Summary: A Daydream of a DVD
Review: I've been a fan of this movie since it was originally broadcast on VH1 in June, 2000. When I heard it was being released on DVD, I couldn't believe it! Even though I've watched my own videotaped copy of the film many times, I knew I'd buy the DVD. Having viewed the entire package of goodies by now, I can wholeheartedly recommend it to any fan of the Monkees, as well as to fans of the movie and the actors who portrayed the Monkees (Aaron Lohr (Micky), L.B. Fisher (Peter), George Stanchev (Davy), and Jeff Geddis (Mike)). These four young men meshed together remarkably well as a dramatic team, and truly recreated the "Monkee magic".If you've never seen this movie and are a Monkees fan, don't miss it. It recaptures the fun and energy of the original Monkees tv show, and does a credible job of portraying the artistic conflicts that caused much internal discord between the Monkees, and led them to the decision to strike out on their own as a band and reject the creative control of music hit-maker Don Kirschner. The inclusion on the DVD of commentary by the REAL Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, Davy Jones, and director Neill Fearnley adds incredible energy to the experience of watching the film. And if you have favorite scenes you like to revisit, there is a scene index that makes finding that special favorite highlight a breeze. I would have bought the DVD for the scene index alone. Hey, hey, it's worth it! My only caveat about the film is that they removed snippets of two or three scenes to make the film more PG-13. But they added a little extra footage to a couple of other scenes, so all in all that is a minor complaint. I won't add any more detail to what has already been said in the previous reviewer's comments. (I found them a little too revealing, and was glad I'd already watched my DVD before I read them.)

Review: Los Monkees, si bien en Sudamerica no sobrepasaron nunca al fenomeno de The Beatles, en mas de alguien sembro la semilla de la duda, y, por cierto en mi caso lo hizo, desde hace un tiempo a esta fecha he coleccionado todo lo que tenga que ver con ellos y esta pelicula es un acercamiento intimo sobre la vida y origen de este "grupo", ademas de unas muy buenas entrevistas y comentarios por parte de los integrantes ( a exepcion de M. Nesmith). En resumen son 90 minutos que vuelan, mas que por su fluides, por abrirnos el espacio para conocer a estos jovenes que fueron valientes al enfrentar el desafio, al enfrentar a una generación que hablaba de paz amor y entendimiento....pero este último no fue aplicado a ellos. Exelente para fans iniciales y avanzados

Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed it
Review: Movie may not be 100% true and takes a few liberties but overall "Daydream Believers" is a fine tribute to a great, talented group of guys who were misunderstood and deserved better treatment at the time of their fame & popularity.
Best thing about the DVD, as others have mentioned, are the commentary and the excellent interviews with Mickey, Davey and Peter.
I personally found the movie to be fair to all the Monkees including Mike Nesmith (despite what others have said here).
Overall, if you're as into the Monkees as I am, you're probably gonna enjoy this movie - just don't take it too serious, ignore the untruths and enjoy it for what it is and not what it isn't.
Remember: Most movies made about real people are usually 50/50 on the truthometer when it comes to facts and realism. Re: Elvis the Movie, Oliver Stone's The Doors, oh and Spice World! (Just kidding!)...

Summary: HEY HEY IT'S THE MONKEES!
Review: Ok...so there's a little artistic license taken to increase the drama in the movie, but all in all, this is a great, feel-good film. While some may feel the "happy ending" is rather cheesy, I like it because it's done in the style of the old Monkee episodes. The actors portraying the Pre-Fab Four did a terrific job and even resemble the original Monkees, especially Jeff Geddis portraying Mike Nesmith. I loved the Monkees as a kid, but never knew the true story behind the making of the show and why it only lasted for two seasons. This movie will give you an idea. What is worth the price of this DVD are the interviews with three of the Monkees that are included. You can still see the definite personalities of Jones, Tork, and Dolenz in these interviews and get more insight into how each viewed his Monkee experience and what each did once the series was cancelled. The running commentaries by each of these three Monkees are priceless. I watched the film 3 times in a row, and each time the film was different because of the running commentary. Mickey Dolenz is hilarious and zany throughout the entire film; his commentary kept me in stitches. Peter is more introspective, analytical and pragmatic, pointing out inaccuracies in the film. Davy Jones has a lot to say--he comments throughout the entire film, providing insights and interesting personal revelations. Their diverse commentaries and interviews makes for an interesting movie. I highly recommend this DVD for any Monkees fan.

Nearly three years are compressed into this one entertaining and enlightening movie. The feature long commentaries by Davy, Peter and Mickey give you a glimpse at how each viewed these events in their own eyes at the time it happened. The individual interviews (alas... no Mike) are a great way to see how much the guys have changed, yet how much they are still the same lovable musicians we first adored.
I was thrilled as each one commented on how much they approved of the young man playing himself. They added individual insight, but pretty much let the film speak for the history of the group. The concert re-makes are fantastic. The re-makes of Davy's and Mike's screen tests prove just how dedicated these young men were to giving us "The Monkees". Amazing work!
My only regret is that Mike comes off as the bad guy and really doesn't get to defend himself or shed light on the story from his point of view. (His own chioce I'm sure).
You will thoroughly enjoy this and love that it is part of your collection. I do!

Summary: daydream belevers-the monkees story
Review: the actors looked nothing like them, and they left out the part why peter and mike left the group. and why did micky have curly hair through the whole movie when he only had it untill '67?

Summary: They won't get respect from this DVD.
Review: The stories; the history; the fame and self-destruction the Monkees have endured over their career.
Were they manufactured? Yes!
Did they play their own instruments? Damn right!
Do they deserve recognition? Of course.
Unfortunately this DVD does little for getting the respect they so rightly deserve for all they were. I felt like it was some Fan-boy slapping together all the interesting tidbits to impress all the people out there who believe the Monkees were milkeytoast and forgetable.
I can't endorse this biography out of respect for the four parties involved...and maybe the producers should apologize for embarassing them.
