Review: ... you can't always believe the critics. For years, all I heard was how this movie was SO bad. And guess what? It was ... for the critics. But the public? They just LOVED it!! It made TONS of money, and was at the top for awhile. Personally, I thought it was an HUGE improvement over Saturday Night Fever. John Travolta got to show off more of his dancing talent the 2nd time around (WOW!! That guy could dance!!) Watching him today, you'd NEVER think he could do that kind of stuff (He looks more like Marlon Brando today than Tony Manero). I also loved seeing how his character, Tony, ended up putting his money where his mouth is, finally taking that fateful trip to Manhattan to follow his dreams & doing whatever it took to make it happen.
The bottom line? If you like to see broadway shows, are into dance and like the occasional show tune, then you'll like it. If you're not? Fine. But just keep it to yourself, because I sure as hell don't need to hear from you. Broken records that play over & over again never sound that great.

Summary: I love this movie BUT...
Review: ...if you're expecting a sequel resembling anything close to Saturday Night Fever, you're going to be disappointed. The only thing that resembles SNF is John Travolta reprising his role as Tony Manero. I actually saw this BEFORE SNF so when I finally got around to seeing the first, I didn't care for it. I like the theatrical aspect of Staying Alive, the soundtrack is great too and it's altogether a more "mature" Tony than the first but he's still full on Brooklyn. So for you Travolta fans, I think you'll love it...for you hardcore SNF fans, you may want to skip it.

Review: ...This movie rocks. Everybody says the dancing is bad, I think it's great. It's definitly one of Travoltas best roles. He's smart, he's funny and he can dance!!
And besides: The Bees Gees Songs are ..., it's Frank Stallones "Far from over", which makes the film worth seeing. That song has such power. I hear it all the time and I can't get enough of it. All in all a great 80's movie.

Summary: I only have love for this film
Review: All these other reviewers must admit that this film is just maxing out on pure entertainment value. Travolta and compnay are just so awesomely cheese-ariffic and the final dance routine is absolutely the greatest piece of camp ever to make it onto celluloid. I'll take an extra helping oh yeah baby yeah! I love it! Best closing line ever in a movie too.

Summary: STARS FOR CYNTHIA!!!!
Review: Although I tend to agree with most everyone about the storyline, I feel that Cynthia Rhodes, as Jackie, displayed a depth of talent that Stallone and Travolta could only dream of. Her dancing was as hot as the lead's (Finola Hughes) when she helps Travolta prep for the lead. Her singing has emotion and depth, and she displayed great acting ability. (Check out the scene where she walks away from John after he makes a date to meet with her, and then flirts with Finola Hughes as Cynthia walks around the corner. She stops and looks back pensively and without a word shows more emotional range in that look than Travolta does throughout the whole movie.) I agree with the reviewer who wonders why this gorgeous, talented actress has not had more success in the business than she has. Cynthia is the only reason why I watch this movie whenever it comes on.

Summary: Two hours in Purgatory
Review: Awful early-80s dreck. Everything that was wrong with the popular culture of the time is well represented here, with the possible exception of a soundtrack number or two by Kenny Loggins. I like Saturday Night Fever and I'm not a Travolta-hater, but his "acting" here is a God-awful atrocity and the only links to the original picture are the Manero character and the inane "nice girl digs me but I want the snotty princess"(who just happens to have an upper-class British accent) subplot. "SNF" had real magic, but this desiccated, lifeless cash-in is good for bad movie fans and possibly professional dancers only.

Summary: Why did I give this 3 stars?
Review: Because this movie was just terrible. But I know some of you are connoisseurs of the so-bad-it's-good genre. In fact, we all have our favorites of this type (mine is Showgirls), so to all of you lovers of cinematic dreck I present: Staying Alive!This was a legendary sequel misfire. For reasons that will remain a mystery, they took the Tony Manero character completely out of Bay Ridge and put him in one of the worst Broadway musicals in history. Folks-say hello to "Satan's Alley." It seemed to involve no plot and lots of fog. Like Andrew Lloyd Webber without....well without the Andrew Lloyd Webber. We get no follow up on the other Fever characters other than an appearance from a very brief appearance from his Mom at the end. Where are Joey and Double J? Where's his brother Frank the ex-priest? What happened to Tony's relationship with Stephanie and Annette for that matter? Who cares said director Sly Stallone. How about that mean British lady and the dry ice? Isn't that Cynthia Rhodes cute? Cmon, there's sexual tension and sweaty dance numbers and an angry director guy. When I happen to catch Saturday Night Fever these days, I pretend this steaming dump of a movie never occured. But, oh my friends, when I'm in the mood for some nonsensical dancing, ridiculous costumes and eager to chart just where John Travolta's career began to go to hell, then I seek out this little screen gem-not. (I'm just sorry it didn't come with commentary. Wouldn't you love to know what the hell Sly and co were thinking?)

Review: Don't think of this movie as an academy award nominee. Just watch the amazing dance scenes and listen to the fantastic soundtrack. I have watched this movie so many times I have lost count and I rarely watch a movie twice. It's a feel good movie and the music is for romantics.
