Summary: Madonna drags it down
Review: It's hard to take a film seriously when an obviously 37 year old actress is playing a fifteen year old in the opening scenes. Despite the vocal training, Madonna's voice is still incapable of carrying many of the songs. It's embarrassing to listen to her fail to hit the high notes. Even more sad considering everything was lipsynched.

Summary: I've seen the movie 11 times
Review: Madonna was no doubt the woman to play Eva Peron. I was so impressed by her performance the soundtrack may me cry. If I didn't play the soundtrack...I didn't know what to expect...and I didn't. No matter how much controversy Madonna has created she is always the one to figure ways to get someone attention and she has mine. Anyway, Alan Parker did great on the scenes from the balcony of the Casa Rosada...and Banderas was great as Che. Madonna has once again made the world her balcony.

Summary: Phenomenal
Review: I despise Madonna, to the point where I will leave the room if she's on TV. So when I learned that she was to play Evita, I vowed never to see the movie. Then the critics started praising her performance, and I decided to go to see it at second run theater. Not only was I thoroughly impressed by her performance, the movie as a whole blew me away. As I left the theater, I turned to my wife, saying "This is one to own". If I could give it 6 stars, I would

Summary: "Bedtime Story" to Sleep Through
Review: Neither the lush musical score nor the top notch directing can save this motion picture from Madonna's lackluster performance. She looks the part however the moment she attempts to sing, I find myself longing for the days when strong voices were dubbed into the musical numbers. Where is Patti LuPone when we need her? If anything, this film exposes the limitations of Madonna's vocal range. A few hand gestures and several costume changes do not an actress make.

Summary: Best Movie I've Ever Seen
Review: I am Madonna's biggest fan EVER, but in this movie, it's very easy to forget it's Madonna. She really got into the part, and she really was Evita. Awesome movie. If you didn't like it, you didn't pay attention.

Summary: Can't get the music out of my head.
Review: I enjoy this film more every time I see it. There is just so much to it. Madonna got shortchanged in the awards department. Antonio was perfectly cast as Che. Lets hope he is offered more roles that showcase his singing talent.

Summary: Superb
Review: Whoever said that this was another one of the critics and Hollywoods fear of the Poerful Woman is right. I am a Madonna fan, I love her pop music. I was thrilled that she was given the chance to play Evita. The role was written for her! And, my Goddess, can Antonio sing! !Ay dios mio! Total Oscar shutout, which was a crying shame, consdiering the film that did win the Oscar that year (The English Patient....zzzzzzzzzzz). I have to admit I do dislike most of Amdrew Lloyd Webber's work. He scored background to Evita, Cats, and some of Phantom all sound the same. But, all in all, a monumental film. Hail to the revival of the musical!!!

Summary: MADONNA SHINES, BANDERAS WELL CASTED.
Review: At first I would like to say though Madonna did not deserve to win the Oscar for Best Actress she did deserve to be nominated for a wonderful portrayal of Evita Peron. Madonna showed she could act, sing, dance and cry and be believable. Not all actors or singers have this talent. The most touching scenes were Madonna last scene of singing "Dont Cry For Me Argentina" to the crowd and her death scene in bed....I forgot I was watching Madonna. For a celebrity of her caliber to make you forget who she is takes real acting, and trust me when I went to see this movie originally I was ready to tear it apart. The first time I saw it I watched it very critically for every mistake, the 2nd time I watched it was to just enjoy its breath taking beauty. Banderas who I have never really liked as a performer was wonderfully casted, and surprised me with his voice. Though not a perfect picture, "Evita" showed it could carry itself quite well, and I am just glad Madonna got some payback for her talent by winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Madonna may be criticized by most of her peers, but she is a very hard worker, with outstanding talent as a music performer and as well as an actor. A perfectionist to say the least. She has worked very hard for where she is at now...and it shows especially in her music and her voice...but she has got the best reward - her daughter. "Evita" is a definite watch, and how this movie did not get nominated for "Best Costume" beats me.
