Summary: brilliant!
Review: We could only wish that every retelling of La Traviata were as delightful as this one. High tragedy blends with all the wit and charm of the movie musical in an impossibly brilliant marriage. A deceptively simple tale, Moulin Rouge begins with a kaleidoscope view of Lurhman's color drenched Monmarte. But at its heart is Satin, a diamond who dazzles in her defiant redefining of "Truth, Freedom, Beauty and Love". The film playfully draws on theatrical convention, reworking classics to create a new Violetta. It disparate elements harmonize in magic unison creating a visual extravaganza that rewards re-viewing.

Summary: To Die For
Review: A strangely unfamiliar approach to a musical is used in the making of Moulin Rouge. At first the disarray presented makes no sense to the viewer but once you get yourself placed in the mind-frame required you are completely submerged into a new and exotic world. A world of dancing and singing comes to life as you delve into a brothel where love blossoms.
Obstacles are overcome and love prevails in this musical creation. It is a performance that will not soon be surpassed by any other production and is by far one of the greatest films of its kind.

Summary: "Weird, But Not In A Good Way"
Review: There's much talk that Luhrmann has created something new with this mishmash, the postmodern musical. Actually, he's a latecomer if such were his intention. The brilliant under-appreciated "Pennies From Heaven," with Bernadette Peters and Steve Martin, either of whom can act and sing circles around Kidman and McGregor, is the film that actually deserves the raves
this tiresome eyesore is now unjustly receiving. A gilded lily, "Moulin Rouge" is proof patent that too much of a good thing can be far, far less than wonderful.

Summary: A dazzling re-invention
Review: Watch this trio of films: Moulin Rouge, Shreck, and Carmen Jones. Each in its own way, is a fantastically creative re-telling of popular stories. Each breaks dazzling visual or musical ground, and milestones the genre in some exciting new way, yet is chock-full of references to ... well, lots of other stuff.

Therein lies both the genius, and the limitation, of such works. If you're familiar with the referenced materials, you'll marvel at how well familiar songs or visuals can be made fresh again. But if you're not, then a movie like Moulin Rouge will be confusing.

Personally, I found Moulin Rouge to be a dazzling film, and the musical genre can never be quite the same hereafter. Director Baz Luhrmamn reinvents pop culture, he very nearly glorifies it with a high-art treatment the likes of which I'd never witnessed before. The only movies that come close, visually, are Rocky Horror Picture Show or maybe Titus. If you will view Moulin Rouge with an open mind, I think you will be truly amazed at what you see.

Summary: Chaotic, crazy, breathtakingly wonderful!
Review: At first I didn't know what to make of this movie, as the first part was just total chaos. But after I while I was totally enthralled, enjoying the music and following the plot line.

Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor were absolutely gorgeous together and the singing and music was just fantastic.

It's truly a unique film. I plan to watch it again.

Summary: Got some dark desire?
Review: This movie is awesome! I am completely and udderly in love with this movie, the songs rock, the cast rocks, the dancing rocks, everything rocks! Baz is a genius, you have to buy this movie!!! Warning though, if you suffer from panic attacks you might want a glass of water to drink with you or a friend to watch with you the first time. The cinematography messes with your mind.

Summary: This was a joke right..
Review: I had the misfortune of seeing this film at my father's house over the holidays, and came away convinced that I had in fact missed nothing by avoiding it's theatrical run.

What might have started out as a novel idea to attract my generation to turn of the 20th century cabaret theater wound up being a self-indulged and haywire production that will leave many viewers with a bad headache. At times, the effects seemed sureal, as if the movie crew was suffering from a collective migrane durring the conception and production of this team.

Even the pairing of Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor (who really do deserve credit for trying to make something out of the story) could not save this vastly overrated production from collapsing in it's own excesses. Considering much of the prepublicity billed the film as a nostalgia period piece, some of the selections such as Elton John (and certainly Nirvana) are truly puzzling.

Summary: what a surprise
Review: Rented this movie over the weekend. I really wasn't interested in seeing it. However, It was my wife's night to choose. This movie was great! I've never seen such a strange and entertaining mix of modern music, period costumes, outrageous performances (John Leguizamo was hillarious ad Tolouse Letrec!) and rapid fire editing.

Overall the film was like grabbing the leash of a very big dog that decides to take you for a run. All you can do is hang on for the ride.

We rented it this weekend, but I'm definately going to buy it today.

Summary: UGH!!!!!
Review: this is one of the worst movies i have ever seen in my whole entire life! It dragged on and on! The best part was when it was over! There a few good parts but not good enough to even rent the movie! It was so stupid and corny everyone was dancing around and singing and in a way it's kind of scary with all the wierd props and actors with wierd make-up! I thought it would be more!

Summary: Um...so-so
Review: 'Moulin Rouge' started out light-hearted and funny. Like the play up stairs from Christians bedroom to the "Spectacular, Spectacular!" song. But then after that it turned into another chick flick, all mushed up with love. So my advice to you is to see it if you want to laugh and then get borded.
