Summary: Ooh. Pretty.
Review: "Moulin Rouge" centers around a limp plot that preys heavily on the typical "star-crossed lovers" scenario/tragedy, plagued by all sorts of weak, filler dialogue. Generally, I despise such uninspired screenplay...but - dang - this movie is such a treat for the eyes. A wild and colorful frenzy that is brimming with visual appeal. Sure, if you stripped away the spangles, the music, and the shake-shake-shake-your-booty choreography, the positive merits of "Moulin Rouge" would fill a mere thimble...so *what*? There's nothing quite like releasing them pesky intellectual apprehensions and treating your senses every once in awhile.

Acting abilities aside, you can tell that Kidman and McGregor (redeeming himself for the first time since that Star Wars catastrophe) had a lot of fun with this movie. Good times for all.

Let me put in this way: I loathe pop music, especially that borne of an Aguilera. Regardless, I immediately purchased the soundtrack after taking my wee sis to see this movie. Even more shocking, I've been known to listen to the "Lady Marmalade" track on occasion; this movie has powers that even I can't begin to comprehend.

Summary: Bringing back "the musical" for critics of today!
Review: When I first saw this movie in the theater, I was awe struck! This movie has everything that a music lover would want plus 10 x's more! The songs for this movie are arranged in the most creative ways...bringng songs from today & yesterday together to describe an incredible love story! It reminds me of a twist between Pretty Woman meets Romeo & Juliet meets the Mtv Music awards!!! It is crazy fun and will definitely keep you entertained through out the movie and a bit disappointed that it has to come to an end. I am glad that I can purchase the DVD since I will be definitely wearing this movie out! Hope you like it too!

Summary: A Different Kind Of Movie Experience
Review: Honestly, I hate to give a review for a movie like this. If I give a good review, it would sound untrue to those who dislike it. Duh!! Therefore, it would be best to say that this movie IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. Those who love it, love it dearly, having given them nostalgia and not surprisingly, a sense of identification with one of the characters. After all, who does not wish to "Fly Away" from all these? Or what person never felt like going on top of a mountain, and belting out loud "How Wonderful Life Is Now You're In The World" (Elton John's "Your Song") as a profession of love? As for those who detest it, the movie comes off as boring, corny, loud, etc., to name a few.

However bad some people think this movie is, I believe that they must still give credit to the earnestness of the acting of the two leads. The performance of Miss Kidman and Mr. MacGregor are to me very good. And of course, it comes as a surprise that they can also sing very well. Contrary to what some people say, the sounds don't hurt the ears at all. The plot is simple and holds no surprises, but who cares? The best way to appreciate this movie is to let it touch you, that's all. Another way to fully appreciate this wonder is to see it in the big screen with DIGITAL SURROUND. The songs must not come flat to the ears of the viewer, but resounding & echo-like.

Summary: A Great Movie
Review: The singing, the visuals, everything about this movie was great. Ewan McGregor is finally in a musical, with a great voice. Kidman's also good in it. As Christian (McGregor) says, "It might feel a little strange at first, but I think that if you're open, then you might enjoy it." The music was masterfully entwined within the story, and produced a great soundtrack. Unfortunately, though, "Come What May" is not up for Oscar consideration because it was written for Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. The DVD, coming out December 18th, is going to be the best in my collection yet. Everyone should go see this movie, and even if you hate it, go see it again because the first time I saw it, I was thinking how they tremendously screwed up what could have been a great drama/musical, but then I saw it again, and it was great!

Summary: A DVD Treasure Trove of Unearthly Delights
Review: "Moulin Rouge!" amazed me at the theater, and now it has truly astounded me on DVD.
This 2-disc "Moulin Rouge!" package is the ultimate for any DVD collector.
Finally, we can watch this amazing film experience with the benefit of a remote control....something I longed for in the theater!
Watching "Moulin Rouge!" and being able to freeze-frame, slow-motion and skip, jump and rewind to all your favorite scenes over and over again adds an extra dimension of viewing pleasure.
This package is absolutely crammed with extra features that will keep you amused for hours.
My favorite is on disc-2 in "The Dance" section. Finally, we can watch the fabulous "Tango Roxanne" routine as it should have been seen....UNEDITED and in its entirety! Truly breathtaking stuff!
There are so many other extra features worthy of mention here, but why should I spoil the fun of exploring and discovering them for yourselves?
There are also 10 Easter Eggs hidden throughout the two discs. One classic is Nicole and Ewan clowning around during a take of "Your Song"....very funny stuff indeed!
Take it from me, you won't be disappointed with this purchase. It will take pride of place in your collection....Come What May!

Summary: The most overrated movie of all-time???
Review: I realize that no one agrees with my point of view when it comes to this film, and that is quite fine with me. This movie might work for a person who has been dulled by viewing MTV 12 hours a day 7 days a week. However, anyone who enjoys great theater has no choice but to squirm though this so-called "musical" (isn't a musical composed of original songs?). The music is dreadful. The arrangements are terrible. Originality... I think not. If this movie is such a groundbreaker why didn't Baz use original music? Instead we are bombarded with the most irritating sequence of recycled garbage that the big screen has ever heard. I believe the "Like a Virgin" scene was my breaking point, though it's hard to isolate the straw. Thank God I was with someone who forced me to watch the rest, because had I not stayed I wouldn't have known with absolute certainly that this was one of the worst 10 movies that I had ever seen. When I saw Romeo and Juliet a few years ago, I remember how dreadful and insulting it was to sit through. I like imagery as much as the next guy, but there is a place for subtlety in this world. Without it the senses cannot be moved. I am not impressed with cinematography for cinematography's sake. How any producer could think that Luhrmann's technique (one similar to the one he used in Romeo and Juliet) was worthy of another dreadful opus is anybody's guess. I heard today that this work is being given consideration for best picture of the year. God please allow this work to pass into obscurity where it belongs.

Summary: Best Film in Decades
Review: Moulin Rouge is hands down one of the most amazing films ever created. Its creativity and sheer energy is unsurpassed by any other film. When I went to see it, I had no idea what I was about to sit through. It began dark and mysterious and opened into a world of music and dance I will never forget. When I heard of the release date for the DVD I reserved four copies right off the bat. You have to see Moulin Rouge to witness this landmark in cinematic history. Thank you Baz for giving our generation this film to cherish for years to come.

Summary: the music overwhelms the story
Review: The movie has incredible performances by the actors, mainly by Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, who sing quite a lot. The pace of the movie is a little bit crazier than Romeo + Juliet, but also very different, even if it is a curtain flick.
the impossible lovy story concept is somewhat simplified by Nicole Kidman's turning point sickness. But it never becomes sad as something unavoidable. It's a lovestory in spite of the fact of the structure where the couple is in trouble but still get to be together in the end, is a happy ending. It's a good movie because it resonates the 20th century of love songs and not only those, but the mile stones of that century music. it unites it in the year of 1900, which i think is symbolic for the 20th century even though it takes place in the 1900, as you can see on the costumes and designs, to add color i guess.
It's also a cheat thing to take the best bits of a few love songs and turn it into something unique but not original. But when it's made you see the original quality of the outline, and the result is simply put entertaining. amazing and somewhat chaotic, but as you sit through it it's settling and sad at one point but reuniting of love hope and life from a century of song,
okay?
