Summary: The Great Musical Makes For An Incredible DVD!
Review: The Magic of DVD technology makes Oliver! an incredible new experience. I've seen Oliver! on TV and video more than a dozen times, but this re-mastered digital verson of a 1960s movie brings the movie back to the way it must have been first seen in theaters--quite possibly even better! The colors are rich, the clarity amazingly sharp, and the letterbox version exposes so many things off to the far sides of the screen that have never been seen since its theatrical premier. The dance numbers are particularly great with the letterbox version, as the pan and scan version cuts off many cast members during the bigger production numbers. This movie is a grand entertainment that will be cherished forever by musical lovers and those with a pashion for Dickens and for the human heart. And now that it is available on DVD, it just got a whole lot better. Truly one of the best experiences I've had at the movies, and with digital TV. It's a dramatic music with tunes that you'll be humming for weeks and characters you'll never forget. The songs complement and move the story forward in almost every sequence; It's extremely well done.

Summary: Coolly Classic
Review: This is a charming, exhilarating, splendid and colorful film suitable for everyone, and I could watch and enjoy it repeatedly. It still holds its own, in my humble opinion. First-rate performances from the major players, and the coolest, cutest, most laid-back gang of "pickpockets" on film make this a outstanding piece of film history. It would be interesting to know some of the "whatever became of" stories -- did any of Fagin's boys appear in any other films? Again, a marvelous movie that leaves a warm glow!

Summary: Five star fun times!
Review: This film is truly fun for the whole family. It has upbeat songs, energetic dancing, and witty dialogue. The first time i watched this movie I found it somewhat long and drawn out, but now I enjoy it to the fullest! Faghin is funny and sly, while Oliver is quiet and uplifting. The Arful Dodger, my favourite character, is both humourous and quick-thinking: the perfect criminal. I recommend you purchase this film: its will keep you and your children entertained for years to come!

Summary: Exceptional
Review: I first saw this movie at the show when I was 11 or 12. I saw it over and over. Those were the days when you could go to the show and stay till the theatre closed. I also had a huge crush on Jack Wild (the Artful Dodger). Now I look at him and think he was a cute enough kid, but where the mad love came from I don't know. There are too many great songs and moments in this movie for me to name just one or two. This one is for the whole family.

Summary: I've considered it as my favourite movie
Review: As it says in the above summary, it's my favourite movie of all time. It motivated me into reading Oliver Twist. My favourite songs are: " Consider Yourself", " Reviewing The Situation" " You've Got To Pick A Pocket" and " Omp Pah Pah" When I first saw this movie on tv around six years ago, Oliver Reed's character scared me. Now he's my favourite villian-along with Dodger of course.

Summary: The Artful Dodger was exceptionally wonderful and charming!
Review: I saw this movie only a month ago, and since then it has positively captured my heart. All the music is incredible (with the exception of 'As Long As He Needs Me') and you'll be humming it for weeks, which isn't nessicerily a bad thing. The cheoreograpy is amazing . The two characters that completely captured my heart, however were Dodger and Fagin, who were both overflowing with charm, personality, and character. Skimming through the novel, I was impressed by how many scenes are taken almost directly from the book, and how perfectly everyone in the movie met the descriptions in the book. My favorite songs are "Be Back Soon", "I'd Do Anything", and "Reviewing the Situation" (especially the reprise). Buyitbuyitbuyit! Everytime you watch it, you'll notice something new.

Summary: better than 2001 and lion in winter?
Review: i have to admit, this is a good movie. In fact, in other years i would have thought it deserved a best picture oscar. However, when compared to the competetion that year, the win seems a bit odd. Nevertheless, the exellent score and singing makethis movie a treat. Sir Carol Reed's direction is also top notch, and the show was masterfully adapted from its stage version. (oom pah pah actually had a point!) Though the big production numbers ("consider yourself" and "who will buy?") are a little long, i would recomend this movie to anyone-who has allready seen 2001 space odessy and Lion in Winter.

Summary: A Touching Video, and a Great Story.
Review: This is a good tape. I've read the book about eight times and have even been in the play. Ron Moody and Jack Wild are great along with Shani Wallis. Mark Lester is a fairly good actor, but it's to bad he apparently couldn't sing, or they wouldn't have had him lipsync to a girl! Anyway, the set, costumes, and choreography is tremendously good and not to mention historically correct. If you like musicals, Charles Dickens, or even action(yes, there is action) then this is a good pick. Have fun!!!

Summary: WOW!!!
Review: Truly, one of the best movies ever made. The acting, singing, and dancing are all terrific. By the way, just a fun fact, the two actors who protrayed Fagin and Dodger were both nominated for Oscars. Pretty impressive>

Summary: OLIVER! - the last great film musical
Review: OLIVER! won 6 Oscars in 1968, including best picture, winning over films like THE GRADUATE. And for my money OLIVER! deserved every one. The movie is the last well crafted musical to be released and succeeds in all areas. Actually a British production with plenty of Hollywood know how behind the scenes (ie John Green, one of the great composer-condutors from Hollywood "golden Age" was on hand to supervise the music). The movie can be a bit over produced at times with some of the musical numbers going on too long, also the harsh realities of Dicken's original story tend to be watered down (purists can watch David Lean's great dramatic version). Mark Lester's performance can be irritating at times (its a female vocalist dubbing his singing voice by the way), but the other great actors never let Lester bog down the movie. Shani Wallis,Olvier Reed, Ken Moody, Jack Wild are all great. Get the Widescreen DVD if you can. Its the ony way to fully enjoy OLIVER!
