Summary: AN ARTISTIC INTERPRETATION...that ROCKS
Review: Of course this is not the run of the mill musical that is sometimes expected, especially throwing the religious factor. This movie takes your mind places and allows you to explore fantasy and reality and compare what you think about each. It feels like a cross between the "last temptation of christ" and "Tommy" with a little of "Hair" and some hair from Bob Fosse. Gotta Love it.

Review: Jesus Christ Superstar is a phenomenal production, with a stellar cast, fantastic music, and thought-provoking lyrics. It is a must see for the religious and non-religious alike. It presents the story of Christ in a more easily digestable way than the Church does. It allows you to see Jesus as a human, rather than just the Son of God. It also does a good job of presenting Judas in a much more sympathetic light. It highlights his confusion and guilt at being forced to betray Christ, thus bringing about the crucifixion; where, if you remember, Christ died for our sins. Truly a fantastic film, you must see it for yourself to appreciate it.

Review: I loved the original recording of Superstar. I loved the stage version that I saw as a teen. This is easily the weakest performance of this show that I'd ever seen. As a composer I can say that, were I Andrew Lloyd Webber, I would disown this travesty. Pity that my rating has to even give it one star

Review: Cuando la pelicula fue exibida no tenia edad para poder entrar a un teatro a verla. Ahora que por fin la vi ... sabia que era lo que es. La musica es muy buena. El sonido no es espectacular pero si es bastante bueno, es de esperarse de una vieja pelicula. La recomiendo para los creyentes y amantes del rock.

Review: This video is an absolute gem. When I saw the movie on release in the cinema I sobbed my heart out. It wasn't just that I knew this story didn't have a happy ending: its themes of love and betrayal, looking for redemption and coping with grave doubt struck a deep chord which stayed with me all my life. The key scenes are extraordinary - the rage in the Temple, Jesus' and Judas's confrontation at the Last Supper, Pilate's bafflement, the turmoil of 'Gethsemane' leading up to the heartrending climax. All the performers play their parts with empathy and verve. I love Ian Gillan, but Ted Neeley is superb as Jesus, his voice managing to convey virility and vulnerability - and the camera loves him. Carl Anderson's portrayal of Judas is both passionate and sympathetic. I was delighted to read that over 20 years later these two actors were still working together - their on-screen chemistry is great. Tim Rices's excellent lyrics, the 60s guitars and the audacious filmic techniques (which could've only been attempted with a straight face in the 70s) combine to make this a powerful portrayal of Christ's final days that will linger with you for a long, long time.

Summary: Excellent Presentation of the World's Best Story, Groovy!!!
Review: I have seen both versions DVD and VHS. The Sound Quality of DVD's is Superior. This version of the psychodelic and rock-music years should be brought back to live. Judas, Mary M., Herodes,and Jesus have great voices. The biggest contribution to mankind and history, is that "JCS" is "The Story" that my children now teenagers are enjoying just as much as I did when I was their age. God Bless the Director and Producers of this beautiful, colorful movie.
