Summary: Outstanding Movie, a Christmas Must Have!
Review: This is a great movie for the holiday season, I'm glad I can finally get it on DVD. I've owned it on VHS and Laserdisc now for years. Albert Finney is one of the greatest actors to play this part and to come across as a realistic Scrooge. I would say anyone with good taste would enjoy this movie very much. You can't seem to watch the movie twice without singing almost every song along with the cast. Try it out as soon as you can.

Summary: The Best Christmas Carol EVER!!!
Review: I have nothing at all to say about this film that is negative. No other version of Charles Dicken's classic comes close to this one in quality. The characters are brought out wonderfully. You really feel the poor plite of the Cretchet family. It's a christmas tradition in my family. I can't think of a better way to get into the Spirit of Christmas (the spirit of Christ) than to watch this film. GREAT!!!!

Review: I first caught this movie on channel 9 when i used to live in northern new jersey 10 years ago & fell in love with the acting and music...leave it to the brits to perfect this classic tale!
have had a hard time finding it airing anywhere since and I wonder why every year...I became a big fan of Albert Finney from his superb performance...i would definately buy a compilation of the music on cd if it were available..i bought the vhs version last year but now that the dvd is out, i have to upgrade!

Review: Amaon should be ashamed of the review given for this timeless classic. The reviewer would no doubt find "It's Wonderful Life" trite. I can't trust a person with that veiw point. I find it also telling no name was given with their review.I first saw this movie in 1971. It has held a place in my heart ever since. The following year it was releashed again for Christmas and I pleaded with my husband to see it. He complained but went, "Scrooge" instantly became his favorite Christmas movie. Years later I was able to capture a poor copy on tape from TV. Then finally it was released in VHS. I gave copies to several people. All loved this dear film. I truly believe of all the versions ever done this is the one Mr. Dickens would choose to introduce the Cratchits, Bob and Tiny Tim. To bring to life the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Christmas Yet to Come. Yet best of all, this version to introduce Ebenezer Scrooge. My children grew up singing these songs. The music is moving, funny and delightful. It's more than unforgetable -- it's important. Leslie Bricusse wrote poignantly of the moment Scrooge realizes he's wasted his life, "I'll Begin Again." Ebenezer tells, "My life, my life! I have the chance to change and I will not be the man I was..." He wrote so many wonderful songs, "I like life. Life likes me. Life and I fairly fully agree..." "December the 25th my dears, December the 25th, the dearest day in all the year!" "Happiness is whatever you want it to be." I can't write the words without hearing the music and niether can anyone else who has seen this endearing movie. To all responisble for bringing back this wonderful film, "Thank You Very Much!" I promise the walk back in time, a little more than a hundred years ago to London at Christmas is worth it. You'll sing "A Christmas Carol of all the joy and beauty this Merry Christmas can bring to you!" I promise.

Summary: Inspiring and Timeless
Review: The Amazon Editor who reviewed this movie obviously knows not of what he writes. This movie/musical is a beautiful and timeless adaptation of Charles Dicken's classic. The songs are powerful and the acting is true to the spirit of this tale. My eyes still well up with tears each time I watch this masterpiece. This film has played a part in my family Christmas tradition since I was little. Had Charles Dickens lived to see this film I believe he would have chosen it over all the others to represent his book. Now I hope that the music will be released on CD. "Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!!!" I'm so grateful this is finally on DVD. I can't wait to get my copy. I'm buying one for everybody in my family.

Summary: Delightful Musical
Review: Even if you are not a fan of musicals you should thoroughly enjoy this version of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol". Albert Finney as Scrooge, Alec Guiness as Marley, and the rest the cast are delightful. A very upbeat and emotional movie. The costumes and sets are excellent and the music can't be beat. I saw this at the theater when it was originally released and I was not at all a fan of musicals at that time but I loved this movie. The story closely resembles most other versions, but Finney's acting and the music make this stand out from all the other versions. Well worth a look. The DVD is wonderfully priced and includes Widescreen version, 5.1 Dolby Digital, and closed captioning. The color and sound quality are great and this makes a great addition to any DVD library.

Summary: Scrooge
Review: I can't for the very life of me understand how your editorial writer could be anything less than crazy about this movie. I love it, and generally speaking I don't like musicals. My parents took me to see it when it first came out (I was 8 years old) and I had to sleep with the lights on for a few nights but still loved it, and always try to find it to rent at the video store this time of year, all too often without success. I am delighted to find that it is available now on DVD and can't wait to get my copy.

Review: This is the first time I have seen ALL of this movie! It is a joy to be able to see the whole movie now! I have a video of this movie I got back in the 80's. I compare it to the DVD and I must say, you miss a great deal of this movie watching the pan and scan version. It is so broken and disjointed the P&S way that in parts you can't see who a person is talking to, or what they are talking about. The first scene with the boys singing and Scrooge comes out; one of the boys speaks but you can't see him. In the DVD you can see him and all the other boys as well! In the scene with Scrooge's his newphew, and Bob C, so much is lost, when Bob C agreed with Scrooge's newphew, you could not see everyone expression. In the DVD widescreen you can see everyone. It makes a big different in portraying the scene.
The scene with the ghost of Chrismas past, where they are out side and the children are coming by in the wagons, it is so much clearer on the DVD and you and see Scrooge and the ghost to the side as the wagons past them by.
In the scene when at the party in the past when Scrooge see himself and states "I was a good looking chap". In the P&S you can only see young Scrooge, but in the beautiful widescreen format you can see young and old Scrooge and the ghost! In the scene with Christmas present, at Bob's house when young Tim is singing, instead of the paning back and forth unable to really get a feel of the house, you see the whole family standing listening to Tim and you get a real sense of the love and the warmth of the family. I could go on and on the things that were miss with P&S, the scene at the newphew's, the scene in the future with Tom the hot soup man. The pictue is so clear and you now see the whole movie I wondered what was the deal with Scrooge's house? It was hard to get a good sense of the place with P&S, but it was really run down! What a dump!
There are certain movies that should never be shown in P&S and this is definately one of them! Thank you, thank you, thank you for bring this movie to DVD in it's original theatical format!

Summary: A Family Christmas Classic
Review: We always have this in heavy rotation over the Holidays. It's as classic as having Christmas music playing. Loads of fun and Albert Finney is awesome. Buy it, rent it, or watch it at the very least!
