Summary: Stupidest Movie I've Ever Seen
Review: This was the most trite piece of garbage that I have ever watched. I thought it made fun of Heavy Metal much more than it glamorized it. Stupid and embarrassing from beginning to end.
Mark Walburg is so lame!

Summary: Rock Star...Rocks, then Rolls Over into Predictability.
Review: ROCK STAR is a decent but predictable film about a singer in a rock tribute band who is tapped to replace his idol in the actual band when the singer is unceremoniously ousted. The concept is loosley based on a true to life situation with the band Judas Priest. Mark Wahlberg has proven his versatility again and does a great job as Chris Cole, the die hard fan of the fictional band "Metal Dragon", who is recruited by THE band to replace their singer. When "Metal Dragon" and their manager see a tape of his performance in the tribute band, they call him up and fly him to Las Angeles to set up an audition. There is one interesting set up used in the film, and that is when Chris Cole is himself fired as the singer of the tribute band to "Metal Dragon". There are artistic differences as to whether the group should remain as a tribute band (which has become stale to all of the band members)or go beyond to doing original material etc. When he is about to do his audition for "Metal Dragon" he witnesses deja vu as he sees the band fire their lead singer almost in the same fashion right in front of he and his manager/girlfriend played by Jennifer Anniston. The film moves a little too quickly because as soon as he is hired, he is doing press interviews (with an English accent) and is on tour with the band. Then the film follows, in predictable fashion, the rise and fall of the lead singer and his abuse of the usual vices and the temptations of being on the road tours. By all accounts, this is how it should be because that is the story of all metal glam rock bands from the 80's. Again, a good performance by Mark Wahlberg as Chris Cole. His character is likable and has one rooting for the character to succeed (the plot even has the character's parents supporting and rooting for him). The film works for those who loved this era of Rock that had a so many clones, a little originality, a few great songs(memorable and forgettable), lots of hair spray, some cheesy videos, and many casulties. If anyone wants to see the definitive rock film to capture what this film tried to say, see the classic rock/mockumentary THIS IS SPINAL TAP. At least you'll get a good laugh out of it.

Summary: Bottom of the barrel
Review: Not even the talented Mark Wahlberg can make this mess worthwhile. It seems like movies like this are always written by guys who have never been in a band who merely attempt to guess what it must be like. You couldn't find a more cardboard story if you tried. Predictable from beginning to end with dialogue so bad that it's almost fascinating. The cliches are strung together much like a children's "connect the dots" coloring book and the songs only add to the laughfest. Imagine (God forbid!) If Quiet Riot recorded an entire movie soundtrack. There are standard speeches on how "dreams do come true" and "believe in yourself" and "love is more important than fame or fortune". There is one surprisingly good moment in the film however where Mark Wahlberg is in the audience singing louder than the lead singer himself which surprises the entire band. A good moment indeed but otherwise this belongs in the 99 cent pile. A generic title doesn't mislead. At least cornball movies like Flashdance make you want to dance. The 80's hard rock hayday deserves a better treatment than this.

Summary: I might be getting old but this is a great film
Review: I usually find problems with actors of today. There acting is usually sloppy, not thought out, look at me, i'm wonderful kind of attitude but i found this film most refreshing.Actually i enjoyed it totally. It had a wonderful story about values and friendship and love. This movie was an honest attempt to show that the Rock World is just more than sex, drugs and Rock N' Roll and it did it brilliantly.I like Mark Wahlberg very much. Definately very energetic. Jennifer Aniston will always be Jennifer Aniston. Not much substance their but she did fair out in this film. The DVD especially on a THX system is awsome. Actually i like my home THX system better than most theatres i've visited. I say buy this film, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: The best rock 'n' roll movie ever made!
Review: I paid the cheap amount of $2 for this video at a swapmeet and it was just sitting in my room collecting dust. So today, I was bored and just put this in. My dad had told me it was a good movie, so I put it in. I normally don't watch VHS anymore but since this was only 2 dollars, I couldn't resist. I enjoyed this movie very much. There are similarities from this movie and what happened to Judas Priest in '96. Here are the similarities:

ROCK STAR:
The lead vocalist of a cover band is picked to replace the lead singer in his favorite band.
Real Life:
A shop owner is picked to replace the lead singer of Judas Priest.

ROCK STAR:
The lead singer of the rock group is gay
REAL LIFE:
The lead singer of Judas Priest is gay. I have nothing against gays, but that just had to be mentioned as a similarity.

