Summary: Genuine and true to LIFE
Review: This is one of the quinessential singing group movies of all time. It is about the journey of LIFE from the view of 5 guys in a music group. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end. So good to see Harold Nicolas of the famous Nicolas Brothers involved in this project. I've enjoyed Robert Townsend's work since his days with his HBO specials. The music to this movie is terrific also. It really is about the circle of life. Seize the moment. Maxmize relationships. Simply, live and love.

Summary: Five Heartbeat Movie Review
Review: This is one of my all time favorite movies. It reveals the real life joys, struggles, and sorrows experienced by black music artists of the 60's era. This movie is a treat and monument to American music. It can be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and nationalities. The Five Heartbeats tapped into my emotional highway. This movie is a classic. I only wish this movie would have recieved the publicity it deserved while it was playing at a theatre near you. Thank you Mr. Robert Townsend for a job well done!

Summary: The Five Heartbeats-Superb!
Review: This movie was one of the best movies I have ever seen that was based loosely on real life people! I can watch it over and over again. The actors in this movie performed exceptionally.

Robert Townsend was wonderful in choosing the characters for the movie. Leon simply brings his character to life for me. He performs his job so well.

Watch and see for yourself how you will fall in love with the movie.

Summary: Arguably, one of the best musical group films ever.
Review: Superlative and highly underrated. This movie ranks high with movies like Mahogany, Lady Sings the Blues, Bird, and Purple Rain. Just as these movies captured the essence and spirituality of its genre, The Five Heartbeats shows the plight, trials and tribulations of a fictional 60's group with extraordinary humor, compassion and painful realism. It explores several major issues from music business corruption, drug abuse, racism, relationships, greed, narcissism, group dynamics, and the African American male libido. This movie has superb casting, excellent direction and powerful music. I have seen this movie well over a hundred times and it continues to be one of the greatest movies ever produced about a 60's group.

Summary: Great music and characters
Review: A great movie. Micheal Wright was great in his role as the troubled lead singer. Leon also does a great job as the selfish JT. You can see why he does such a good job as David Ruffin in the Temptations TV movie. The choreography was great and the movie moved at a great pace. The only drawback was that some of the lipsynching is a little off. But given how good the rest of the movie is, that drawback doesn't prevent it from being a 5 star movie.
