Rating: Summary: Magic Night in the Magic City Review: It was my privilege to be at this concert the night it was recorded - on the occasion of my 50th birthday. At a point in life where birthdays are sometimes not exactly joyful - this was a celebration supreme. In addition to the artists mentioned in the Editorial Review, Claudio Roditi, Dave Samuels, Nestor Torres, Steve Turre, and Jeff Ballard added their artistry to the ensemble. A true all-star line-up, but with no spotlight-hogging ego displays. These masters melted their collective talents into a seamless virtuoso musical tapestry, stepping out to take their respective solos only as needed to put the full magic into the music. The concert was dedicated to Tito Puente, who was scheduled to appear, but was terminally ill and passed on soon after the event. A highlight of the show was the heartfelt "Medley Para Tito" - concluding with a blistering rendition of Oye Como Va that Santana himself could deeply appreciate. The show concluded with a rousing rendition of the theme from I Love Lucy - somewhere Desi (a Miami High graduate) is smiling. This DVD captures most of the show's highlights with very good sound and visuals. Sadly missing was Chick Corea's "Origin" section. The passion, energy, talent, and fun of this concert are hotter than a Miami August afternoon, and guaranteed to melt the ice off any and all snowbirds. If you can't make it south, this concert will give you an excellent taste of the tropics.
Rating: Summary: There goes Credibility for Concord picante Review: The production work on this DVD is appropriate for the nineteen-seventies. I was really excited to get the DVD, as I have the CD under the same name. Unfortunately, the DVD has one LESS song!! The fifth track from the CD, "Wigwam", isn't on the DVD! Unbelievable!!! Don't get me wrong, I was very excited to see some of these guys on DVD. However, with terrible graphic production, one less song than the CD and absolutely NO extras, this DVD is a no-buy if you were considering it. The only exception is for those who cannot live without seeing the all-star lineup. However, there are no interviews, no commentaries, nothing--just the music, cheap graphic production and one track missing. Again, I say unbelievable!!

Rating: Summary: Simply AMAZING! Review: This is a "must have" DVD if you are into Jazz or Latin music. The best of the best musicians of the world playing together. You MUST get this DVD!
Rating: Summary: For Serious Fans Review: This is not a cheap imitation. As many of you will know, Latin Jazz comes from New York (mostly) in the early to mid part of the 20th Century. It does not derive from Salsa. It also is not the same as Cuban music, so shouldn't be compared with the Buena Vista Social Club. This DVD is quite excellent musically. The graphics and production are not the best. It's very annoying that the CD by the same name has one track the DVD does not have. Shame on Concord picante! The use of seashells by Steve Turre is not a novlety. He plays them musically and superbly. If you've never seen him live, you ought to. He's incredible!! Too bad the producers didn't get the full performance on DVD. Still, I wouldn't miss the chance to see Dave Valentin, Dave Samuels, Chick Corea, Arturo Sandoval, Steve Turre, Oscar D'Leon, and so many, many more in live performance. Very good stuff!
