Summary: Well Bless My Beautiful Hide!
Review: I rented this movie because I had read a review of it somewhere. I absolutely loved it. Not only is it one of my favorite musicals, it's on my favorite movies list. The first time I watched it, I was listening to "Bless Your Beautiful Hide" I just had to rewind it. I loved it! That and "Goin' Courtin" are my favorites. And I noticed that Gideon is the guy in Peyton Place!

Summary: Best musical of all-time
Review: Yes, I like Singing in the Rain and I like an often forgotten movie musical also starring Gene Kelly called "It's always fair weather", but the best musical doesn't have G. Kelly. It's Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The acting is great, the dancing is great, EVERY song is great, the writing is great, the timing is great--as you can tell I love this movie. I watched it the first time on my parent's couch and thinking not too much of it. As it went further into the movie, I started thinking this is a great movie. After the barnyard sequence, I kept watching with anticipation because I loved the STORY and the musical numbers were propelling the story. By the time they got to the guys singing "I'm a lonesome Polecat" and then 15 minutes or so later, all the girls singing "June Bride" (Come on guys, that's all of OUR favorite scene with all the girls in the room singing/dancing)--don't worry about the ending, this was already my favorite musical. If you haven't seen it, sit down, watch it, and then shake your head and say "How come I never saw this movie before now?"

Summary: Still a great movie, too bad the visual quality is poor
Review: I'm sorry to downgrade this movie, one of my favorites, from 5 stars to 4, but the quality of the DVD is poor. Obviously, the film from which this DVD was made has deteriorated badly over the years - color shifts from frame to frame, lots of little fallouts, and some pretty major film damage. The digital medium gives such a beautiful reproduction of the film that these glitches are painfully obvious. If you can get past them, though, it's still a great family film. The widescreen format makes it all the more awesome of a film than in VHS format. And the sound separation, as another reviewer remarked, makes it a joy to listen to.

Summary: Seven Brides comes alive on dvd
Review: The dvd relase has been restored with amazing stereo sound quality and imoproved picture clarity. The VHS versions ar very poor in comparison, with virtually no stereo separation. If you like this film, you must buy the dvd.

Summary: Musical at its best
Review: I am only 17 years old and I love this movie ! I watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and will never regret it! The actors and actresses are great and the music is foot-stomping! I sing it all the time now! If you ever want to just "get away" put this movie in and you will love it! After you watch it once you will want to rewind it and watch it all over again! My favorite song is Sobbin' Women by Howard Keel! This movie is great for all ages! I would recommend it to anyone!

Summary: As Sassy as can be!
Review: A movie like this was made for Sunday mornings. It's full of catchy songs and great dancing in the grand tradition of musicals. The wide screen format is very nice, and allows for the full spectacle to be seen. This is one of the first musicals to incorporate the music and dancing into the story line, as oppossed to random numbers. The barn raising scene is classic. The DVD itself is very worthy, and includes a "making of" documentary. Great interviews with Julie Newmar (Catwoman) and other cast members.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This film has everything you'd want in a musical: catching songs, dazzling dance numbers, romance and excitement. Be sure you watch the hilarious making-of documentary with Howard Keel as host. Enough fun to watch it over and over again.
Some background information: Every scene in this film was actually shot twice - once in 3:4 format and once the wide-screen version as found on this DVD.

Summary: All-time Classic Favorite!
Review: This is a film you will want to watch again and again. This wide-screen version allows you to see it as it was originally shown in theaters in all of its spendor. So grab your popcorn and settle in for a great motion picture treat. Adam (Howard Keel) brings home his bride (Jane Powell), who thinks she is finally going "to cook for just one man", to a mountain cabin filled with his six younger brothers. The six boys, naive due to lack of education in the finer things of life, are taught by their new "big sister" how to dance and court a girl. Adam read in one of his new wife's two books about the Sabine women who were carried off by the Romans. When he told his brothers about this, they decided to try this method of betrothal for themselves. So they went on a bride roundup. They ended up snowed in for the winter with the girls, but no brides. Somebody forgot to bring the parson! The story is full of fun, frolic, singing and dancing galore. Everyone in the family has a treat in store when they watch "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers."

Summary: Perfect
Review: I'm a great admirer of musical of the 50s and I think "Seven Brides for Seven Broithers" shoud be counted in as one of the best. It features good music, superb dancing and a very good cast. A lot of foolish pseudo-psychological rubbish has been written about the plot (i.e. that it is a mythical dramatization of the entrance of women in an all-male society and stuff like that), but I think that people like it because it is innocent and fresh. A carefree movie for eberybody to enjoy. A perfect musical.

Summary: One of the best muscials you will ever see.
Review: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a musical comedy about seven brothers who go in search for brides, but go about it the wrong way, but they end up getting their brides. You will watch this movie over and over again and still laugh. The dancing is excellent and very energetic. Milly [Jane Powell] is wonderful in this movie. Her dancing and singing is superb. The brothers are funny characters, but the funniest by farthest is Gidion. Julie Newmar has her first acting role in this movie. This is my favorite movie. The song June Bride is lovely. The barn dance is energetic and wonderful to watch. The courting song is funny to watch, and the Sobbin Woman song is great. I just love this movie as a whole.
