Review: "Selena" is one of my favourite movies. I've seen it many times and still find it enjoyable to watch. It is amazing how J-Lo transforms herself into Selena. Her acting is so right on you forget she's playing the role. Edward James Olmos is also wonderful in this film, he plays his part with alot of passion. I love the music in "Selena", and J-Lo is brilliant with her performances, making this important part of the film seem so real. I am so glad they were able to make this film as good as it is, commemorating Selena's life. This movie will make you cry. Also, the footage of Selena in concert at the end was nice to see.

Review: To me Selena was very special but the video didn't capture the Selena I always saw smiling and who's native language is spanish. There might be facts in the video but some changes her aspects and she suddenly becomes Jenifer Lopez. First of all Selena sang perfect spanish and according to the video she didn't know how to speak it "un poquito" Selena(Jenifer) said.
Is good to know they made a movie for her but I think they will never get the real person not even her boyfriend was convincing.

Summary: A tribute to Selena
Review: Selena, though naturally talented, worked very hard and was extremely dedicated to becoming a famous singer. Her family made incredible sacrifices for her, especially her father who had great influence over her career. He truely believed in her potential even before she became famous.

As her story unfolded, it showed her true heart of compassion for the fans, her love of singing and performing, a wonderful romance that developed on the road and of course, a very sad, tragic ending.

Overall, this video ( I saw the video not the DVD) ...was well-done and very realistic... one I would highly recommend.

Summary: Dreaming of Selena
Review: Jennifer Lopez's portrayal of Selena was awe inspiring, I have never felt this way after seeing a fellow chicano woman brutaly murdered. Late at night when all the world is sleeping I stay up and dream of Selena and the amazing life she would have lived, if it had not been stolen from this beautiful amazing woman. I especially enjoyed the music and the portrayal of Selena's gutarist and boyfriend. I corazon this heartwrenching biography.

Summary: Not bad
Review: I felt this biography of the slain tejano singer was pretty good as well as the soundtrack, but overall pretty low budget and fit to have been a made for TV movie. The story follows well through selena's childhood on up to her rise in fame and tragically to her end. Jennifer Lopez acting debut perfomace is excellent and closely resembles the singers likeness on down to the way she fills out those stage outfits. The actors playing Selenas family memebers are mediocre, but what were they thinking when they cast the part of selenas boyfriend, the guy couldnt act to save his own life and he doesn't emote any type of emotion he almost sounded robotic throughout the film, maybe the guy really is that way in real life. Overall its a so-so bio, worth a rental.

Summary: Selena
Review: I loved this film~ and was very touched by Selena as a "person" and as a "star". This is an excellent film, make sure to watch it with a box of Kleenex, you will need it~

Jennifer Lopez does a wonderful job portraying Selena. Such a pity that Jennifer hitched her fame on the loss of someone so beautiful, and so very kind as Selena. A young lady who's talent can never be reached or surpassed by any new star`

I'm very disapointed actually with Jennifer Lopez because her rise to fame came with the fall of a "great talent"~ and IMO~ she has done Selena a great injustice with her work after this film and her vocal career. Jennifer was excellent in this film however she is no "Selena"~

Summary: GREAT MUSIC...GREAT BIOPIC...
Review: This 1997 film, well directed by Gregory Nava, was the film that propelled Jennifer Lopez on to stardom. She is nothing short of sensational in this film. She is Selena!

The film recounts the brief life of Selena Quintanilla Perez (Jennifer Lopez), a life that was built around her father's broken dreams. Her father (Edward James Olmos) had himself had a band in his youth called "Los Dinos". Now a married man with children, his dreams have stalled along the wayside. When he realizes, however, that his young daughter has some musical talent, he builds a band around her, "Selena and Los Dinos", and begins living vicariously through her.

Under the watchful eye of her martinet father, years of forced, musical practices and life on the road follow. Loving, possessive, and controlling, he succeeds in almost losing her, when she marries her guitarist without her father's permission. They reconcile, however, and he places Selena on the path to stardom, a tejano sensation on the cusp of becoming a crossover musical star. Unfortunately, her path crosses that of a fan, Yolanda Saldivar, whom Selena befriends, only to have her be the one who cuts her down in her prime.

Jennifer Lopez is sensational as Selena, big booty and all. She charms. She beguiles. She entertains. She is every inch the star. This has been her best role, and her performance is stellar. She should have won an award for her performance, because she most certainly deserved one for her portrayal of Selena. It is unfortunate that her acting career has been downhill ever since.

Edward James Olmos is perfect as Abraham Quintanilla, the father who pushed his daughter to heights that he had dreamed for himself but had been unable to reach. His performance is powerful and rich. He, too, should have had his award calibre performance acknowledged in some way, as it was close to perfect. Mr. Olmos is a wonderful actor who deserves more recognition than he has gotten, thus far.

All in all, this is an interesting, absorbing film with some great music. No wonder Selena was a hit!
