Summary: The other scottish play
Review: I absolutely love Brigadoon!!! I first heard about it when my high school decided to put it on for our spring musical...I auditioned and got a small part in it...I first fell in love with the music, then saw the movie and fell in love with it as well. This movie is one of Kelly's best in my opinion, although Singing in the rain comes in a close 2nd. The story line, choreography, and costumes are amazing. This is truly a masterpiece movie...If you haven't seen this movie yet...BUY IT NOW AND WATCH IT..it is well worth the money and time it takes to watch the movie.

Summary: Brigadoon is "the little musical that could."
Review: I agree with other reviewers that Brigadoon is not as spectacular a musical as Singin' in the Rain or My Fair Lady is; however, there is something magical about Brigadoon. As enchanting as the town of Brigadoon is to Tommy (Gene Kelly), I found the movie to be just as enchanting. Though the songs, for the most part, are not as catchy as those from Singin' in the Rain or My Fair Lady, they have a beauty all on their own. "Brigadoon," "The Heather on the Hill," and "Almost Like Being in Love" are simply lovely. Though I found the dances between Tommy and Fiona (Cyd Charisse) somewhat repetitive, they are nevertheless breathtaking. The dances the townspeople do are quite charming and, I thought, very apropos for the time and setting. The setting itself would have been more glorious had the movie actually been filmed in Scotland; however, the studio sets are pretty and take away very little from the movie itself.

What makes this movie work is the unique and yet timeless story. While watching the movie, you cannot help but ask yourself whether or not you could give up everything you have known-your friends, your family, your job, the world as you know it-for true love. The pairing of Kelly and Charisse also makes Brigadoon work. Though I was not overly impressed with Charisse's cameo performance in Singin' in the Rain, she acts and dances beautifully in Brigadoon and makes a lovely partner for Kelly.

For those of us who are fans of Gene Kelly and/or are hopeless romantics, you will not be disappointed by Brigadoon. However, when watching Brigadoon for the first time, have few expectations and let Brigadoon work its magic. You will be pleasantly surprised by the charm of this movie.

Summary: Simply Charming!
Review: I could watch this movie over and over again, and I have whenever I've rented it! Gene Kelly and pal Van Johnson lose their way on their shooting vacation in the Scottish Highlands and stumble upon Brigadoon, a magical town that only appears for one day every hundred years. In its way, very similar to "Lost Horizon", another story about enchanted fantasy places. Like Ronald Colman in that movie, Gene is not happy with his life back home and finds peace and contentment during his day in Brigadoon, not to mention love with the fetching Cyd Charisse. Van Johnson is like the character of Colman's brother, never seriously entertaining the idea of settling in Brigadoon. And like the petulant Maria in "Lost Horizon", we see an inhabitant of Brigadoon who wishes to leave and see the world outside. The difference between these two characters, though, is that we don't really know why Maria hates Shangri-La; we have pity for the fellow however, since he must see the woman he loves get married that night to another wealthier townsman and has no opportunity to meet anyone else or better his position in society. His decision to escape from Brigadoon opens up the most exciting scene in the movie, when all the townsmen must follow in pursuit to keep him from breaking the enchantment and causing Brigadoon to disappear forever. While there are the usual dance numbers for Gene, I particularly enjoy the highland fling dances of the ensemble, which are genuinely thrilling. By all means, settle yourself down in a comfy chair with some loved ones and take in "Brigadoon"--you won't regret it.

Summary: Beautiful
Review: I first saw this movie some 20 years ago (I'm 29 now) when I was a kid and I loved it. It took quite a lot of time for me to have the chance to see it again, but it hasn't lost its magic. A beautiful film, good songs, great actings and a magical touch. It may not be as good as a musical like Singing in the Rain, My fair lady, 7 brides for 7 brothers or Les Miserables (just to quote some of them), but still is a must see...and there will always be mr. Kelly.

Summary: A very Beautiful film.
Review: I have seen this movie many times, and it's still one of my favorites. "Brigadoon" is a beauiful story, and has some wonderful songs and dances. I would give this film ten stars if I could. Buy it and you wont be disappointed.

Summary: A must have film for any family.
Review: I personally grew up with this movie, and now that I'm on my own, I can't wait to share this with my family when I start one. If you love Kelly, then you must see this movie.

Summary: Brigadoon is out of this world!
Review: I thought that "Brigadoon" is one of Gene Kelly's best films. As you watch "Brigadoon", you will be transformed into another world, both beautiful and mysterious. The scenery and dances are very impressive. "Heather on the Hill", "Go Home With Bonnie Jean", "Almost Like Being In Love", and the wedding dance are all brilliant and breathtaking. This film also shows how true love conquers all, even the spell of Brigadoon. A must-see.

Summary: A most see for any generation!
Review: I was about seven or eight when I first saw this movie, how it made me feel even then, to say the very least. I've spent alot of time between viewings, but when I came accross it a couple years back I remembered every song and every scene from that time some twenty years earlier. It might just be me, but when a movie has the power to do that to you how can it not be anything less then wonderful.

Summary: Good, but has a feeling distance and heaviness.
Review: I'm so in love with Gene Kelly, I'd watch him mow grass. But, in 'Brigadoon' Kelly seems to have something else on his mind during the making of this film and it shows. Many times, his eyes gaze empty into the distance, making you want to wave your hand in front of his face. And in some of the dance sequences, both Kelly and Cyd Charrise (spelling?) are looking down at the ground. Even with all this, the dancing is superlative, as usual, and Charisse provides lots of on-screen sizzle with Kelly. If you missed your high school's production of this musical, see this version.

Summary: Not great musical film, but charming in its own way
Review: I've written several reviews of films over the last couple of days, and they all seem to have not gone through. This is one of them; hopefully it'll go through.

While Brigadoon is certainly not a great musical, it's quite charming. The songs aren't as good as those in later Lerner&Loewe musicals, but some still are pretty good, such as "Go Home With Bonnie Jean", "Almost Like Being in Love", and "The Heather on the Hill". The film does take a while to really get going. And yes, Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse don't give their finest performances here, but are quite fine anyway. They make a good couple, and their romance is believeable. Van Johnson is pretty funny, too. Even though the movie was filmed on sets, not in Scotland like Kelly and Vincente Minnelli wanted, the scenery still looks okay, and besides, lots of movies were fimed on sets back then, anyway. Really, there's just something about this film that's very charming, even if it isn't great cinema.
