Summary: It was okay, but not as good as the book.
Review: It was great, yet not as good as the book. They cut off certain parts of it which made it rather boring. I don't mean to insult anybody, but I'd much rather recommend the book. So sorry to all of those who liked it. Still, for what's it worth, the acting and everything was great.

Summary: Why standard format only??
Review: Yes - a wonderful, timeless movie. But why standard format?? The original widescreen is needed to do this classic justice.

Summary: The reason it's great is because it's timeless
Review: The Wizard of Oz is a true example of a movie that survives 60 years and still amazes and delights. Just about everyone in the world has seen it, and I've never heard of anybody that hated it. The songs are famous and great. The acting is good, too; Judy Garland really projects Dorothy's innocenece and vulneribility, and Margaret Hamilton truly scares you as the Wicked Witch. The special effects are still amazing, even after all that's come along since. The Wizard of Oz appeals to everyone, has since it was released 60 years ago, and doubtless always will.

Summary: This is THE american Fairy Tale
Review: The Wizard of Oz is an American masterpiece. It is THE american Fairy tale. If you have never seen this movie, I suggest you do. You may also want to read the original book by Frank L. Baum.

Summary: Grab the popcorn and Family, sit back and have fun!!!
Review: I was amazed to read a comment from a user in Detroit using the Godfather series for comparison (who missed the point). This is simply a fantasy that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages, even us Big kids. This film was made at a different time, when we didn't need to be shocked, just entertained. That might seem unrealistic for some, but I feel our day to day lives are realistic enough. The DVD is worth it from the aspect of features just not there in VHS like the old rewind, no I don't think the sound is any better, but look when this was made. The best part is that it will last longer and look just as good now when showing it to your kids, as it will in the future when you show it to your grandchildren.

Unlike many of today's films that age fast, this will continue to last. An unlike many films today that when you walk out and wonder if there a black helicopters, aliens, vampires, etc, many of which there directors where or should be one film wonders. This will give you nothing but a good old fashion warm and fuzzy feeling. Everyone in my family has a favorite charater in this film. I would add this to your collection. Like many good clean fun films, you can watch it over and over.

Summary: Great family movie with good family values
Review: This movie has been a yearly tradition in our household since I was a kid when we had to watch the whole movie in black and white. It is now a tradition in my home. My children are 10 & 15 yr old boys and we still enjoy this as a family. Just goes to show you it pays to teach good morals and values to your kids.
