Summary: Finally, I can see one of the 4 greatest bands from England.
Review: It's about time. The Stone Roses released only two albums: the incredible "Stone Roses" and the enjoyable "Second Coming". I can't put my finger on why I like the Roses so much. Of course I love John Squire's ethereal, ringing guitar, and the rhythm section of Reni and Gary Mournfield never lets up. Let's put it this way, the Stone Roses are to the Beatles what the Jam are to the Who.

The only fault I can really find with this 2 DVD package is, do we really need 3 versions of "Waterfall" and "I Wanna be Adored"? Hmmm, maybe. Also, the material is all from "Stone Roses". Didn't they do any videos, TV appearances, or concerts in support of "Second Coming"? Probably a marketing decision and we'll see another 2 disc DVD next year. Oh well, put my order in now.

I read reviews of this package on the Amazon UK site and saw that it was routinely slammed for the poor audio and visual quality of the Blackpool concert. Well, all I know is that it looked and sounded pretty good, for a 15 year old concert, on my copy. I don't think the "for true fans only" comments were justified, based on my experience.

High points: Waterfall, She Bangs the Drums, Shoot You Down from the Blackpool concert. Fool's Gold and One Love from the video section. Fool's Gold and I Wanna be Adored from the TV appearances.

If you've never heard or heard of the Stone Roses (why are you reading this, then?) buy this DVD and join the hundreds of thousands of us who have seen the light. If you're a SR fan, what are you waiting for?

Oh, if you didn't pay attention to this review, the 4 bands mentioned in my title are the Roses, the Beatles, the Jam and the Who.

Summary: The Roses Finally on DVD
Review: If you are a fan of the Stone Roses you don't need to be even told just get it. This to be totally honest it is a poor DVD to what it could have been, Silvertone/Zomba Music cashing in on the Roses yet again. It contains a live gig from Black Pool, some early tv performances, videos from the Silvertone days and some very cringe worthy home video footage and interviews.

The remastering is excellent on the videos as the songs have been give a new lease of life, shame they didnt put the whole album on the dvd and remaster it. The gig if you where there would have been incredible but it aint shot the best and Ian sings vocals out of key, none of this matters of course as the stage presence and just the atmosphere make up for the limitations.

For all its faults it still deserves 5 stars as when does a band as unique as the roses come along.
