Review: This must be the biggest conspiracy of all time. Sorry folks, but this is the biggest BORE-FEST I have ever scene. The plot is cheesy and uninteresting. The acting is old-school ham. The Wizard of OZ is the greatest musical, not this sleeping pill.

Summary: The ultimate American musical
Review: Take one of the greatest songs ever, a host of other superb songs, one of the two most charasmatic singer-actor-dancers ever (Gene Kelly), a gorgeous and superbly talented singer-actress (Debbie Reynolds), one of the great supporting actors and most athletic dancers ever to light up the silver screen (Donald O'Connor), and a humorous and uplifting love story with a hysterical subplot, and what have you got? You guessed it, Singin in the Rain. Yes, the Broadway Melody sequence may drag on just a little too long, but everything else here is sheer perfection, a masterpiece for the ages that will never be dated. Along with Easter Parade, this one gets my vote for the Great American Musical.

Review: In as few words as possible, to respond to reviewers below: In 1952 there were no "widescreen" movies and everything, including SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, was shot in the 1.33:1 ratio that was also used for TV screens. This DVD is not pan and scan, because this is not a widescreen movie. You're not missing anything.

Review: What the reviewer below fails to note is that many older films were not widescreen originally, and that the rectangular shape of today's movies were a reaction to the growing popularity of television... ironic since TVs are now moving towards a rectangular shape because of the current desire to see widescreen movies in fullscreen.

Summary: Singin' in the Rain
Review: One of the greatest,if not the greatest musical ever made. Usually voted on most of the top ten movies ever made. I have the DVD and I watch it over and over again. The story line is fun as it pokes fun of the silent movies ,the songs are wonderful,and the dance numbers are fantastic. This movie should be on every musical lovers video shelf.

Review: The best musical ever and one of the greatest movies ever looks magnificent on DVD. It is presented in its original 1.33:1 full screen transfer and it has never looked better on home video. Just flip to the chapter during the actual "Singin' in the Rain" thanks to it being filmed in 1952 in Technicolor and MGMs great transfer every color stands out and almost looks real. The sound is a fake 5.1 transfer and is almost just a mono put over all channels. It includes the original trailer and a TON of chapter stops. A must buy!

Summary: The Best Movie Musical of All Time
Review: When I first rented this movie, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, come on! A movie made in the 1950s is not the typical movie people watch nowadays- I figured it would look very old. Wrong! This is a spectacular movie, and I mean spectacular! The story is about an acting duo, like Astaire and Rodgers, however, movies did not have sound. However, when the movie industry discovered how to use sound, the girl in the duo has a piercing voice and could not possibly be in a movie with sound. Meanwhile, the man, portrayed by Gene Kelly, meets and falls in love with a rising actress, and she does a voice over for KElly's awful and devious partner. This is by far not the best description of this movie. Anyway, this movie is fantastic, the music is great, the acting is superb, and buying this package is a great idea, because not only can you listen to the soundtrack whenever you feel like it, but since I know you will want to watch this movie more than once, you can own it and watch it when ever you feel compelled to do so.

Review: This movie is wonderful. I recently saw it for the first time and I am hooked. This movie will bring a smile to anyone's face. It is no small wonder that it is a Classic in every sense of the word. I simply cannot say enough good things about it. There is humor, drama, and a soundtrack that is incredible. If you are looking for something do on a rainy day, rent this movie. It will cheer you up in NO time!

Summary: Fun for the family!
Review: A cute, funny story of early Hollywood. The movie is quite entertaining, with legendary song and dance routines by Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. I rented and watched this movie with my 5 and 3 year old girls, and while the story escaped them, they enjoyed the song and dance routines so much they stayed to the end. Definitely worth buying if you're into musicals.As for the DVD: Video transfer is very good, with rich colors and crisp detail. Audio is Dolby Digital, although it seems to only venture out of the center channel during the big musical scenes. Very light on extras - the only thing besides the movie itself is the theatrical trailer.

Review: This musical is wonderful; it's one of my family's favorites. The DVD, however, doesn't do it justice. It is in pan and scan format with poor video transfer. I cast my vote for a proper DVD that this classic film deserves. Criterion?
