Summary: This film is too old
Review: I bought it because I was enthusiastic about the musical I saw in different theatres. Now I am looking for the best opportunity to get rid of it and to minimise my net money loss. Do not buy this DVD unless you are aware of the following major drawbacks.
You will be disappointed when you saw the actual musical in a theatre. The movie is not complete and does not include all songs that make the musical so marvellous.
This movie is now 25 years old and not suitable for modern audiences. The casting is horrible from today's perspective. The characters meant to be beautiful are not perceived as beautiful by a modern audience, for example. Do not underestimate this, as it causes confusion and you will not understand the plot at all.
The plot is not as dramatic as required by modern society used to the action of modern movies. This may explain the complaints of other reviewers about the plot as such, that can actually be staged very well.
The originality, some legendary scenes, and the "fame" of the movie in general do not make up these disadvantages.
I look forward to a new modern movie that should be rather close to the original musical and ideally be based on the fabulous cast of London's Aldwych Theatre.

Review: I could watch this movie over and over i jam to the soundtack in the car. If you want a movie to lift your spirts and show you anyone can achieve "FAME" this is it!!!

Summary: Disappointing movie....
Review: I finally got to see this movie for the first time and it was bitterly disappointing! Normally I'm good natured and enjoy just about every movie I see, but this was a terrible movie and I'm glad there wasn't a sequel! I thought it would worth watching because of the dance scenes, but they were all really short and involved no real choreography. The character development and sense of closure wasn't there either. When the movie was over I was mad at myself for having wasted an afternoon watching it. This is not a classic in my book, it's just plain cheesy!

Summary: i sing the body electric....
Review: I first saw Fame probably about 13 years ago, and was earlier a fan of the TV series. The two had some rather significant effects on my life: An extreme desire to see Rocky Horror(film), the motivation to take cello lessons (TV show), and a crush on Bruno the talented loner that lasted well into my high school years (both)! But I think the thing that appealed to me the most was how well it expressed the need to have dreams. The characters had all the angst and excitement of any teenagers anywhere, only they were forced to grow up faster than most, and they had a creative outlet not available in your standard public schooling. I agree that it is not Alan Parker's best work; Ralph's descent into Freddieland gets muddled and drawn out. And I think Parker truly honed the concept of teenagers with talent in the Commitments. But this is a beautifully shot film with characters you want to see fulfill those dreams. The series kept the adrenalin but removed the pathos which helped round out the picture. I miss the film's characters. If only Bruno was still composing, and Montgomery played a jerk of a surgeon on ER, or if Ralph showed up on lawyer shows from time to time, Doris joined the Pink Ladies-hey, wait a minute.....

Summary: fame rocks!!!
Review: i have had the soundtrack since i was in high school (now in college) and every time i hear it it gets better. my sister goes to a school just like that and i'm so jealous. why is this important? because its so realistic. not to mention they did such a good job in every aspect. it was the same music producer for both fame and footlose. irene cara is beautiful and has a voice no one can match. anyone who loves music and talent should go see this movie if they haven't yet.

Review: I haven't seen this whole movie yet but from wut I've seen it looks pretty damn good! I was a dancer for 8 years so that makes me enjoy this movie a lot more! Also just recently for a concert i'm in i'm singing the closing song of this movie "I Sing The Body Electric" and I love that song!

Summary: Love Doris and Ralph
Review: I just recently rewatched this movie and I forgot how wonderful it is. The characters grow within the 4 years they are in school.
I would have to say that my favorite character in this movie is Doris. Maureen Teefy gives an amazing performance as the shy but loveable Doris. At the begining she is unsure of herself and through out the film she gains confidence and finds comfort in the arms of Ralph. The other performances in the movie are just as great. Barry Miller gives a stunning performance as Ralph. And I love seeing Paul Mccrane as the sensitive one. The only complaint I have is that Doris and Ralph do not get back together. Their relationship is the best part of the movie. There has to be some scenes that were cut out in this movie. I wish Maureen Teefy would make more movies. She is one of my favorite actresses. I loved her in Grease 2 also. Thats my 2 cents worth:)If anyone wants to talk about this movie or musicals email me.

Summary: i think fame is a film for all the family and i love it
Review: I think fame is a timeless classic. Id say its a film for everyone to enjoy one for all the family its a great film that gets the rythem pumping through your soul making you wanna just get up and dance i think it promotes peoples minds to go for what they want.Fame deals with many issues such as Coco ,leroy ect but it foccases on many true life dramas i could watch fame anyday and everyday i love it.

Summary: Class Reunion of a Great Film?
Review: I was thrilled to see that Fame was finally coming to DVD. I read the list of extras and couldn't wait to watch. Well, if you're like me, you're expecting current interviews with the actors that played Coco, Leroy, Montogomery and Co. What you get is a tour of the actual school in New York - that the film makers weren't even given permission to use in the film!O.k. kids, but again, not the real deal. Couldn't Warner's track down these people to sit for interviews and reminices like other DVDs (A Christmas Story)? I mean, the old featurette was pretty good, the commentary by Parker is o.k., but where is the original cast? This is one time where I feel truly taken by 'creative' advertising. Shame on you Warners.

Summary: Entertaining, realistic, involving, fun.
Review: In the series of realistic/dark movies about music (like Footloose, Saturday Night Fever). This type of film minimises hollywood gloss, using as many unknown or fresh actors as possible and minimises "I feel a song coming on" moments and other movie-musical cliches. If anything, these movies are closer to movies than musicals. Music is everywhere in Fame, though. Its about dance, theatre, movies and playing instruments - yet instances of any of these are fit into a real-life situation, like kids trying out for a special talent school, or rehersals or performances. For those who aren't really fans of musicals (i am, but i know some people are not), no-one spontaneously bursts into song during Fame. Or when they do it is made seem spontaneous and immensely fun. And fun is the key element in Fame. Like Footloose and Fever, there are definite moments of hard-edged drama, but unlike the other two, there is more than enough fun to be had. You probably like the characters in Fame a lot more than you do in those other two also. The opening audition section very cleverly makes you interested in this quirky cast of characters, and you gladly follow their adventures for the hefty running time thereafter. Well-directed by Parker, Fame is still fun, exciting and involving decades later.
