Summary: Highly recommend!
Review: I usually don't like excercise videos because the instructors are annoying and talk to much, but the NYC Ballet Workout is wonderful! It has left me with more strength and toned muscles, especially my legs and arms. I've also noticed my posture is better. I've seen a few reviews here complaining about not enough intruction being given...all you need to do is watch and follow what the dancers are doing. Thats the point of the video. The music is calming, and I always look forward to doing this workout. I took ballet when I was little, but barely remembered anything from it when I bought the tape. I found it was fairly easy to learn the positions, and after a few times, you will know exactly what the positions are called and how to do them. Don't be discouraged by the warm up segments, they are like little dance routines, but the rest is much more simple.

Summary: Want to return this
Review: I have purchased several excersice videos from Amazon, and this is the least favorite. I have taken ballet lessons, and learned the basics, yet stillI find instructions of this tape not informative enough. It tells what to do, but no specific explanation on how to do them right. It is in black and white, and very two dimentional. There's no encouragement, either. If you like ballet as I do, I'd assume you want to see the dancers in their most beautiful costumes and moves, right? If so, I don't recommend this. Instead I highly recommend Jennifer Kries's Pilates Target specifics. It is not ballet tape, but in one of four sections for thighs she uses ballet and she gives great instructions, encouragement, collors, and three-dimentional views.

Summary: Absolutely fantastic!
Review: The NYC Ballet Workout is excellent! The music was wonderfully chosen - both the classical and the contemporary options. The 4 dancers illustrating the moves are inspiring and I found it easy to follow. Mind you, not easy to do, not yet. I expect it to take a little time to develop my form and coordination but then those dancers didn't do it in a day either. Even so, the majority of the workout is easy to follow as long as you know that the dancers are working at their best form and you can do everything with smaller moves than theirs and work your way up to it - and this is also well explained in the booklet that comes with the DVD. The added features - the individual interviews with the 4 dancers are also inspiring. You find that, yes, they also have had hurdles to climb with physical challenges, illness, injury and so on. The interviews with Peter Martins and other individuals involved in the making of this DVD gave a lot of interesting background on the NYC ballet.

This DVD is beautifully done and the workout is challenging - not in a "jump up and down and go crazy" kind of way but in a way that works out the muscles with control, grace and a lot of hard work to reach your goal. And this workout is low impact - specially modified to take it easy on the joints and hips - a Good Thing.

Summary: Good WARM-UP, not workout
Review: There is almost too much space between "workout" segments--you're not working hard enough to need a break between segments. Does provide a great stretch and some challenging leg toning exercise. Great photography (except for when they occasionaly cut off the dancers' feet). Great music if you enjoy classical style.

Summary: Most fun tape I own
Review: I love doing this tape. I don't get bored with the exercises and the music and camera work is beautiful. The tape is 55 minutes long with both floor and standing work. It doesn't seem as though you are working very hard, but after you are done your muscles will say otherwise. I alternate this tape with running and it keeps my muscles flexible and strong.

Summary: Great workout
Review: This workout is very easy to follow. The moves may look easy at times but it's amazing the amount of control and strength that it takes to perform them correctly. After only a week I noticed significant improvements in my flexibility and general strength. It really works all the muscles and since each section varies from each other you can do this workout frequently without getting bored.

Summary: Good - But I wished for more
Review: For once here is a workout on video (DVD in this case) that I like and will probably keep up with. At the end I feel good and I throughly enjoyed myself. I have a dance background so picking up the movements was not too difficult for me but for beginners the instructional format could prove lacking and confusing. The flow of the workout is not very good either. I didn't like the choppy segmentation of the workout. I love the classical music, I haven't tried the contemporary music option yet. I love feeling graceful in my workout, but I did wish for more. The excercises could have gone on longer and I wished for more cardiovascular work to couple with the stretching and amazing ab work. Maybe some day they will make another more advanced edition and all my wishes will be granted. Till than I'll keep up with this and supplement it with other excercises.

Summary: AN NYC BALLET EGO STROKER
Review: It seems those who purchased the VHS copy have been pleased, which makes me wonder if the material is different on the video from the DVD. I purchased the DVD and hate it. I would agree with another reviewer that the DVD is a mess! If there's a workout on this DVD they sure made it difficult to find it. This DVD primarily focuses on the lives of the showcased dancers and that's it! It's a glamour shot for NYC ballet dancers and a very immodest ego puffer for them. I studied ballet for 8 years and really wanted a nice ballet workout. This doesn't work you out at all. There's a slightly nice ab workout but it's not long enough or repetitve enough to do any good. Ballet can be a wonderful workout as well as a calming and healing excercise. It's truly unfortunate that the NYC Ballet couldn't accomplish the task of promoting the many healthy benefits a person can gain from doing a ballet workout. Instead they improperly use it as a publicity effort to promote themselves. :(

Summary: get this tape today!
Review: beautifully done, wonderful music It makes you want to be a ballet dancer. Not all that jumping around and noise. if you want that go to a noisy gym. The movement made my body feel great. I alternate this tape with a pilates mat workout every other day. My only critisim is that it's a bit too long. I feel workouts at home should be one half hour to 45 minutes at the most. otherwise the tape is wonderful and the ballet dancers are great to watch. they really inspire you
