Summary: Great
Review: I'm about 12 years old, i love "The Doors" as well as Jim's poetry. But one thing struck me while i was watching the movie. What's this thing with the indians and stuff. I know Manzarek swore he saw Jim dancing with Indians in a concert in Miami. And the think that there was actually an Indian soul living inside Jim's body.GET SERIOUS! I know Jim was great, he was a great songwriter and also a great poet. But i don't believe in this "Indian soul" thing and also in the belief that he's going to be reincarnated as a mojo rising (Whatever that is?) I really love the movie and i think it shows you the complete story of one of the greatest stars who ever lived but that Indian thing was ridiculous!

Summary: The Changeling
Review: I love Oliver Stone's radical film-making,i do,but looking back I feel he got a bit too experimental with this one. Sure,it's a good 'rock-movie'-idea,to take a look at a great 60's band from a more visually mystical & profound sense of view ,ok, but I've always felt that Pamela Courson was portrayed way too straight by Meg Ryan & Morrison portrayed way too debaucherous & crazy in the script ~(which books on "The Doors" indicate as being the opposite of how those two both were)~ even Ray Manzerak mentioned something like this. Val Kilmer makes it slightly convincing facially & in the vocal dept.,but that's where it ends for me. The 1st viewing is the best.

Summary: could have been much better
Review: Oliver Stone, a great director in general, really slacks off in this one! I understand Kilmer as a choice for Morrison but, Meg Ryan as Pam...only in a dream world. All the dates and many facts were either wrong or excluded. Stone even turned to making things up to fill time and help move the story along. All in all a very good story but, not nearly an accurate depiction of Jims' rise and fall

Summary: An entertaining movie!
Review: The first time I watched this movie was at a party. I had no clue who The Doors were, wasn't really paying attention, and never really saw the ending, however something clicked. The next day I went to rent the movie and really sit down and watch it. I never had a thing for Val Kilmer as an actor or really cared about Oliver Stone movies either. But after watching this movie made me fall in love with the Door's music. After buying all their albums and books and reading into the band I found that the movie was not really exact in the band and the life of Jim. And the band members today say they were upset with the movie. However, die hard fan or someone that wants to visit the era in a movie, will enjoy this flick. Watch this movie as entertainment the way Oliver Stone wanted you to see it and not necessarily to get their life story. The movie is filled with some of the best Doors songs there are and can take you back to the era that many people wish never ended. Val Kilmer played an excellent role looking and even voicing Jim. If you are somewhat interested in the band, the era, or slipping away from reality for a couple hours, I highly recommend this movie!

Summary: The Arrow Flies and Falls
Review: Being a huge Doors fan it was entertaining. Oliver Stone did a great job with the scene feel. Val Kilmer did a phenomonal job as Jim, even satisfactorily vocaling some of the live concerts. If you have read some of the books about Jim, ie. No One Here Gets Out Alive, you have noticed they did not show the artist side of him as he was in real life. They show more of the depression and self destruction. Also, Patricia Keneley was two people combined into one character. Even so this is a great film of the rise and fall of James Douglas Morrison.

Summary: Quit the moaning, this is a movie, not a documentary
Review: I like Oliver Stone's movies. I thought 'Natural Born Killers' was just about the best thing ever to light up my lounge room. So, anyone who has seen both it and 'The Doors' will appreciate why I also greatly enjoyed 'The Doors'. The style of the MOVIE is fast and vibrant, from the sun-drenched beginnings of the movie the huge churning concert scenes. I also like the Doors, some of their stuff was trash, I'll give that, but some was pure brilliance, like 'The End'. I haven't read any biographies about any band members so I didn't really understand the context of a few of their songs, 'The End' in particular. But this movie made things that little bit clearer, so for that I thank Stone. However, it must always be appreciated that this is a movie, and unlike documentaries (arguably, of course) it's strenghts lie in its style and pace and visuals. This movie is designed to entertain. Perhaps viewers like The Boogey Man would be best advised to keep this concept in their minds whilst watching. I loved pretty well every shot in this movie, the style, reminicient of 'Natural Born Killers', was brilliantly executed, and of course the music was great. Quit the whining and enjoy the movie for what it is, a movie.

Summary: How do you know you are alive....?
Review: This is one of the greatest films about the greatest band and Jim. I have read many books about the life of the doors and the movie is pretty much online with everything else. No one person can know eactly everything that went on in the Doors life but this movie is excellent. I have listened to there music, read books on them, visited Jim's Grave and have experiecned some of the things Jim had done in his life. The movie was a great reality that Val Kilmer portrayed flawlessly. I encourage every person that has an intrest in the Doors and life back then to purchase this movie. Also I think there is gonna be a new movie out this year from Ray, hopefully it is as a great as this one.

Summary: Oliver's Lies
Review: I think this movie is not good enough for The Doors. They must do a movie better than this and without lies.I don't understand how a person who never read some Jim's poets talk about The Doors.Jim said ''Me and my -ah- mother and father - and a grandmother and a grandfather...''(Dawn's Highway). But in movie you can see just mother, father and sister.I know that is a small mistake but it's not just this error. I had a chance to read a chat of Ray Manzarek and Doors fans (in universal chat).Ray said many many many error about this movie. I think Doors fans must read and believe to the books of Ray or John. But I think Val Kilmer plays cool in this movie.(but I can't know if he play the real Jim,the real Jim's moves)

Sorry for my bad English

Summary: Unreal. Its really about Jim, and not the Doors however.
Review: Along with The Crow, and Fight Club, this film would stand as one of my all time favourites. I have read many a novel on Jim, and own all of his albums, hence I could be a little biased on the actual filming merit of the movie, however to me, it is a striking portrayal of perhaps one of the most chrismatic and interesting artists of history. One of the main themes of the movie, and something that remains unknown to many of the band fans, is that Jim was really a poet (seen by his great spoken album American Prayer), not a rockstar, and this is a contributing factor to his eventual downfall, his need to play the part of a singer. This film can be confrontingly vivid and somewhat shocking, and although it does contain several untruths regarding the events that surrounded Jim, I believe it is an excellent portrayal of his personality. Many would disagree, however few could argue that the those that hate Jim and the Doors with a passion, after seeing this film, would be slightly entrigued about Jim Morrison.

Summary: Ride the snake, to the end of time...
Review: My only friend, the end... this is the most amazing film I've saw.The actors are very excellent and I saw this movie hundreds of time. I'm french and I've this film in original release (in english without subtitles)but there's no widescreen on the vhs, that's unfair! In france, all imported films have automaticaly the widescreen. Val Kilmer was the right man to play Jim morrison. Very good movie! A movie to have at home.
