Rating: Summary: Bad day for Mike Mainieri's fans Review: Beware Mike Mainieri's fans, this DVD contains only 3 tracks of this master vibraphone player, the majority of music material (5 tracks) belongs to less known Richie Cole. While Mike's playing is superb, backed up by great musicians (Eddie Gomez, Bob Mintzer...) I suppose it's not worthed $25 to Mike's fans.
Rating: Summary: Not Exactly As Described Review: I have to agree with the first reviewer. Because I happen to LOVE this band I gave it a slightly higher rating. First of all, the tunes listed aren't even the tunes performed on this DVD. The same situation exists on "Jazz Legends Vol.2" which is the same performance as on this DVD, mistitled tunes and everything. I own the "Live at Seventh Ave. South" CD (a fine audio representation of this gig) as well as a video taped copy of this show that was shown on A&E in the mid-eighties. Both of these are COMPLETE performances and illustrate how much we're shortchanged in these back-to-back "Jazz Legends" offerings. The songs performed are: "Crossed Wires", "Flying Colours", "Song for Seth" and "Tee Bag". Missing are: "Sara's Touch", "Bamboo" and "Bullet Train" which are the tunes listed on BOTH DVDs. A disgraceful production and an injustice to such a musically superior group. I don't mean to slight Richie Cole (this DVD) or Art Blakey (Vol.2) but it was a COMPLETE set of Mike Mainieri that I was trying to obtain.
