Description:
Only time will tell whether Canadian Aselin Debison will grow, as predicted, into "the next Celine Dion." But this PBS concert/documentary shows her developing momentum toward that goal. She has become a show-biz veteran, though her voice is still developing. She has been in the spotlight for a third of her life since her impromptu debut at age 8, singing at a demonstration for miners in Nova Scotia. A film clip shows her at that event, awesomely cute. She has replaced some of that cuteness with a precocious maturity, a budding professionalism that has not damaged her freshness and spontaneity. The music in this very professional production nearly duplicates that on her first CD, but the visuals are a substantial bonus. She is shown walking on a beach, playing basketball, harmonizing with her dog on "Over the Rainbow," and mingling with the neighbors on Cape Breton Island who seem to have made her a kind of icon. --Joe McLellan
