Summary: how to move your hands
Review: This is not,'how to play like me', (although aspects of that are always impossible to remove entirely), or even how to play any particular style of music, but 'how to successfully move your hands on a guitar'. This is a valuable approach for beginners, who might otherwise be overwhelmed, _and_ for experienced players who don't -want- to told what to play, just how to do what they do already, but better. The single line, arpeggio, and sweep-picking sections are much more elaborate than the fairly simple chordal segment, and for those who -do- want to sound like JP, a thorough covering of his equipment at the end. I've never seen the tape version, but the DVD is the most professionally produced instructional videos , on _any_ topic, that I've seen.

Summary: Very good prog metal guitar primer
Review: This is one of the best instructional videos I have ever seen. It has everything from hand exercises, to scalar techniques to increase speed. An all around well rounded video for people (especially intermediate to advanced) to master shred guitar. Highly recommended.

Summary: Gotta love that long hair!
Review: This video is helpful and instructive. But one of the stars is for Mr. Petrucci's fashion sense. His Ibanez guitars from back in the day are an abominable sight. How much would they fetch on e-bay, I wonder. Also, why do mucisians insist on wearing dark colored clothes with white hi-top sneakers? Thankfully, included in the dvd is a segment of Mr. Petrucci in the present, looking a sight better, with better looking guitars. As for this dvd, Petrucci shows off his technical proficiency and the wackiness of his alien finger stretches. Way to go!
