Summary: GREATEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER !!! DVD PLEASE!
Review: Where is the dvd? Where is the haunting soundtrack on CD!This is not just one of the best christmas movies, or most timeless musicals ever, It's one of the BEST movies of all time- I watch it year round. How can a film that should have been showered with oscars and has almost a cult following from my generation elude the people from paramount???

Summary: Great movie
Review: I agree with the positive sentiments of those who took the time to enter their thoughts on this site. The "official" reviewer misses the point. That just reinforces for us that, even for professional reviewers, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." The songs do not get in the way of the dramatic presentation; the goal of the 1970 production was to present a Musical (where songs are, by the way, the main focus of the dramatic event). That being said, this adaptation of Charles Dicken's classic is something that should be in everyone's holiday library. I have the book from the original presentation and also look forward to seeing the DVD released.

Have a happy holiday season.

Review: This original movie is the best! Albert Finney and Alec Guiness are superb. Nothing can equal this British production of a beloved Dicken's classic. If only they would release this original movie soundtrack on cd!

Summary: Albert Finney deserved an Academy Award for becoming Scrooge
Review: Scrooge w/Albert Finney is by far the greatest rendition of the Dickens classic I have ever seen....kudos to Alistair Sim but Finney is tops in my book....for Christmas sakes the man transformed into Scrooge right before our eyes....the songs are holiday classics....I wish to the almighty that Paramount would please for the love of God release this Holiday favorite on DVD.....a special 2-disc DVD would be great....I don't know if many of you are aware of this but there was a stage theater production of Scrooge on the London stage.....yes it should be revived for Broadway w/Finney if he'll do it or Patrick Stewart would be fine with me.

Summary: I would like to see the DVD too!
Review: This story has always been very special to me. This movie has become a tradition in our household around the holiday season. Having a DVD will only ensure that it will always remain a tradition around Christmas for us. I can only hope that Santa will hear my request!

Summary: A Christmas Carol
Review: Old and cynical as i now am, this film never fails to fill me with the old christmas feeling i used to have as a child. The sparkle of the tinsle, the sugary sweetness of the mince pies, the frosty beauty of the snow, the echos of carolers on the night air and the still icy streets as families laugh round the fire - everything is here - engaging performances from all, with Mr.Finney steeling the show, and such music - the whole thing is nothing less than a pure joy with the enchanting innocense of a begowned choir boy. No family's Christmas should go by without this and a glass of mulled wine.

Summary: Prepare to to be entertained!
Review: OK, so the movie doesn't follow Dicken's written word to the letter. If that's what you're looking for, please go to the library. This version stays true to the bones of the story and I find the musical numbers as enjoying now as I did when I first saw this film over 30 years ago. No, this film isn't like the other classic treatments of the story, they stand on their own merits, but as a well presented, engaging piece of entertainment it is excellent and I look forward to seeing it every year along with all the other versions we've come to love. Check it out, "Thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me!"

Summary: Where's the DVD?????
Review: If there was EVER a musical that deserved the full DVD restoration treatment, it is this masterpiece.

It's not simply a re-telling of "A Christmas Carol". It is a real ghost story of the highest caliber.

I saw it when first released in 1970. I was 11. It just jumped off the screen.

The tape version I have has horrible hiss to it. I'm hoping a DVD restoration removes the hiss.