All of the above is true! Anyway, I recommend this movie to anyone who is in a cover (or as Wahlberg says in the movie a "TRIBUTE" band) band or listens to '80s hair metal music like Judas Priest, Ratt, AC/DC, Dio, etc.

Watch this movie right now! Plus Jennifer Aniston is great in this movie.

Summary: AC/DC OUTRAGE!!
Review: As a die-hard AC/DC fan..I was rather stunned by the use of "Are You Ready" during the first few scenes. The tour jackets had the year 1985 on them, which may or may not have been the same year as the piercing scene. Giving the benefit of the doubt, the song wouldn't have been released for ANOTHER 5 YEARS!!!! The rest of the movie was pretty good, except for the ending. You don't just walk off stage. There are contracts and whatnot. Watch the movie once, if you're into the 80's hari bands, buy it.... but it's a bit of a stretch to reality.

Summary: Hair band Artist = a Dud
Review: Mark Wahlberg very seldom gets it right on the Big Screen.I thought He was alright in Boogie Nights but this is a Major Step down.Jennifer Aniston needs to stick to TV because She can't act worth a tick tac for my moneys worth.this film might have been ok back in the 80's but I doubt it.this is one of those films that if you are having a sleepless night it is a solid cure.

Summary: ROCK BOMB
Review: This is another movie on the growing list of Mark Walhberg's terrible movies.
In this one, tough, he is not the one to blame. The blame for this failure is clear at the hand of the screenplay and the director. It's obvius whatever wrote that does not like hard rock / heavy metal, or at least is full of prejudice for both of them. The history is full of cliches (bad ones - some times there good cliches to use in a film - but unfortunately that didn't happen here)and, worst than this, a lot of unbeliavable impossible situations. Examples:
1) The new singer audition for the band (Steel Dragon) in front of the old singer, that simply does not know he is being fired!!
2) The singer (Walhberg) and the guitarrist of his cover band start arguing in the middle of a show, talking normally as if the volume was turned to zero!
3)The singer (Wahlberg) quit upon being a rocker and decide to go "zen", playing accoustic gigs in clubs with twenty people as audience.

Well, enough. THis is just junk.

Summary: Follow your dreams to a new beginning!!
Review: Wow! What a great movie!

"Rock Star" is an excellent examination of life with its many layers. Most of which never go examined by many, perhaps because of a fear that success is just around the corner; and some, as quiet as it is kept are indeed afraid of success. Afterall, with great rewards, come great responsibility.

As one who fully accepts that you are what you desire and act upon, this movie hit the spot. Not only is it about more than music, as alluded to above, it is about life itself. Life in the sense that we all have that secret, and sometimes not so secret, dream that we hold within. More often than not, such a dream goes unrealized.

Perhaps this will be lost on some, then again maybe not, but "live" your life and you will feel me! Defer not your dreams, for they are the very thing that can, will and do guide the ship you call your life.

Summary: Rock Star -- Popkorn Junkie's (and my) review
Review: As you can tell from the previews, "Rock Star" is a movie about a hard core fan who gets to live out his fantasy by replacing the lead singer of his favorite band. Who would have thought that Mark Wahlberg could pull off the role of the main character, a long haired, "devil-sign" gesturing, head banging, rocker? Well he did, even the dubiously cast Jennifer Anniston made a pretty good rocker chick.

So here's the story: Chris Coles (Wahlberg) LOVES the band Steel Dragon and the lead singer Bobby Beers....so much so that Chris dresses like Bobby and even sings in a popular Steel Dragon tribute band. Chris is very talented and can mimic Bobby precisely. Anyway, Bobby leaves the band, Steel Dragon calls up Chris for an audition (they saw a tape of his cover band and were impressed), Chris gets the jig, and now he is living out his fantasy-- to be a rock star.

But Chris got a little more than he bargained for-- he didn't think about all the drugs, booze, and women that came along with the deal. His longtime girlfriend and manager, Emily (Jennifer Aniston), didn't account for all the drug orgies either and eventually she leaves Chris to pursue a career of her own. Emily leaving starts the ball rolling and Chris begins to realize that being a rock star isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Even though "Rock Star" was a typical and fairly predictable rags-to-riches story it was still very enjoyable. It was delightful seeing Mark Wahlberg rock out and scream/sing power ballad lyrics...if he was really singing then I'm doubly impressed. The soundtrack for this movie was incredible-- I had a hard time sitting still and not rocking out in my seat, heehee. I thought the movie had a fairly good message, find your own voice and be true to yourself, and I really enjoyed it.
