Summary: The "official" review is a lie-it's great!
Review: I cannot understand how anyone could confuse excellent filmwork with ham-handedness and audacity, unless they were jealous. Center Stage is an excellent movie, and it really hits on some accurate stuff. I started dance when I was 2 1/2, eventually took a break, and returned again my freshman year of high school. I couldn't remember at first why I quit, got back into it, and quit again. I'd forgotten why once more-until I saw this movie. The issues in it are important, and though I think the eating disorder could possibly be interpreted as a little cliche, there was really no other way to bring it up, and it was as subtle as possible. I'm enrolled in film class and the camera work lends certain subconcious elements to the film you wouldn't notice without looking for them. This movie is incredible. If you have a DVD player buy it now; if not, wait until you can afford the VHS.

Summary: A movie you will not forget.......
Review: This movie is about a girl who wants to be a dancer, but falls in love with the lead dancer, she learns not to like people for the skills but for there personalitys. This movie is good for anyone who likes to learn about the strugles and tryomps of sports and friends.

Summary: Terrible Director's Commentary
Review: I love the movie. But this is my first Amazon review, and I was compelled to write it because I HATED the Director's Commentary. Don't buy this DVD for extras. I would have liked some cast interviews, audition tapes, back-backstage scenes of the real choreographer teaching the dancers, etc. Instead you get the Director giving the most boring commentary intent on demonstrating what a theatre insider he is, and constantly starting his uninformative sentences with half a phrase, then pausing for several seconds leaving you hanging, then finishing. I hung on for half the movie hoping to hear something about the casting of talented dancers Amanda Schull and Sascha Radetsky, who were very good actors, or how the non-dancers faked it, or anything interesting at all. Then, I had to give up, turn off the Director's commentary, and just watch the great dance sequences.

Summary: Let's Put on a Show...
Review: Every generation needs their own "Fame." Or is it every generation needs their own Debbie Allen (now that's a frightening thought)? "Center Stage" is a fairly silly backstage melodrama in which an awkward dancer named Jody is thrust into the world of professional ballet in New York City.

Directed by Nicholas Hytner, "Center Stage" includes a few stirring dance sequences and a reasonably attractive cast, but the screenplay by Carol Heikkinen is strictly paint-by-number. The characters themselves seem chosen by committee: there's the bitchy girl, the gay boy, and so forth. Sadly, there's not a single original thought in the entire movie, nor much suspense about that "big competition" in the finale.

The Clearsil cast is comprised largely of professional young dancers who seem to have a great deal of trouble talking, but Peter Gallagher is on hand to glower at them with reasonable finesse. You may want too, as well. At best, this is a perfect rental for your nine year-old niece.

Summary: Centerstage
Review: Centerstage is the best ballet movie I have ever seen. Not only does it have the swan lake type ballet, it moves on to give a harder ballet. Therefore, the styles of ballet shown give viewers a difference in the beautification ballet can give. It is a good movie for all. Brilliant!

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: First thing I have to say is that I'm from Germany. So please excuse if something isn't right. I saw this film 4 times and hopefully I'm gonna see it once more. I have to wait probably until next year until I get on DVD or VHS. This movie really inspired me. I've always loved dancing and now I'm gonna start learning ballett just because of this movie. I love everything about it. It's the best movie ever. I don't know what to say more about this movie because I can't find words that describe my feelings! Just buy it!

Summary: This is defiently a good movie!
Review: I'm not a dancer. not a big ballet fan either.... but after seeing Center Stage I have a full appreciation for this art. This movie takes a look into the backstage lives of ballet dancers and shows the pressures and the peer joys of dancing.... The movie mixs in great dance routines, with a small love story and a bunch of intriguing characters.

Anyhow this movie ROCKED!

Summary: The best movie is ages!
Review: I've seen Fame, Flash Dance, all those dancing movies, and this is the best by far. It has a great cast, great story line and a great soundtrack. Anyone who loves to dance should buy this video!

Summary: An extremley realistic and highly enjoyable film
Review: I don't know if it's because I've been a ballet dancer since the age of three or if it's because this movie was so amazing. You never hear what goes on behind the scenes, the bloody toes, eating disorders, etc. It's not all the glitz and glam it's cracked up to be. This movie portrays the struggle of a young women trying to make it as a professional ballet dancer and along the way encounters a few romantic, and family struggles. Out of the many things that make this movie so great, knowing that the actors are actually the ones dancing is extremley impressive.I highly recomend viewing and purchasing this movie, if not purchasing, at least add it to your "wish-list" !
