Rating: Summary: GOOD MOVIE Review: WHETHER YOU'RE A FAN OF BIG BAND MUSIC OR NOT, YOU'LL ENJOY THIS MOVIE. JIMMY STEWART IS WELL CAST AS GLENN. IT SHOW'S GLENN'S STRUGGLE TO CREATE HIS SOUND AND HAVE IT NOT ONLY ACCEPTED, BUT LOVED AROUND THE WORLD. LIKE BENNY GOODMAN, GLENN ALWAYS HAD A GREAT BAND. THE MUSIC IN THIS MOVIE IS REASON ENOGH TO BUY IT.
Rating: Summary: The Pseudo Glenn Miller Story Review: You'll find this a very entertaining movie especially if you like the old swing bands of the 1930s-40s era. It did win an Academy Award. The story is amusing and entertaining, if not based totally on the facts. The "sound" he's looking for he supposedly discovers when his lead trumpet man busts his lip and Miller re-writes the lead for clairnet. In reality, he had been experimenting with this "sound" ( long before he became famous ) with the first band he put together, but one that went belly up. For the truthful story of his life you need to go to the public library and look under, "Miller, Glenn." But, if you love his music as I do, with Jimmy Stewart's and June Allyson's acting thrown in for good measure, it's a very entertaining movie, if not totally factual.
