Rating: Summary: A new standard for concert videos Review: I'm not going to add anything to the other reviews, about the quality of the music on this DVD. I would not have purchased it if I didn't already love Diana Krall. What I was totally unprepaired for was the quality of the production. I have been disappointed by concerts that are presented in full screen non-anamophic format. When I first popped this DVD into my player and it came on in anamophic widescreen with a DTS sound track, I new I had been given a treasure. The production values are also evident in the camera work and editing. I can only hope that every producer of concert videos be forced to watch this DVD before they start a project. Now that I have seen the best, I will be disappointed by anything less.
Rating: Summary: Good GOD! Get this DVD IMMEDIATELY! Review: I only want to add my voice to the rest of these reviewers in giving my highest recommendation to this INCREDIBLE recording of Krall's Paris concert. The opening rendition of "I Love Being Here With You" is worth the price by itself -- and it just gets better from there! It's amazing that a stage performance with a full orchestra, in front of a huge audience, could impart such an intimate, jazz-club-at-2 a.m. feel. Feel like you're seeing, hearing and feeling this magnificent performance in person. Get this DVD immediately!!!
Rating: Summary: Converted Review: This DVD came to my attention while I was out shopping for a new handheld computer. The electronics store had a surround sound setup in the back where the Diana Krall DVD was left on the menu with the first bars of 'Do it again' on a continuous loop. I was just blown away. The power of the arrangements, the expressivness of her voice and the whole vibe was something out of this world. If you're going to buy one music DVD in your life, let is be this one. You won't regret it. I ended up buying the Diana Krall DVD, the receiver, the speakers, the lot. I mean, who needs a handheld computer anyway?
Rating: Summary: I am speechless. Review: I always liked this type of music, but never really spent time listening to it except for special occasions. One day I did a search for top selling jazz albums and came across this one. After I watched it for the first time, I was taken through emotions I haven't felt for years. I felt like hugging my wife and dancing with her right there in my livingroom! This is purely magical in every sense of the word. Not only are the arrangements stellar, the individual performances will delight the most ardent jazz enthusiasts. I highly reccomend this.
Rating: Summary: Felt very slow Review: Caveat: I'm not into jazz. If you are, then probably just ignore this review. I thought I should listen to this concert since it gets such a high rating. I felt that the concert really dragged. I couldn't wait till it was over. The 5.1 sound mix is well recorded. I just couldn't get into this kind of music. I also watched the Norah Jones Live in New Orleans concert. That's jazz but I did find it very pleasing.
Rating: Summary: Excellent representation of live concert. Review: This DVD is amazing.. The DTS encoding is wonderfully crisp and really allows Diana's voice to shine through.. For anyone who doesn't know how good Diana Krall is, this DVD is certain proof. Live concert DVDs are rarely done as well as this, at least from a technical standpoint. I would say this is the BEST live concert DVD I own (I own quite a few). In fact I would go as far as to say it is my best music DVD. I fire this one up to demonstrate to my friends how good my setup is. I love it when the technology doesn't hinder the artist! Diana performs some of her best songs in this concert. As a bonus she sings a very personal song as an encore. It's wonderful and shouldn't be missed. There are a couple of bonus music videos included, but are just icing on the cake. Nothing compares to Diana performing live. This DVD comes as close as you'll ever get next to front row seats. Now if she can do the same thing for the rest of her songs because there are still a number of my favorite songs I would love to see her perform live, such as "When I close my eyes", or "Peel me a grape".. Oh well, I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too..
Rating: Summary: magic Review: Finally watched/listened to this last night in DTS on our new stereo theatre. O - M - G. It's best recording of Krall I've ever heard and I have all her cd's. If you love Krall and have a good stereo home theatre, get this dvd and pour yourself a glass of wine.
Rating: Summary: An outstanding showcase Review: Diana does great with all the members of the band, great production with good takes from the musicians and a very great atmosphere in the Olympia at Paris, Diana makes his best in artistry, I recomend this DVD if you like good, but I really mean good jazz!!!, a production that we don't see very often in this days, the sound quality is great with DTS encoding, also does justice in stereo mode, really a masterpiece of contemporary days with excellent quality.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling... Review: If you, like me, were disappointed with the last two recordings of Krall - the emphasis on strings and ballads and the de-emphasis on her piano playing, not to mention the dubious choice of many bland pop tunes she selected on the cds, then you absolutely must get this disc - it will restore your faith in her as an artist, the hype and marketing notwithstanding. Backed primarily by the trio of Anthony Wilson on guitar, John Clayton on bass and Jeff Hamilton on drums, Krall shows once and for all the great piano player that she is. Fan faves like East of the Sun, All or nothing, Deed I Do sound as good as ever and even the slower ballads that appear on the last two cds are brought to life on a concert stage. But the real highlights, for me, are the trio of songs - definitive versions of both Devil May Care and I Don't Know Enough About You, and the most soulful rendition of Joni Mitchel's A Case of You that I have heard which just might bring a tear to your eye as it did me. What you see on this disc is a great artist on the very top of her game. A keeper without a doubt.
Rating: Summary: The hottest female jazz performer on the scene today. Review: If you are a jazz fan, you will love this. If you are not a jazz fan, you will love this. Diana Krall is the premier female jazz performer on the scene today. Not only is she a great jazz pianist, this girl can flat sing. No, she is no Ella, but who is. The audio and video qualities of this dvd are superb as are her supporting cast, in particular: John Clayton, bass; Jeff Hamilton, drums and Anthony Wilson, guitar. This is a dvd you can put on for relaxing background music or you can turn it up a couple notches and make it the focus of attention. This is one of the top favorites in my dvd collection. You go girl.
