ALL MY FRIENDS this year.
