Summary: Entertaining
Review: Not as good as the original production and lacking Michael Flatley, this is still a well put together production with some new material.

Summary: This video is the best.
Review: I loved this video. If you have seen Riverdance before, then you won't be disappointed and if you have never seen Riverdance, then after seeing this video you will want to watch again and again. I would give this video 5 stars but the editing can be confusing at times. The content definitely deserves 5 stars but the editing isn't. The original Riverdance video is better in that respect because it seemed like you were watching the show live. But R2 seems more like a movie or taped production. The dancing is first rate. I had never seen or really heard of Irish step dancing before Riverdance and now I love it. There are also other types of dance that should please everyone. I highly recommend this to anyone. You will not be disappointed. END

My God, this is better than the first...a classic...

Thanks, RIVERDANCE! ;)

Summary: Beautiful event.....wonderful music
Review: Riverdance...the live show in New York was wonderfully done...and the music was superb......I rate it an 8 only due to the fact that I saw Lord Of The Dance and noticed that Riverdance Live at New York did quite a few similar things in their production, so it almost seemed as if they were trying to compete with Lord of The Dance, and not just putting out their own wonderful Irish Dancing production. Still, it was highly entertaining and well worth purchasing to view over and over again. Especially if you are a fan of Irish Dance. END

Summary: This isn't Riverdance! Don't Bother!
Review: I purchased Riverdance live in from NYC because I wanted to check out the extra 45min of footage. But, as the other reviews warned me the filming process was a complete disaster! If you like feeling like your watching a show from the very back row, than this ones for you! Buy the original Riverdance filmed in Ireland. That is the only true classic!!!

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I first saw Riverdance on PBS and it was this Version... my sister and I loved it. My father came home one day with the VHS and we used to dance around the house in my mother's high heeled shoes. It has been watched thousands of times, we've had it since 1996. Now the kids that I baby-sit get dressed up and dance to it. It has been showing signs of age, the music is not as clear, the tracking constantly needs to be adjusted, and I dont mind. But for Christmas, my mother took it upon herself and bought me this dvd. I put it in my dvd player this morning and I was not pleased.
First of all, it is double sided, why?? I have m.f's gold collection and there are two shows on one side!!! why cant they fix this??????
Next, some of the pictures are out of focus, and it's not my player cause I had it in my other two and my neighbors.
Why can't I just have the same version I have on my vhs as my dvd?? Same picture, sound, the music over rides their taps in some scenes!
I dont know what the newer Radio City DVD is like, but I am not at all happy with this one!!!!

Summary: Overediting Destroys a Fabulous Show
Review: I loved Riverdance. I have seen it live twice. And every time I pull this DVD out and watch it, it makes me crazy. It is so over edited it is almost impossible to watch. There are far too many shots that are closeups of the dancers faces or long shots that are so far away the dancers are specs on the stage. In both cases you just can't see the dancing. I was so glad to read all the reviews that reaffirmed this view. I just wish I had read them beforehand. I don't know that it would have kept me from buying the DVD (I use it to listen to the music now), but at least I would have been prepared.

Summary: I Feel Guilty Giving It Less Than 5 Stars, But...
Review: I absolutely love Riverdance! I've seen it live 4 times. But for some unknown reason, they keep changing it and many of those changes are not for the better. Here goes:

1. Firedance is much better in it's original version where it's performed by a man and a woman.
2. I don't see why the Trading Taps needs to be included. However, this is not to say that the tappers are not incredibly talented, they're just not Celtic!
3. For the same reason I've never really liked the Russian Dervish dance!
4. I also don't care much for "Slip Into Spring."
5. And the original version of "Lift The Wings" is by far the best!
6. Colin Dunne is no Michael Flatly.

Now, for the two changes that are good.
1. The narration at the start the talks about The Sun! Yay Lugh!
2. The number called "Heartbeat Of The World." It's very good!

Summary: Flatley's Still the King. but...
Review: ...Colin Dunne doesn't upstage his co-preformers. True, I loved the original Riverdance with Flatley, but I think that in the original, his dancing was a few nothces above that of his co-preformers. He carried the entire production. Watch them both back to back and see what you think.

Maria Pages and Jean Butler must have just got better overtime, because they steal the show from Dunne. No knock on Dunne his dancing is great, but he doesn't have the on-stage presence of Flatley. It's the other dancers here who are worth the watch.

In the original Riverdance, Pages's feet are flat, thumpy and lag behind the beat sometimes. When Flatley came on to the screen, he just danced circles around her. She has developed wondefully as a dancer. Butler was a natural at the release of the original Riverdance, but she too seems to have become more confident and less mechanical. She is more graceful then ever here.

Furthermore, the NYC production has a big budget set and sound. The light show makes the original Riverdance look as though it was filmed in a converted high school gymnasium. The music is clearer in the NYC production and Celtic poetry is thrown in before each dance as punctuation.

I also hear a chorus of people saying that they do not like this DVD because of "technical" issues and I'm wondering if somehow a glitched batch of copies were released. The copy that I bought on Amazon in 2001 came packaged with a copy of Les Misrables. Both DVD's are flawless. The filmwork is excellent and the dancing and music are above par.
